BATMAN: GOTHAM ADVENTURES #42
http://comics.toonzone.net/bga/covers/t-42.jpg (http://comics.toonzone.net/bga/covers/42.jpg)
Written by Scott Peterson; art by Craig Rousseau and Dan Davis; cover by Bob Smith and Terry Beatty
In stores September 5. It's a hot time in Gotham, as buildings mysteriously explode in flames all over town. It's up to Batman and Robin to put out the inferno in "Tuesday Night," featuring crackling good guest pencils by BATMAN BEYOND's Craig Rousseau!

I thought the art was pretty good. But the story...

I didn't care for the art OR the story in this one. Robin's head looks freakishly deformed in almost every panel he appears in! Ugh! Terrible, terrible.

So so... The art wasn't bad but the very angular bodies bugged me at times. As for the story, it was signed Peterson. No need to say more.

I had a dream the creative team for the book switched to Tim Levins (writer) and Craig Rosseau (artist). This would be a good change. The issue seems to be on par with the rest of the recent titles. Dissapointing.

*Shudder* Rosseau as the new artist?? Sounds more like a nightmare to me!

Why do so many people have a problem with Rosseau's art? To be honest, I prefer him over Levins, no offense to him. Craig's look to the characters feels a lot more like it should. I'll pick this issue up tomorrow, so I'll chime in with my thoughts then. Good creative team choice, DG...

Well, I can only speak for myself here, but there are several things about his art that I think are just horrible. He always makes the characters' heads look lumpy and misshapen, their heads are often out of proportion to thier bodies, often their limbs are out of proportion with their bodies. I look at his versions of the characters, and they often look to me like the little green army men I used to have after I'd melted them with my magnifying glass. Levins is much more consitent with the proportions, and his character heads don't look lumpy.

Levin's art may be more proportionally consistent, but it doesn't have the look that the TV show characters have. Craig's look more like the show and his style is what I've modelled my own drawings after... JMHO, I don't want to sound like I'm being critical or anything...

Just a piece of advice. I don't think you should model your drawings after a style that's already modelled after somebody else's style. If you wanna get the Bruce Timm animated style, the only artist you must learn from is Bruce Timm. All other artists have their own interpretations of the style. And besides, none of them can override BT. In his own style, he's bound to top them all!

No one can be Bruce Timm except Bruce Timm. But look at Mike Parobeck who made these characters his own. Some of his designs even spilled over to the animated shows. Rousseau I think would be a good pick. He just has to do some tweaking and he's got it. I like Levin's work but I'm just finding it more and more standard and slipping away from the style I'm used to, and like.

Okay, I fianlly got B:GA 42 today and I loved it. The art is awesome, and the story is better than I had thought it would be. Though I do wish this would have been a story with Firefly, it was still pretty good, a lot better than ish 41. They need to get Rousseau on this book more often. I can't wait to see his JL issues...

I agree with both asessements on Levin's and Rousseau's art. Levins is more consistant and more proportional (his characters have actual knees and no just points), but it strays quite a bit from the animated version. I really dispise how he was comapred to Parobec (sorry if I misspelled). Parobec was able to properly interpret and understand Timm's style, whereas Levins mangles it. I think Darwin Cooke has a much better grasp of the style, and Templeton (the God!) has it mastered! Bring them to B: GA and let them do some work. Roussea tries, but his figures are inconsistent and sometimes plain ugly (like Levin's Barabara Gordon face).
For the past three years (God, hs it been that long), all of the letters in the colomn of B: GA have been gushingly positive. I wish Peterson and Levins would come out of the dark and realize that their work just isn't good enough for me or many others. I don't know where they find those letters! I pray that Templeton returns to write, and Darwin, Rick Burchett, Aluir Amancio and Mike Manely do the art. Occasionally, let Bob Smith handly an issue. LISTEN TO US, PLEASE BEFORE YOU KILL OUR BOOK:(

Well Cooke has been working on the different shows for years so no wonder he understands the style so well. And further, you can't just bring people to the book when they don't actualy wanna join the crew! For instance, Templeton left it because he had other projects in mind and wanted to move on.

i just read this and it was TERRIBLE!!!!! It was without a doubt the worst issue yet. The story just sucked! I hope that Harley Quinn and Two-Face bring this comic back!
