I've seen Castle of Cagliostro which is one of my favorite films, so my question is:
Why does the series suck so much? Just my opinion, but it is VERY weak compared to the film.
Did Hayo Miyazaki really direct this, or what? :moon2:

The TV series and the Caligostro movie are ridiculously different. From what people have said, the Caligostro movie really screwed up the character's personalities and it didn't have the same nature as the TV show. A good movie, but not a great one.
I'm not sure why you think the TV series is weak. I think it's great, regardless of when it was made.

Miyazaki only worked on Season 1. This is Season 2.

No, Miyazaki didn't direct this series. If you think it sucks, that just shows that you don't care much for Lupin, because the series is pretty much classic Lupin action. Of course the production values are not as great as the movies, and the stories are rather simpler, but that's to be expected with a TV show.
As for Cagliosotro, it's a good movie but it's not really a "Lupin" movie. It's far too subdued and wholesome. Lupin adventures should be completely wild and not a little risque, as they are in most of his film and TV exploits. If you want to see a real Lupin movie I'd recommend the classic Mystery of Mamo (1978), or more recently Tokyo Crisis (1998) or Episode Zero (2002).

I'm not sure why any of you think it's wrong for me to love Catle of Cagliostro, which in my opinion WAS a lot of fun/adventure, without the quick and uninteresting storylines given to the characters in this second season. I like Lupin, from that film, but in this series he's honestly quite annyoing and immature.
Maybe the first season is good, so hopefully they will get that, but I dont have much interest in this one.

I first got into Lupin from Manga's Cagliostro dub. I loved it then, and I love it now. But it also got me crazy into Lupin. I quickly snatched up the rest of the movies available in the US, a ton of fansubs, and even one of Maurice LeBlanc original books. I still enjoy the series, and I personally find the second TV show to be a hoot. But the transition from Cagliostro to the standard Lupin fare was a bit jarring at first, and I think it helps to get your feet wet if your going from one to the next. Try the movies Plot of the Fuma Clan (you can probably buy this on half.com cheap) or Die! Nostradamus (available fansubbed, may also be coming out from Funi soon). Then check out some of the other movies before trying the series again. Once you really get a feel for the characters, Cagliostro won't seem that different anymore.

No one is saying you're wrong. But the Lupin in the Castle of Cagliostro is not portrayed the same as he is in the majority of the Lupin cannon.
Lupin in TV and other movies is very lecherous. And he does not do things to aid others, unless it is a secondary bonus part of some plan.
Lupin, Goemon, and Jigen are all in it for one reason: wealth. Fujiko uses lupin for information, and for a quickie when they meet.
Cagliostro Lupin is idealistic, which doesn't carry over to older movies, or series.

Nothing is wrong with liking Cagliostro. By itself, it's a great movie. I was just saying that you shouldn't take it as an definitive representation of Lupin and company, because they are not really in character in the film. Lupin as portrayed in the 2nd TV series is much more accurate.
