Here's an interesting story (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/).
Video Business Magazine is reporting that Pat Wyatt has resigned as President of Fox Home Video and Consumer products. She announced her intention of starting up an independent production company specializing in anime, with a focus on original direct-to video properties. According to Pat Wyatt, the titles that are being funded by the new company will combine the look of animation created by Japanese and Korean companies with stories that have a beginning, middle, and end, she said.
Any thoughts on this?
I hope Pat Wyatt realize that anime is successful not because of the art style, but because of the good stories the medium tells.

That's what I like about anime though, it's like a giant book with sagas/arcs as chapters and episodes like pages.

ok, correct me if in wrong, but i thought by 'independent production company specializing in anime' means just another studio, like ADV, bandai etc (production as in, translating scripts, dubbing etc), and not actually a production company (as in doing the animation, storyboards etc.)? i mean, they said in the end of the article that they are only funding, like ADV does with some of their titles.
anyhow, more anime, the better :tom:

well, if it's Fox's foray into the dubbing/subbing industry of the US, it could be very interesting, if they do it right. I'd say it's 50/50 at best that Fox won't mess it up. I just hope they don't buy and/or fund something good, then fowl up the dub or sub or both.

Well the article it sounds like Pat is trying to make her own anime. Why else would need to, "combine the look of animation created by Japanese and Korean companies"?
BTW, ADV did try and make their own anime called SIN.
I heard that end result wasn't that great.
Not if we haven't seen it.

You misunderstood something in the original message:
Video Business Magazine is reporting that Pat Wyatt has resigned as President of Fox Home Video and Consumer products.
This clearly is not a Fox project. It is being started by an ex Fox employee.
I too worry about what this will turn into. Will she be satisfied doing simple translations with minimal changes, as the semi-fan-friendly video companies do, will she be making TV friendly "adaptations" in the tradition of Saban, 4-Kids, Nelvana, Sandy Frank, and Harmony Gold, or will she create her own anime pastiche in the vein of "Totally Spies"? It's too soon to tell. If I can find a way to contact her, I will be inviting her to my convention next June so she can get some idea of who her audience really is.
