It seems most people here are in university or below. What do you guys want to be when you grow up, at this point in your life?
For people who have jobs...is the job you're doing what you wanted to do?
I wanted to be a pure mathematician, however I became an electrical engineer and did a minor in mathematics, actually a bit more than a minor.

I wanna be the head economists for a major corporation. I'll make millions there and in the stock market. Then I'll run for Gov. of my state, turn the state around for the better and eventually run for Senator.
Or I would like to work for the United Nations. That would be a sweet job.

Well does being a Toon Zone forum Mod. count??? LOL. Actually right now I'm a highschool student. After HS I will attend college and after that hopefully I will become a writer for comics.

I don't think a mod counts in having a job, but getting into comics should be very interesting.

I originally planned to be an astronomer or astrophysicist. Once I became an undergrad, I quickly realized there's not much of a living in astronomy, and switched to physics and mathematics. Got my BS in physics, but then decided I didn't want to do pure physics theory work my whole life, so I went to grad school and started in the PhD program in Electrical Engineering. I worked on plasma science for a while, but then got tired of working for a jerk of an advisor (to put it nicely), so I took my Masters and left. I am currently working as an antenna design engineer doing one of a kind prototype antennas for government contracts. I'm having fun doing it, and plan to stick with it for now (as long as the company doesn't fold!).

Unfortunately I'm a lazy idiot. So my ideal job is to stay home because of winning the $315million lottery.

Well if being successful in acting didn't pan out, then I plan on being anything from a professor, researcher, historian, information analysists, etc.

Let's see... I currently work full time as a bookseller @ Barnes & Noble, not the ideal job for someone with a BA in Psychology, but what can one do with a BA in Psychology? It pays the bills...
Ultimately, I'd like to do something along the lines of Forensic Psychology, or some kind of police work. I'm doing work on a Criminal Justice degree (it was my minor in college, so I don't really have much to finish up) and I'll eventually get my masters in either Psych or CJ to move on in the world..

I want to be an illustrator of the freelance kind. Music was my life - still is, but I reckon I can make a living through Art - that would be great - especially comic art!!! That would be so amazing! :D

For my undergraduate degree, I went to Illinios Wesleyan University, which is a small private university that's about a 5 minute walk from Illinios State University. I got my graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
The name of the parent company I work for is Titan (used to be Titan Corporation, which, before that, was called Titan Systems Corporation). They're a huge company that's got their fingers in a little bit of everything - one of their recent spin-off companies was Sure-Beam - the company that supplied the machines that they used to irradiate mail in DC after the anthrax scare and that is currently selling the same machines to irradiated meats.
Anyway, I work in the Aerospace Electronics Division in the DC area - we used to be a small private company, but were bought up by Titan a few years ago and turned into the AED. We're still a pretty small place - a total of about 40 workers (including all the finance and accounting people, inventory people, contracts people, management, and the engineers), and we pretty much run independently of the parent corporation. We work mainly for the military sector - doing contract work for the DoD and DARPA. We have a sister company that works on commercial contracts, and we share our technologies back and forth as needed. It's a pretty unique working environment, and I'm pretty happy with it.
What about you? What school? Why the change out of mathematics? (My g/f just got her PhD in applied mathematics last month)

I have no plans yet. Even though I turn down questions about it, there are some thoughts in my mind.

I do analog IC design,
Well I live in Canada so I went to the University of Waterloo. I went into electrical engineering. My university gives us an options, like a math option, physics option, management option...etc. I chose the math option which is a bit harder than doing a minor in math. Math has always been my first love. Your girlfriend got her PhD in applied mathematics. You are lucky my friend, very few women are in anything math/physics/engineering.
