Hi,

I have been looking into getting hold of some tapes featuring uncut cartoons such as "Coal Black" etc. Having begun my search on this site I thought that I would approach the regular users for some advice.

I live in Scotland - and this is the root of the problem! I was studying for an MPhil in Screen Studies at the University of Glasgow two years ago and had the opportunity to take a class in animation. Throughout this course I was consistently drawn towards the issue of censorship in cartoons and was able to read much about the old WB etc cartoons which are now unseen due to issues such as racism etc. Anyway, I have recently decided to try and find tapes of these shorts and my hunt began with a look at the Censored 11 page on this site.

I would now like to get hold of some of the compilations mentioned at the bottom of the censored 11 page, ie Toons at War, Uncensored Cartoons and Cartoons, Comedies and Bloopers. As you can imagine, these compilations are unavailable in the UK and I was looking for some help with regards to where they can be purchased or if anybody would be able to help with providing dupes. There is no problem with playing NTSC tapes since my VCR handles all formats (NTSC/Secam and of course PAL) but it seems that the sources for these tapes would not be prepared to ship outside the US.

Hopefully somebody can help - any advice or help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. Thanks.

Chris

What's up, MacDoc?

Chris, go to this web site:

www.facets.org

and order The Whole Toon Catalog. They have a very large selection of cartoons for sale, They will have what you are looking for.

If not, you can always arrange to trade with someone here at the TTTP. Hope this info is helpful. :)

Uh....

as I understand it, the reason that Scotland has both the 'Mc' and 'Mac' names is because, originally, one denoted legitimate descendents and the other indicated illegitimate...

(No, I do not remember which is which (and if I did, I wouldn't admit it))

Hell, I'm born and bred Scottish and I don't know what the difference is - but my middle name is McDougall so I may just go and check it out!

--in Norman Maclean's A River Runs Through It, Norms's father is bothered when he hears his son Paul has changed the spelling of their name on his paychecks to a capital L. "It's a terrible thing," he says. "Now somebody will think we're Scottish Lowlanders and not Islanders."
