Eww. I think the only people who might want to see this are people who've never seen it before. This movie reeked. It didn't even feature the trademark skull. The only thing it had in common with the actual Punisher is that his name was Frank Castle, and he kills people.

Ok, so it didn't have the skull.

(The skull motif found it's way onto the knives he used)

THE PUNISHER was made in 1987. Not long after SUPERMAN IV, before BATMAN, before THE FLASH, and long before the whole "faithful to the comics" thing was in. It's an adaption. It is The Punisher, though. No, it didn't have Micro, The Warehouse, the Punisher Van or Jigsaw, but then it was fairly low budget, and let's face it, the Punisher Van was kind of ridiculous when you think about it. THE PUNISHER has a pretty decent story, quite a few good lines, and lots of cool criminal-killing. Dolph doesn't win any Oscars, but he comes across as depressed, angry, and yet cool in a crisis. It's not the best movie ever, but it's fun, and a lot better then people seem to think. The man killed criminals. The villains were the mob and the Yakuza, and they were believeable. They had realistic goals, and attitudes. It was "comic booky" enough to be a decent adaption of the material. I could go on and on, but most people see the fact that Dolph Lundgren didn't do his best impression of Tom Hanks, the fact that the movie Castle was a cop, and the lack of a skull on the chest, and tend to decide not to like it based on those things.

I thought it wasn't too bad, time for a MST2K veiwing.
I think it's funny but not as funny as Dolph's Showdown in Little Tokyo, featuring the late great Bradon Lee.
Ya know it's funny, too also see these actors in the movie and think about what they've done since the film .

Aww. I missed it. From your reviews I take it it's not that good but I still would have at least checked it out if i could have, but I couldn't anyway because I had a ton of work to do and was working all day yesterday. Though I did see in my guide that a movie called THE PUNISHER would be on, but I didn't think it would be about THE Punisher. I guess I should take titles more literally from now on.

Anything that sounds like it's based on a comic book character, is always exactly what it sounds like. Except STARMAN. Don't watch that movie.

This movie is very decent actually and watchable unlike most Marvel movies from the same era. He doesn't wear his skull but its no big deal, I mean the X-Men didn't wear their costumes either. Dolph Lundgren makes a good Punisher, seems to play him as a person who is dead inside and it works. The actual plot is probably the most comic book-y of the three Punisher films. Overall its not a great movie by any means but its a decent action movie if you ever have the time.
