New Board!! Fan Pictures!!

Hey folks,

As long-time posters and visitors know, we have some talented artists in our midst, who have generously shared some of their art with us. Great illustrations by guys like salvor and lucho are popping up regularly, and many of us have gone off to visit Nightflower's site and come back singing its praises.

Toonzone administrators have decided that artistic talent and interest around here has reached a critical mass, and so have decided to add a new board devoted to fan art. The scope of the board is not entirely settled yet, but we do know that we want it to extend farther than just superhero representations, to include (at least) classic toon representations as well, and probably much more. (The only restriction we are settled on is that it must be PG or less.)

The new board will be located under the "Toonzone" forum umbrella (along with "The Warner Bros. Club," "The Story Board" and "DVD Discussion"). Once it's set up, we want everyone to visit, and to feel free to submit their work for inspection and comment. But before it opens. . . .

We need a name for it!

Our working title is "The Fan Pics Board," but we'd like something a tad more clever. (No disrespect to the guy--you know who you are!--who pitched this concept under that title.) Anyway, we'd like to throw it out to all of you: What should we call the new board? Whoever comes with the winning title will get . . . um, the warm glow of seeing their winning submission in big type? The right to do the Superiority Dance? The eternal gratitude of the King of the Gods? (Note to self: Check with Harley. Do these guys actually WIN anything?)

After a bit more discussion, the consensus seems to be that there will be NO LIMIT on possible subject matter, so long as it is no more than a PG in rating. Of course, given our interests at the Toonzone sites, pictures of superheroes and classic toon characters, and of original creations falling somewhere in those categories is particularly encouraged.

Sounds like a cool idea :) Unfortunately, I gotta keep fan art-ing to a minimum, since my animation school portfolio should have lots of original work. I do have some old fan art though that I could show.

why limit the board just to drawings by posters? what about poems, or song lyrics that other posters have created? i think it would be cool to add these things to the board and other creative things that i didnt list that the people of the boards have come up with? so..........is my idea a good one? if you like it say you do! im sure id have to have a mod's consent weather my idea could be used though. but if this just sounds stupid(like most of the things i say) you can call me an idiot and we can pretend like i never wrote this.......thoughts?

Frankly, though, I like the idea. Songs and poetry are too varied on the story boards too be effectve (unless about the subject) and the AniGen boards would be cluttered up if we often posted these things here. So I say we change this into a "Creativity" board for any and all the arts! :) Great idea, Joker!

Well, if we're going to have a board with a high concentration of images on it, I think it ought to be restricted to images and not include other items.

To my mind, this sounds less like an argument for opening up the new fanpics board to non-pics, than for a new board devoted to prose and poetry that is NOT toon related (like the WF Fanfics and TZ Story Board are). I certainly don't want to pour cold water on the idea, but maybe for the time being we should stick to one thing at a time.

Just for an official clarification:

The Story Board located at the WBC is just such the place. While we may say the story should relate to WB or CN programming, past or present (which in itself presents a very wide range); we've never really been strict on what we accept. In the past we have had things such as poetry and song lyrics posted, and we more than welcome it today.

The only thing we do ask is try not to mess with the continuum's we've created. You can take the characters off in any direction you'd like, but before you go mentioning stuff that happened in other people's stories, at least have the courtesy to check permission with the author(s). (which isn't really asking too much anyway, since it is something that should be done if you are gonna use another person's property.) You are also more than welcome to jump into any chainlinks we have going or organize, so long as permission is recieved, once again, a usual common courtesy ;) )

Oh yeah, and finally, just glimpse over the rules for the Story Board. They are rather basic, but still enforced...especially keeping the stories below the realm of PG-13.

Well, as you can imagine our concentration has been elsewhere this week, but we're still moving forward with the FanArt Board. We are still accepting title suggestions, but want to get this wrapped up.
