View Full Version : Do you know what Wendy's puts in their Chilli?

I went to lunch with my friend today and that in itself isn't an easy thing. He has very strange eating habbits indeed. He will go to a supermarket and buy packs of lunch meat and eat them before he gets back to the car. Just lunch meat, no bread or anything. One time he had two packs of chicken, two packs of ham, a pack of turkey, and a pack of beef. I ask you, what in the world is beef lunch meat?
But that's not why I summoned you here. Do you know what Wendy's puts in their chilli?
Burned, broken, or dropped hamburger meat that they have ruined. I assume they collect it and save it for each batch of chilli.
Personally chilli disgusts me as I've pointed out here before but this just puts the nail in the casket for me.
No fast food really sounds good to me, but I figured I'd give the Jr. Bacon a try. I get a couple of those and whatever. My friend gets a couple of them and two things of chilli. He begins to break the hamburger and put it in the chilli and includes the bacon as well. I just looked at him in disbelief. When I asked him what he was doing he responded, "Just making my chilli better." So I pose the question about why he bought the hambugers to include in the chilli and he says, "They do it anyway" and explains the entire thing to me.
I can only imagine what Burger King does to their's...
Isn't it funny what fast food chains do to you?

I'm not quite willing to believe that. But then again....

I am inclined to believe him because he has worked in the fast food industry before. Normally I don't give any of his stories an ounce of thought but I figure he should know what he's talking about here. He also worked at Wal-Mart and he knew stuff about how they place worked and was right. Sometimes he knows what he's talking about.
I'm sure someone here works at Wendy's and will lash out at me for letting out their secret or they will defend the place. Now I didn't attack Wendy's like I did Best Buy so we'll see what happens.
And I have never worked there so I could be wrong. I'm not saying it's 100% for sure. So if I'm wrong I'll look foward to someone pointing it out so that I will not live in ignorance about Wendy's chilli for the rest of my life.

No it's true. Some chick that works there was telling me the other day. Yuck. Chilli is gross anyways.

Oh man, you guys are really missing out if the only chilli you've had before was from a fast food restuarant. I make my own chilli all the time and it's always good. It takes quite a bit longer than anything that comes in a can, but you can always be assured of the quality of your own cooking.

But wait, there's more. According to my cousin who worked for Wendy's twice, never eat the chili they make in the morning. They use the hamburgers they couldn't sell he night before. That's how they can start making chili when they open.

 Really?? Ugh, that's the last time I eat chili from there ever again! I think I'm going to be sick...

This is no secret. It's called "chili meat". Lots of places do it. Some places are more sanitary about it then others.

Grat now I'll never eat Chilli again, well at least at a fast-food restraunt. I still eat homemade-chilli. At least I know what's in that.

Now I feel validated.
They even use hamburger meat from what they couldn't sell the night before? Now that's scary.
It makes me wonder what else they do.
I also wonder about Burger King's taco's...

When I saw the thread title this one Wendy's commercial scene popped into my head where a little girl giggles and then says Dave Thomas.

Those stories are total BS. I've worked at Wendy's (also BK and Taco Bell), and the chili comes from a big can, meat and all. While that may not be much better than the "leftover meat" story, it doesn't sound so nasty. I think fast food has enough bad press against it without making stuff up.
I had chili from BK last week, and that is the place that looks like that use leftovers. The patty chunks weren't even chopped up. It was more like they tore regular burgers in half.

If I had leftover hamburger meat, I would make chili. Fast food isn't too healthy anyway, at least here there are some beans involved.
Later.

Dave Thomas died? I didn't know that. Oh well, from now on I'm just sticking to my Mom's chili.

Want hilarity? Want to know what is in Spam? All the parts of the pig they can't use for anything else, including dead pigs lying around the plant. I am dead serious. I know somebody who worked for Hormel in Albert Lea, MN. Spam is bad, and I am not talking just about the email type.

Doesn't really bother me. I don't like chili anyways.

Oh, no. Those are my new grease-free hotdogs.

Yeah, but without the grease, all you can taste is the HOG ANUS.
Heh. THE SIMPSONS does the best hot dog jokes I've ever seen. Like that episode where Lisa wouldn't eat meat, and you saw what hotdogs are composed of.

You know I've never had Spam and I don't think I want to. There's just something about meat you can buy in a can that doesn't need to be kept on ice that makes the dead have second thoughts about consumption.

Taco Bell saves their leftover beans, taco meat, and cheese sauce for use the next day.
They're not supposed to reheat it first thing in the morning; they're supposed to save it and mix it in with the lunchtime beans and meat so that it goes quickly, since bacteria becomes a greater risk in reheated food.
But it's a real big knock if you get a QA inspection in the morning and that stuff hasn't dropped enough in temperature, so at every Taco Bell I ever worked at (ten different stores in under two years) they would always serve it up first thing in the morning.
They don't reuse chicken, and they're not SUPPOSED to reuse steak, but most stores would try to slip the latter one by.
