The Penguin
01-02-2003, 03:33 AM
I admit this post is a little late, but anniversaries of all sorts mean a lot to me so I really want to share. December 20, 2002 marked my one year anniversary as a member of the Toon Zone forums!
In the fall of 2001 I was down in a friend's room using his computer because I didn't have one of my own at the time. He told me I should look for information on the Justice League cartoon which premiered Nov. 17.
I did a net search on Google and I can up with several options. I clicked down and eventually came upon Toon Zone and World's Finest. I found exactly what I looking for and more! Since I don't do homework as often as I should I surfed around the site and eventually found myself in the forums. I surfed around some of the boards specifically Batman, Superman & Beyond because that's where my real interest lies. I lurked for awhile and I thought to myself the kinds of things I would like to say in response to some of the posts, but I couldn't because I wasn't a member! So I finally decided to sign up...
Since Batman is what drew me to the place I chose my favorite Batman villain, The Penguin, as my username and found what I wanted to use for my avatar...

There was a thread going about which Batman character you would want to get rid of and some people were saying The Penguin. So made my first post a new thread asking What's wrong with the Penguin? (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15012) Geez, I made it at 3:29 a.m. my time. I was up late. But then again what else is new? :D
The great community and the awesome group of posters and moderators made this a great place to come to and talk with people about Batman. If it wasn't for TZ and WF I might not have found out Batman and Superman were coming to cartoon network.
After coming here and posting I became a mod (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35868) of The Entertainment Board on June 3 when Maxie Zeus went on hiatus...
"No one, I think, has ever established himself more quickly on these boards than The Penguin as someone who is well-nigh indispensible: Intelligent, witty, unfailingly courteous, and amazingly helpful. It takes no finely filtered Penguin gas to persuade us that this is the man to help handle these places. And all you WWE fans can rejoice; you've now got one of your own in the halls of Toon Zone power!"
Maxie's words really meant a lot to me because he was someone I had come to respect. ;)
I really felt like I have contributed here with things like The WWE Big Question (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60867), The WWE Trivia Thread! (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=456995), The B:TAS talkbacks (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61052), the Live-Action Bat Quote/Trivia Quiz (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52554) and organizing the movie talkbacks (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47352) so they are easier to find even weeks after the film has been released. If I can come up with something that people enjoy or can get something out of then I feel like I have done something worthwhile.
Whether or not people you meet and talk to on the Internet are "real" friends I feel like I have made quite a few here. I ask them for advice, let them rant, shoot the breeze, ignore them when I'm part of an AOL chat :p —stuff you do with any other friend. I don't want to make a list and leave some people out, but I think you all know who you are. ;)
This site and its forums mean a lot to me in so many ways. Between the news page and my fellow posters on The Entertainment Board I get all of my entertainment news from here. If it's worth knowing someone finds it and puts it up. I learned Richard Harris had died right here and I also found out that Harry Potter isn't just for kids. I find that my friends in my hometown don't always like the same things I do, but I know I can always come here and find others who like that same that I can share thoughts with. I know very few people who watch Boston Public, but I come to the boards and there are five or six who watch it every week who I can "talk" about it with. That's really nice to be able to do.
After a year of coming here, my day feels incomplete if I haven't stopped by Toon Zone at least once. My time has been great here so far and I don't see that ending anytime soon.
Here's to another year and another 3000 posts! :)
