The theme appeared to be Hell, hellish places, and devils.

* Devil's Feud Cake. A cheater cartoon that gets a bit of flak here, although I rather like it. Especially the ending, with Sam in a red horned suit all ready to sign up.
*Wholly Smoke. I swear it's edited even more stringently than before. And colorized badly (note the yolk in Porky's face from the smoke bird is pink!) Though note that a particular word used for cheap cigarettes in the short might be offensive to the homosexual community....
*Three Little Bops. One of Frelengs' best. Stan Freberg did the vocals on the song...did he also do the Wolf and the Pigs, or was that Blanc/another artist?
* Ducking the Devil. I believe this is the first and only time Daffy and Taz did a short together. Daffy singing until he loses his voice is painfully reminiscent of me when I babysit my niece. "I may be a coward...but I'm a greeeeeeeeedy little coward!"
*Satan's Waitin'. Of course it's only natural that cat Hell has dogs in it...conversely dog Hell must be populated by cats. High point is the crooks blasting the safe where Sylvester is hiding. Note one of them is called Mugsy, although it isn't the big dumb one who hangs out with Rocky and sounds an awful lot like Bugs. "Now he tells me!"
*Book Revue. The high point of the short is, of course, Daffy's imitation of Danny Kaye ("so round...so firm...so fully-packed...so easy on the draw.") Presumably those are all titles of real books...though McKimson couldn't resist altering "the pied Piper" to "The Pie-Eyed Piper". Hopefully none of the authors minded their books used in such a manner and no one cried 'lawsuit'. "Frankie!" Why did they wheel him in sitting in a wheelchair, I wonder?

Yeah, I don't think it's as bad as people say, I can name several worse Bugs Bunny cartoons, at least it has clips from good cartoons in it.

I think this is a very successful cartoon, Daffy is greedy, but that isn't really the focus of the whole cartoon. It's good to see Daffy win in this cartoon. "Taz-Mania" copied the story.

I'll bet Book Revue was edited because of the Uncle Tom scene.

The 30-minute version of "Devil's Fued Cake," done in 1961 for "The Bugs Bunny Show" is excellent, improving on Freleng's original take on the plot from "Satan's Watin'", which was redone again by Friz for "The Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie."

Having Franklyn and Stalling doing the music instead of Lava also is a big plus. Too bad Warners doesn't seem to have any interest in restoring the original "Bugs Bunny Show" for Cartoon Network.

I haven't seen " Wholly Smoke " in 4 years due to the fact that I keep missing it. What is the word that homosexuals would find offensive?

I think it’s “Fags.” Isn’t that what English people call cigars?

Also, I love the Three Stooges reference in that cartoon (WHOLLY SMOKES), even though the redraw-ers colored Larry's hair WHITE!

Yes it was...but it was left in tact in the Bob Clampett show.

I recently wrote something about that in an editorial...please check out the link below for what I said.looneyviews.100megsfree4.com/editorials/unmerrie.htm (http://looneyviews.100megsfree4.com/editorials/unmerrie.htm)

I did not even pay attention to that!

I have the 1990 colorized print, and there are differences between the two. The edit of Cab Calloway remains the same, but in the 1967 colorized print, they leave out a scene where Porky is tied to a campfire and cigarettes are circling him, acting as Indians. So, the editing in the new print is not as much, although any editing is a disgrace in my opinion.
