This has probably been asked before but...
Do they ever explain why Miroku just doesn't cut his hand off?

cuz it would suck to just ahve one hand? not to mention it's pretty useful, i wouldnt mind having it.

But cutting it off would be better than letting it eventually kill you. The only explanation I can think of is that he's just hoping he will get to Naraku before that has to be done.

Well, he could get to Naraku before that happens. Also, you can't just lop off your arm when the rip consumes you, since it's not very predictable, and I imagine your body is being sucked inside too fast to cut off your arm while it's happening.

It's also possible that cutting off your arm might just make a wind tunnel on your new nub. Who can say?

Besides, it'd ruin the story.

To this day in the magna, he still has the thing. Having the extra hand has helped him carress Sango's bottom quite a few times, which is a plus. Sango actually agreed to bear Miroku's children ("even 10 or 20") after his hand was healed. Apparently, in the second movie, the air rip vanishes, although I've never seen the movie for myself. Whether this means Miroku finally tried to settle down I don't know, even though he never promised Sango he wouldn't cheat on her (she didn't seem to mind though). (Can't find that movie anywhere.)

That's the main point. Who wants a normal monk to be fighting along side with Inu Yasha. Now a monk with an air rip in his hand, that's something.

If he cut his hand off, who's to say the prayer beads wouldn't fall off? Then the air rip would just suck him in, and he'd be dead anyway. Might as well get some usefulness out of it, if it's gonna kill you in the end.

Other than that, a lecherous monk with one hand would sound too silly, doesn't it???
And besides, Miroku will have a hard time groping someone if he have to put down his staff first everytime he tries to grope Sango.

And this is Miroku we're talking about here...given the choice between groping women or eventually dying, what do you think he's gonna pick?

I know which one I'd pick..... :D [/pervert]

But for one thing, if the curse or the black hole did not grow in size at all.

Yah, but then Miroku wouldn't need an heir so bad if it didn't grow plus you wouldn't feel bad for him. It would be more like "Wow, an air rip in my hand, cool!" :D

Eh, I don't like that reasoning so much. I'm sure it would make things more difficult for him if he had just one arm, but it's really really hard to grope anything when you're dead. :p

I still think the only explanation, at least with the information we've been given so far, is that he's hoping he'll kill Naraku first. Which makes sense, since he's obviously trying to do that.

So that the Air Rip does not suck him inside and all and kill him wich he does not want to happen.

LOL That would SUCK so much. :p But that has some truth in it.... it's not like the air rip is a frostbitten limb, it has obvious magical properties. I can imagine it getting lopped off and stuck on his arm instead. Or worst.... he cuts it off and it goes away but when he finally has kids, it just continues passing on through his family.

True, the curse will actually just go through the generation if Naraku is not destroyed.

So it would be completly usless any way if you were to try to get rid of it.

Conclusion: Cutting his arm off would solve nothing.

And that is that.

Personally I would wait to a very last resort to cutting off my hand!

Besides, if Miroku cuts off his hand and he has children, then they will have to suffer the curse.

I don't think Miroku will be cutting off his hand anytime soon

Well..... in the second movie promo it shows a clip of the air rip disappearing from Miroku's hand. In fact, here's the link: http://animeintro.net/clips/inuyasha-mov2tr1.rm

I don't know, I haven't seen the movie. It just did come out a month ago, but the air rip is supposed to go away when/if they defeat Naraku.

*Blinks in astonishment* That was cool!
Anyway, this is WAY off subject but has the first movie came to America yet? (I can't order stuff over the internet so I'm stuck hunting for stuff)

I haven't heard any news of it coming to America, but in my opinion it will be quite awhile before it does. I'm more interested in the second movie, since the first movie had absolutely nothing to do with Naraku and it was more like a giant episode.

Dang. I had heard rumors about it coming at the end of the year but . . . I guess those were just rumors. Thanks for the info.
