Here goes (this list does not include the Pixar films - only Disney animation studios films):
10) Little Mermaid - one of the animated hits that helped the Mouse House restore it's dominance and become the king of animation during the late 80's and early 90's.
9) Pocahontas - always enjoyed this film because of the range of colours that helped establish the atmospere of the film. While many don't like this film I always thought that it was one of the more enjoyable ones.
8) Mulan - another strong animated film from the Mouse House made the story of a young woman who joined the males only military thouroughly fun and exciting.
7) Beauty and the Beast - this film incorporates everything that an animated film is expected to have - romance, humour, action and heart. The cast of this film really brought the story to life and the animators on this film demonstrated such amazing talent that the world was forced to sit up and recognize they were in the presence of greatness with this film.
6) Aladdin - full of action this film will always be one of the stronger efforts from the Mouse House. The film not only proved to be successful in the box office but also spurned two fairly good sequels and an animated series.
5) Lion King - classic. The coming of age story of Sinba is one of the best around and easily made over a $100 million at the box office. Looking forward to the platinum release for this film.
Now for the last four - where I'm likely to find any  and  expressions......
4 & 3) Atlantis and Treasure Planet - these two are interchangable for me as they both exhibit the animated adventure films that Disney has only recently produced. Both films were increbible visually (with TP being slightly better than Atlantis in this regard) and both were incredibly entertaining. These two movies represent two movies that should have done far better at the box office than they did but never found the audience they should have. Looking forward to the TP DVD so that I can watch it numerous times......much like I have with Atlantis.
2) Tarzan - this film is part of the reason I became such an immense fan of animation once again. Seeing this film in theatres I was completely drawn into the animated world of Tarzan and loved witnessing his every struggle. Not only was the animation top notch but the story was sound.
1) Lilo and Stitch - while one of the newest Disney films I would have to say that it's also one of the best. Not only did it introduce one of the coolest looking characters in the Disney universe but the story of Lilo and Stitch was truly touching. Not only did we see Stitch find a way to adapt to earth and find a family but we saw Lilo finally complete her own family - in essence they both needed each other to accomplish what they were looking for. This is also one of the few Disney films that didn't offer the battle of good vs evil and no one was ever truly in either camp - they were characters that had flaws but never dipped into the realm of being solely evil or solely good. Easily one of Disney's best efforts ever.

Jodi Benson truly made TLM a wonderful movie with her singing, totally filled with emotion. I've seen that movie more times then any living human being should watch any movie. :)

1. 101 Dalmations-- I can't believe more people don't like this. It's easily the coolest Disney movie out there. It's got a jazzy-cool soundtrack, and the hand-drawn Bill Peet-inspired art style is groovy and freshly unsophisticated. It's also got the last _true_ Disney caricature in Cruella DeVille.
2. Dumbo--Pink Elephants, man. Pink Elephants.
3. Peter Pan--I always thought Tinkerbell was sexy as hell.

I listed Dumbo and 101 Dalmations, a pre 1990 film, which you hated. I think it's underrated. The soundtrack is surprisingly hip if you listen to it now (Cowboy Bebop-like jazz soundtrack? Yes, it is). The designs lack that thin-line "professional-looking" crap that bigger budget Disney cartoons had, and the backgrounds were aggressively original in design. None of this "visual depth" stuff, it was appealingly two dimensional. Hand-drawn, pen-drawn, scratchy, dirty lines and all. I LOVE IT! IT LOOKS LIKE AN INDIE ANIMATED FILM!
And there is only one song! Which lasts only a minute! And it makes sense for him to sing it within the script!

I'll assume you are talking about 101 Dalmations and not Dumbo. Dumbo is another great one that I almost put in my 10 best. As for Dalmations, I suppose it's not really awful, but I just didn't think it was particularly good. The animation quality is suspect, there is no substantial conflict in the story (unlike the heartwrenching Dumbo), and for me the film just kind of chokes on its excessive cuteness. I'll give it props for only having one song though.

101 Dalmations isn't cute. At least not compared to other Disney films. Yeah, the animation isn't great...but you know what? I don't care, because the script is better than most bigger budget Disneys, and it isn't the yawnfest that Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty were, nor is it schmaltzy unoriginal fairy-tale fare like Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas. It was witty, it was funny, and most of all, it was actually cool. It didn't have this overdramatic crap that Disney's pretentious scriptwriters always cobble up, it was just a lighthearted script about a bunch of dawgs and a very uniquely designed villain. The soundtrack is more Pink Panther and Cowboy Bebop than overbearing Disney "symphony orchestra," and it's an urban setting. I don't particularly care for Disney's "bouncy and amoeba" animation style, so the stiffer, sketchier animation of 101 Dalmations is a nice change of pace. And...I don't think any Disney film before or after it was quite as different in visual style. It looked like the character designer actually had control over the final look of the characters, unlike other Disney films, which are cleaned up and "finished" by 30 other animators so that the final product barely resemble the original character designs,
I guess in the end, I liked it because it doesn't feel like a Disney film at all. It was like an independent animated film. Like I said, 101 Dalmations is the only Disney film where it looked like they got 5 or 6 artists together on a limited budget and went wild with the art style.
As for Dumbo, I did watch it recently, and I wouldn't particularly call it as heartwrenching as I remembered as a kid. Everything is all right by the end, and nobody really died. However, I loved it because it's got...pink elephants! :D

Well maybe I'll have to watch Dalmations again.
Dumbo not heartwrenching? That scene where he says goodbye to his mother, reaching out to grab her trunk through the bars of the cell? Not heartwrenching? I suppose you didn't get choked up by Bambi either.

I dunno. It's not like they shot his mother or anything. Sure, they were being separated, but the scene did seem somewhat overblown by today's standards--if she didn't die, you just knew that somehow they were going to reunited again. That would be tantamount to Belle getting separated from her father by today's standards--dramatic, but not tearful.
As for Bambi, that was pretty sad. I didn't get that choked up, because I didn't know her that well.
However, Old Yeller is still the biggest Disney tearjerker I've ever seen. Now there's a movie where you got to know the dog before he died in the end, and the death wasn't pretty, and was cruelly ironic. I know it isn't animated, but I just had to say it.
At any rate, a Disney movie doesn't have to "move" me to make me like it. I just want it to be fresh and original, whether it's a light and fluffy comedy or a melodrama.
My grading system differs from other people's. I go for originality and entertainment value--I might give a less dramatic but witty script better marks than something that's more "serious." It's a tough line, but I want a movie to have character and style, not just be a faceless Disney film designed to manufacture emotions.
So my criteria may be different from yours. It's opinion, I guess.

I'd like to put my cents in on the discution about Dumbo and Bambi.
I think that the scene in Dumbo when he goes to see his mother is extermly upsetting. They both cant really see each other and all they can do to express their love for one another is through touch. Then you get all those shots of the mother animal's with their babies and you cant help but feeling that if you were in that situation you'd be a mess.
In Bambi when his mother is shot it's very fast and a bit of a blur, it just happen's and your left thinking what the hell happened there before the emotion sink's in. Then the scene goes to a new emotion quite quikly (Spring) so you don't really get time to think about what's happened.
In Dumbo the pain is dragged out (with the added bonus of the song "Baby Mine") so you cant help feel sad but in Bambi you feel confused then upset, then very quikly alright again.
Yes in the end Dumbo is re-united with his mother so you don't feel as bad as Bambi because he's lost her forever but it doesn't matter because he's a man and has his own family so you forget all about it.
