Why is everyone these days using that those ugly wide outlines? I think they look awful, as well as screaming cheap and tacky. I have only once seen them used properly.

I dont really find enough to compain only about dark lines.

What are the tons of shows you see where theyre improperly used?

I don't really mind them. I think he means shows like Dexter's Lab, Invader Zim, and perhaps PPG. It does give it more of a "cartoonish" feel by emphasizing the fact that it is a drawing, but in a good, stylistic way IMO.

I personally like the lines, they kind of give it a "cleaner" look to them. It looks more organized to me. It usually works for many cartoons, and I wonder what Samurai Jack would look like with outlines.

Thick outlines help separate the characters from a background. They have been a part of art for several decades, though not used in cartoons until the late 90s.

Nearly every webcomic on earth these days uses thick outlines.

I don't have a problem with thick outlines, as long as there is variety in thickness. Characters shouldn't have thick outlines if they're far in the background for example. Most shows stick to this, although a couple don't, and have atrocious establishing shots for it.

Some of Clerks: TAS looked pretty dirty with the thick outlines.

I like that style... it looked great in Clerks, and it's a big improvement in season 2 of ZIM. It can be a little weird sometimes, but it's a neat-looking style, I think.

I'm thinking of stuff like Kim Possible, Teamo Supremo, Fairly Odd Parents etc

It just seems to me that the outlines detract attention from the actual characters, waste space and generally seem out of place in cartoons.

I like it the same way I like Squigglevision: As long as everyone doesn't start doing it, it's fine by me. Although I'll say it's getting a little more popular lately... hopefully it won't start becoming the norm.

It's okay, Sometimes I think it's overdone, but I think more can be done with wide outlines. To be honest, I would love to see what BTAS or Superman TAS would have looked like with slightly wider outlines. The current cartoons with wide outlines are crudely drawn, often deliberately. I would like to see some real artistry using wide outlines.
