View Full Version : Superman Last Son of Krypton to be re-released
According to the fine folks at WWW.DVDTOONS.COM Superman: The Last Son of Krypton will be re-released, on VHS. It is to be released on the same day the other WB Superhero DVDs. Superman was originally supposed to see release on DVD at the same time but the plan was scarped.

Damn. I already have it recorded on VHS, I want it in DVD quality. *SIGH* When will WB learn? What's that? You say never?

Yeah my sentiments exactly. I bought the tape after a full 4 1/2 years of searching but would gladly rebuy it on DVD again. Its nice to know that Superman TAS hasn't been forgotten about but this really should have been released on DVD along with the 2nd voloume of Batman Beyond. Some people will be glad its being reissued, this one has been a rare one since it came out and if the sales do well hopefully we'll see it on DVD in september.

I also hoped it would be released on DVD this year, guess now I'll have to wait a little bit longer. I really liked S:LSOK and I demand DVD quality! :)

The only words I have for the WB people in charge of this decision are words that would result in my prompt and immediate banning from these forums. Instead, I will use some choice words from the show "DINOSAURS":
SMOO!! FLARK!!

Could someone post a link to the article itself, I can't seem to find it on the site. This is just one of those "little" things I want to see before I believe.

Let me ask one question: Am I the only one on the face of the earth to not have a DVD player? Am I the only one who still buys VHS? Am I?

No, my dad still doesn't have a DVD player either, but I think you might be the last 2 :)
If it's money that's holding you back, you can pick up a cheap Apex player for around $50 from Amazon. They're surprisingly good for the price, and they play just about anything you can throw at them. DVD, VCD, SVCD, MP3, etc...

...who only releases things on JUST VHS any more? Isn't it usually the other way around? Here I thought VHS was on the outs and DVD was the "in" thing...why doesn't WB learn?
At least they're re-releasing it in SOME form, though. That video is rather hard to find nowadays.

Wow! A spanking new VHS version of LSOK! Holy crap this is great news! I'm now looking forward to the soundtrack for S:TAS on 8 track. Maybe Legacy can be released on Beta and some audio extras released on a record with a special collectors dust jacket!
Wait, maybe they'll put an episode out on 8 MM film so I can get out the old projector and enjoy 'ol Supes. Oh what fun...
Geez...With great ideas like these I should work for WB's Marketing Department.
Why does this make no sense to me at all?

I'd like to see an exact link to this, too. I went to http://www.dvdtoons.com and found nothing on this. I'd like to have some source on this before I talk to some of the WBHV people.

Don't worry Reed - I'm sure this won't be the last time the WB decides to mess over all of the Superman fans awaiting a DVD release of their favorite animated hero.

Q: I'm a huge fan of Superman, and I keep hearing rumors about a DVD being released this April along with the rest of the other superhero DVDs, but on your report there is no listing for any Superman DVD except for JL. Are the rumors true?
A: Superman is listed on our most requested page, but because the following is not posted, here is what we know as of now: There is no Superman: TAS DVD planned for April 22, 2003. The only thing we know that WB is doing is re-releasing "The Last Son of Krypton" on VHS with a lower MSRP ($9.99) on the same date.
We are assuming that this year WB is planning to release two batches of superhero DVDs, and Superman could be in the 2nd batch, but as of right now that is only a rumor and our speculation.
For those who doubt my news reporting ability :p
You have words with the WBHV department Jim. Ask if a petetion would help.

Here it goes again, the brains behind WBHV shafts us, and we bend over and take it...
When will they understand that their DC Animated videos deserves, more than anything, to be archived on DVD. Their animated shows have recieved respect by both long time fans and newbie fans and has stayed dedicated to pleasing the comic book community. Didn't B:TAS win Golden Globe awards somewhere in the past???
To add insult to injury, they release Supes: LSOK on VHS?!?!?! Is it me or are they working backwards here??? BTAS/Supes/JL are shows not just for kids but for fans of all ages. Maybe WB has this weird notion that kids have an easier time playing VHS's rather than DVD's???
I don't think WB will ever get a clue. If they haven't made it yet, I don't think they'll ever make them. And at the rate they're going (5 episodes every April), we'll all be too old and gray to remember what Batman and Superman was.

This makes absolutely no sense. Why doesn't WB release a DVD version of TLSOK as well? Oh yeah, I know why: Because the lazy suits at WB are bent on making fans suffer. WHEN is WB going to get their act together and JUST RELEASE SOME STAS ON DVD???????
See ya!

I think we may be reading too much into the DVDtoons.com post. All it says is that WBHV plans to re-release LSOK in April. This is referring specifically to the VHS release that they already produced years ago and then took out of print, and it sounds like they're simply making it available again. This is a much more trivial decision than making a whole new DVD release of LSOK. It's not as if they decided to release something new, on VHS only. It could just be that they wanted to put LSOK back in circulation, and the April release date makes sense given the new DVDs being released at that time.
It'd be quite nice if LSOK were released on DVD in April, but I don't view this as WB screwing over the fans by releasing LSOK on VHS only. They clearly are aware of the market for BTAS/STAS/JL/BB on DVD given that they are releasing so many other related DVDs. This seems more like "no news," rather than "bad news."

I really hope the VHS isn't to test sales because most fans have either bought the original release, or taped it by now...In all honesty, I don't think fans would buy another copy..and if it were a testing base, low sales means NO dvd (possibly). The ironic thing is, that's what the fans want..
Also, I don't mean to be pest, but Jim if you talk to the Warner people about this(if you do), when it's most convient for you, could you shed some light for us.....please? :D

This is odd. The main reason movies and such are usually re-released is to make them available on the DVD format. I can’t understand why WB wouldn’t do the same.

funny thing, the only recording i have of "The Last Son..." is the original WB Sunday Night Broadcast Premiere hosted by Nick Freno, Licensed Teacher. Needless to say, I need to upgrade. Tracking is horrible. I welcome the vhs, since i didn't buy it when it first came out.
