Ok, don't let the mixed reviews scare you. Plain and simple, if you enjoyed the first game, you are going to love this one.

The only two "complaints" I have so far is the difficulty (easier than dmc) and the menus. The menus don't really effect the game but they look poor (rushed) and are more difficult to navigate than part 1. The fact that I am even thinking about this while playing is not a good thing.
Lets be honest, navigating menus is not why we bought DMC. Its kicking major bootie and this game succeeds greatly. Controling Dante and pulling off impresive combos is easier than ever. I could blast away baddies all day and I would be content. Its that fun. New wall running and flipping moves add to the experience.

It is not an evolutionary step by any means, but more of a continuation of the first. I am just a couple hours in, so I will reserve final judgement until the end.

Unfortunately, I have't had a chance to try a demo of DMC2 yet, and I just don't have the cash to pick it up right now. I've read the reviews that claim they've made it too easy, but I doubt I'll mind. I'm not by any means a hard-core gamer, and I don't mind when they make a game easy for me - I find most "average difficulty" games a bit too difficult as it is!

OK. I finally beat the game and my final verdict is not good.

As I think about my experience with DMC2, only 2 things stand out as positives. The music is very good and the gameplay is very tight. You can literally waste hours just slicing up baddies. Some of the enemy designs are nice too.

Too bad everything else really blows. The levels are not interesting or layed out very well. The menus are rushed. There is basicly no story at all. At some points the characters are talking about things that were never explained. Huh?????
The game is way too easy and dumbed down. You can go through about 90% of the game just by keeping your distance and firing you pistols.
The biggest Sin has to be that Dante's character is totaly off. Its as if he is a different person from the first game.

The bottom line is Capcom really screwed up when they let a first time director handle this game. The first DMC is a Masterpiece IMO. They took an awsome concept and downgraded it.

Dang. That's depressing to hear. I was hoping it would be at least somewhat enjoyable. Guess I'll make that one a rental only.

I'll rent, if only to see more of badass Dante.

As for a story, you don't play these kinds of games to be emotionally challenged. You play them to kill stuff.
