I'm not sure if I got his last name right, but I really enjoy the specials Mitch Hendberg does for Comedy Central.
I don't really have certain favorites, as I just turn on the specials and enjoy them. I'm sure if I did a tad bit of research, though, I could come up with quite the list.

Eddie Izzard. He is the best. Irrelvant and very amusing - ignore his appearance in The Avengers and watch his standup!

i'm going to go with
pablo francisco
lewis black
steven lynch
nick swardson
all did stand up specials on comedy central. well, i guess there is a lot of stand up comedy on comedy central, but these four really stick out in my mind. pablo francisco with his "movie voice over man" impression. lewis black because he constantly goes off and makes it funny. steven lynch, he's one of those singer comedians. most notably known for his song "if i could be a super hero, i'd be justice man". and nick swardson, because he'll always be stronger than grandma. :)

Mostly the greats such as Robert Kline and Jim Carrey, but I like pretty much anybody who has good humor with mild to no fowl-mouths.

Lewis Black - His comedy routine consists of "1. Get on Stage" and "2. LOSE IT." Luckily, he is a GENIUS. I think he's one of the funniest, if not THE funniest, stand-up today.
Mitch Hedberg - It's already good because these are the types of jokes my friends and I tell each other, but his way of sounding perpetually stoned makes it twice as funny.
Stephen Wright - Another comedian where his delivery enhances the jokes. If you've never seen him, Wright speaks in a monotone voice and never breaks character. "I tried to hang myself last night. I used a bungee cord, though...I kept almost dying."
Arj Barker - His stuff for Comedy Central is good, and the animations on his website are fantastic (especially the "Venitian Rowing Machine.") I love his "footslap" routine (there's a video on his website - you MUST WATCH IT,) I'm itching for a reason to use it.
Brian Posehn - You probably know him as the voice of the guy on "3 South," or Jim from "Mission Hill," or the mail guy on "Just Shoot Me," but Posehn is also a really good stand-up comic. I saw his Comedy Central special last Friday night, and he did this bit about how big of a nerd he is, even in his mid-30s. He told a story about when some "jocks" were looking at him funny, and about two decades of pent-up "nerd rage" were released. It's funny because I can relate, who hasn't had a "nerd rage" explosion ("WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?!?! IS IT 'CAUSE I WEAR GLASSES?!")?

Current Comedians(favorites):
Dane Cook (I don't know if any of you saw his comedy central presents special...but the man is hilarious.
Dave Atell....Again just hysterical
Lewis Black.... First saw him the Daily Show and I've Laughed ever since.
Classics:
Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor....there's nothing I can say about these guys that hasn't already been said...They've influenced generations of comics
But my all time favorite comedian is Bill Hicks
I wish he was still around, he'd have a lot to say in these times.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I just HAD to say something on this subject
Faves are:
George Carlin- A classic, practically on everybody's list, with a career in stand-up spanning 4 decades he's still funny, granted, he has lost some of his spark but he still has hillarious rants
Richard Pryor- Again, a classic, you can't say anything bad about him even if he had a drug problem, too bad he can't do stand up anymore but if he was he would be selling out arenas in a heartbeat.
Bill Hicks- Just picked up his CD on the advice of my peers, and was not dissapointed if he had lived he would be like Pryor, selling out arenas, his comedy ages like a fine wine, it gets better with age his greatest skits just come from the fact he is generally pissed off at the government.
I still maintain to this day that the government gave him cancer.
Again sorry to resurect this thread

Lately, my friends have been getting me into the comedy stylings of Dane Cook and Eddie Izzard... one of my friends is supposed to be letting me borrow her copy of Brian Regan's album, too.... (course, she's been saying I could borrow it for a while now, she's a wee bit forgetful ;)) So, I'll probably be adding Brian Regan to the list, too...

Wow. Suprised to see so many people like Greg Proops. I have to admit I've never seen his stand-up, but from his appearances on Tough Crowd, Whose Line, and the worst game show ever, IQ, I think this guy sucks. Not only is he very likely the most pompous ass to have ever lived, he isn't funny. One of the greatest moments in Tough Crowd history was when Greg Giraldo was about to kill this guy for being such an idiot.
My list:
Jim Norton
Dave Attell
Nick DiPaolo
Rich Vos
Greg Giraldo
Lewis Black
Robert Kelly
and Dane Cook, the Inuyasha of the comedy world.

My favorite stand-up comedians are:
Dennis Miller
George Carlin
Richard Pryor
Steve Marmel (okay, he's a writer for a lot of Nickelodeon and CN shows, but I saw him on National Lampoon's Funny Money and Premium Blend with Jim Bruer doing stand-up and the guy has some cruel, yet funny, humor)

Stephen Lynch
Lenny Bruce
Lewis Black
Mitch Hedberg (God rest his soul
Jeff Foxworthy (yes, I am a fan of the "You Might Be A Redneck..." bit)
