Well I don't know why it "turned into a nightmare" but I cast my vote for the Eagles. I have a buddy who likes them so I know it will make him happy. Personally, I care about who wins so much at this point, that I'm wearing my XFL Chicago Enforcers shirt to the Super Bowl party. :D

I hope the Falcons, the most exciting team in football, starting with a blowout of your beloved Favre. I know it's a long shot but it would be cool to see. I would have said Packers if they hadn't lost home field advantage. With what I've seen lately, though, I have to say the New York Jets are going to win the Super Bowl. They have a great QB and are peaking at exactly the right time.

I do not think that the Jets will go all the way. The Packers didn't really care about this game. Lets go back to week 1. The Packers beat the Falcons 37-34. In Green Bay. And the Packers have never lost a home game in the playoffs, never. Also the falcons lost to the Browns??? Well see who comes out on top this weekend!! :D

Pittsburgh Steelers baby!
As a life long Steelers fan I would relish the opportunity to see my team win the big game (I was born a year shy of Pirates and Steelers championships).
However if Pittsburgh falters my support will be behind the other PA team - the Philly Eagles.

Judging by Favre's celebration and grittiness during that last minute drive before Halftime, I'd say they wanted home field pretty bad. The Jets just wanted in more, especially after the crowd erupted after that Dolphins/Patroits game ended.
Plus, by all rights, the Browns are a good football team. They hung in there for a while, except when Couch came out with an injury. The Falcons SHOULD have won that game. The replay should have been overturned before the playoffs by the instant replay view. Plus, with better play calling and a little more incentive on that goal line stand, we would have probably went to overtime.
The way I see it, you look at Michael Vick's numbers at the end of the Falcons/Packers game and you'll know who won. When the Falcons beat the Vikings in OT, Vick had around 250 total yards. When they got massacred by the Bucs, Vick was held to around 30 total yards, I believe.
With that all said, I'm pulling for the Jets all the way. With the Colts only beating the Jags 20-13 with a last minute touchdown that may or may not been overturned with a booth challenge. Yeah, they didn't have any incentive to win, but still. They had plenty against the NY Giants last week and they got ran over in Indianapolis. This will be in the Meadowlands. I really see the Jets winning. Maybe even a route.

I'll tell you that the Jets are going to have a hard time beating every team in the AFC. What are there chances against Tennessee?? In tennessee also. Also (if they get that far) will have to travel into Oakland! Even if they win all of that then they will probably be playing either the Bucs, Eagles or Packers!!! They won't go all the way!!

The Tennessee Titans have a horrible schedule. Heck, they play the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans both twice. The Indianapolis Colts, who aren't playing that well, they play twice. And I believe, they play the Bengals at least once.
The Jets played Oakland earlier this year in Oakland and lost only by a touchdown and the Jets were driving late in the game.

Since my team the Chicago Bears aren't in the playoffs this year I don't care, but on the other said of the coin I'd like to see the Titans win it all.
I like Eddie George and Steve McNair. Next to the Giants, and Jets the are the most dangerous team in the playoffs.
All I hope is the Packers don't win. Because well, like I said I'm a Bears fan through and through.

Yeah they probably did have a bad schedule but the Eagles lost to every team in the AFC south except the Texans and the Eagles are Super Bowl contenders. And what about the Saints. The highest scoring team in the league lost the some of the sorriest teams in football, (Bengals, Vikings, and Panthers). So my point is Doesn't matter who you play, you win the games your suppose to. It seems most of the AFC teams ended the season with in a good note unlike the NFC teams (Eagles, 49ers, Packers) and the Bucs are without Brad Johnson. Shhs all I know is its going to be a hell of a playoff.

Good point, but I think the Saints problem was that for some reason, they played to the level of their opponent. They let their guard down against the Bengals, which cost them big time.
Well, when it comes to that, the Titans only beat the Texans 13-3. If the Texans would have cashed it on some opportunites, they could have concieveably one that game last week, and the Titans had a bye on the line so they had something to play for.
All I'm saying right now about the NFC is that the Giants have to be the favorite going into the playoffs. Whether you want to admit it or not, the Giants could beat the Eagles, even at the Vet.

Condiment King. Yes the Titans only beat the Texans by 10. I don't think the Titans will go all the way. I put my picks in the pool. I thought it'd be fun to explain them here.
Jets over Colts
The New York Jets are playing in the meadowlands for this game. The Colts beat the Jags 20-13 last week and don't have a lot of momentum going into the playoffs while the Jets are on a huge emotional high with wins over the Patroits and the Packers in the last two weeks. The Jets very well could run away with this one. Pennington is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL right now and Curtis Martin will be a key factor in this game.
Packers over Falcons
After the last loss against the Browns, the Falcons aren't that ready for the playoffs. Grant it, they easily could have won this game, but they didn't. The factors in this game are home field, Michael Vick, and Brett Favre. We cannot forget that the Packers have not lost at home. Plus, Michael Vick has be the key element for the Falcons to win in practically every game. For the Falcons to have a shot at winning, Vick will have to have a great day. Brett Favre has had back to back bad weeks against the Bills and the Jets. Expect him to correct his problem with picks (5 INTs in the last two games) for this game. Packers win by about ten.
Giants over 49ers
After the shocking defeat of the 49ers by the Rams, the 49ers are playing sloppy football. A 31-20 loss to the Rams and a 17-14 meager win over the Cardinals are their last outings. The Giants are coming off a 44-27 win over the Colts and a 10-7 overtime victory over the Eagles which could have easily been a blowout. The Giants could very well bust this game wide open but it would have to be early and they couldn't let the 49ers under Jeff Garcia and Terrel Owens come back in this football game. I think it very well may be close.
Browns over Steelers
This old school rivalry is almost guaranteed to come down to the wire but Tommy Maddox would have to have a great day. If Tim Couch shakes the cobwebs out of the injured he sustained against the Falcons that pulled him out of the game, the Browns will be in it. I could see this game going to the last play.
FavreFactor
12-31-2002, 10:35 PM
I had the exact picks as you!!! I agree with you 100%.
Jets + Colts- Coming off Green Bay win, have confindence to beat the Colts. Marvin Harrison hasn't been as hot.
Packers + Falcons- Packers haven't ever lost a playoff game at home and they will still not. Vick hasn't been the same and they couldn't even punch it in on 3 attempts in the redzone. Thats bad!
Giants + 49ers- Giants got the big win over the Egles and will continue over the 49ers. Big win for the G-Men!!
Browns + Steelers- Browns coming off impressive win will take it all out on the Steelers. Good win for the Steelers though on Tampa on Monday Night!!
Couch is actually out for the playoffs (broken right leg), so it'll be backup Kelly Holcomb making the start...who has done well this year in that role.
I still haven't formulated picks yet. Probably because I'm still in shock over who got in and who didn't.

Like last year, you might be surprised who makes it to the superbowl!!!
Hehe yea, I can see why you'd call the playoffs almost a "nightmare"
Two weeks before the season even ended there were sooo many who could make it based off what seemed like hundreds of scenarios. If I recall, I think only *3* teams at that time were sure things for making the playoffs.
Then the season ends.
No Saints, no Chargers, no Dolphins, no Patriots, no Chiefs...wow. We get the Jets and the Browns? Even more...wow.
Exactly what the NFL wants :D
(if only MLB would get a clue...)
The Packers wanted home field advantage and cared about the game early on. Going into the second half you could see that. But after the Jets took a 28-10 lead I believe they stopped caring. If you pull your starting QB in the third quarter you obviously don't care anymore. Which is strange to me considering how bad they are on the road.
The teams not getting in don't surprise me. The Dolphins fall apart annually in December. As do the Chargers, just like last year. After losing an MVP candidate in Holmes I doubt the Chiefs would've made it, especially against Oakland. The Saints can't seem to beat the sure wins. The Patriots had it and shot themselves in the foot by losing to the Titans and Jets. The Ravens even had their chance but couldn't get it done.
One team I would be very wary of in the playoffs is the 49ers. Blow a 17-3 lead to the Rams and lose 31-20? They barely beat the Cardinals and their special teams continues to be pathetic. The Giants are coming in with all the momentum in the world and I expect an upset. A couple others would be the Falcons and Packers. The Falcons lost to the Browns after making many mistakes and facing their 2nd string QB. The Packers lost big to the Jets and will get a road game to what I think (and probably many others) will either be Tampa Bay or Philadelphia. And about that first Falcons-Packers game, the Falcons would've won had their receiver not dropped what was basically a wide-open touchdown pass.
I don't understand what's so shocking about the Eagles losing and the Packers losing. The Giants came off a big win and knew what they had to do. Had the officials called 2 more plays right, you could make the score 21-7. And after the Jets saw the Patriots win they showed alot more drive to win the game knowing they could get in.
FavreFactor
01-01-2003, 09:14 AM
I gotta give the Giants, Browns, and Jets credit. They hung in their games and got the win they needed. Also the teams they needed to lose, lost. Like the Patroits game. Miami should of just put them out, and the Miami Dolphins would be in the playoffs. The Saints don't deserve to get in the playoffs. Losing to the Bengals and then to the Panthers??? Green Bay has to bounce back form their loss and get a win over the Falcons. 49ers don't deserve to get in either. Lets see, lost to Packers, barely beat the Cardinals, and barely beat Dallas. The Chargers blew their lead over Seatle so they play like they don't care if they make the playoffs. So I think the teams that deserved to win, got in. :)

About these teams left out:
Saints: The New Orleans Saints lost to the Bengals two weeks ago and that was the loss that took away control of their own destiny. Then, of course, they lost again to a Panthers team that believe it or not, isn't that shabby. Saints didn't play like a playoff team, recovering a fumble deep in Panthers territory and settling for a field goal. The highest scoring team in the NFL held to six points?!
Dolphins: They would have won the division with a win over the lowly Vikings. That's right, the lowly Vikings. But wait, the Vikings aren't that bad, are they? Wins over the Saints, Dolphins, and Lions to finish the year. I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings were here next year. Then, the Dolphins had it and dropped it. The Patroits pulled off a miracle and the Dolphins were out. Strange, too. The Dolphins played a great game with Ricky Williams rushing over 200 yards.
Patroits: Out of all the teams here, this team deserves it the most BUT to control their own destiny they had to beat those nasty Jets and they couldn't. But they'll be back.
Chiefs: It was a long shot for the Chiefs and they were playing against, in my mind, The Greatest Show on Earth 2.0, the Raiders. And Holmes was out at running back too! They needed a win and a lot of help. Didn't expect it. Heck, they needed the Cardinals to beat the Broncos.
Broncos: Finishing 9-7, the Broncos really needed that win over the Raiders two weeks back and really didn't get the chance all of the other playoff teams did, at the bottom of the pile even at a tie.
Chargers: This team fell apart. Starting at 6-1, the Chargers started their downfall with a huge loss to the Jets. What irony. :p They finished 8-8. With key losses to the Bills, Chargers, and Seahawks in the last three weeks, even if they would have made it somehow, they didn't deserve it.
Ravens: The Ravens had the worst chance of them all. After playing the Browns close and losing, the Ravens were 7-8 and still hopeful. Yet a close loss again, this time to the Steelers 34-31, cost them any shot at all. Eh well.
Bills: A good football team. With things going their way, they could have easily been say 10-6. Unfortunately, an offensive sitdown and NUMEROUS turnovers by Bledsoe let the Packers stumble to a 10-0 win.
FavreFactor
01-01-2003, 11:01 AM
I agree with them all!!! Yes the Bills stumbled against the Packers. Throwing a pic in the endzone??? Yes the Patroits should be in because they started playing good lately. The Raiders in my mind are the best in the AFC. Rich Gannon is having a great year. The Dolphins should of gotten in. Even maybe one of the wild-card spots??? Like the Bengals, I don't have anything to say about the Saints. Chiefs started to drop when they lost Priest Holmes. He was having an MVP year too. Broncos should of got in. Thats all I got to say!

NFC- Green Bay Packers

My picks for this weekend:
Packers over the Falcons- I don't like the Packers, but it's January and their playing in Lambaeu. God, or excuse me Micheal Vick had a pretty good showing against them in week 1, but this is the playoffs and the Falcons are pretty much going straight into hell while carring gasoline.
Giants over the 49ers-I would like to see the 49er's represent the NFC in the SuperBowl, but the last couple of games they have looked horrible. The Giants are coming off a win against their rivals the Eagles. Right now are probably the best team to hold the niners in check. If you don't believe me look at what they did to T O in week 1.
Steelers over the Browns- Old school rivalry, gotta love it. This Browns team are rookies when it come to playoffs the Browns haven't made the playoffs in maybe 11 years, that's when Vinny Testaverde was their starting qb. Tim Couch and company will have many more tries in the future to make it to the SuperBowl, it just won't happen this year. The Steelers have too many weapons in Maddox, Ward and Burress. Their defense is probably the best defense in the playoffs right now.
Jets over the Colts- Can we say shootout. Next to the Giants the Jets are the most dangerous team playing in the first round coming off a 30 point blowout of the Packers Sunday. Peyton Manning and company are good but the past couple of years they've made it to the post season they've, what's the word. Ahh, yes choked.

Eagles.
So much has happened this year that a Super Bowl birth, to me, is destined. Losing their great QB during a win, THEN losing their backup QB during a win, then going 4-1 with the third-stringer... all I can say is wow. Let's just hope this greatness continues.
FavreFactor

Yeah, but only five of those teams had winning records. Three of the teams are either not in the playoffs or no longer. Two of them ended the season 9-7.

Yep. The Jets surprised me with the 41-0 kill over the Colts. I couldn't believe the Colts didn't score 1 point in 60 minutes!!! And this is a playoff team???? I don't think so. Yes the Packers did lose, but they also lost 7 players in the game. I can't believe it. And the 49ers coming back 24 points. I bet the officals helped them there!!! Weird stuff is happening in the NFL!! :D
Man poor Browns, I mean how many times had something like that happened to them, there wining and they just collapse. Remember agaisnt the Radiers back in 1980 Brian Sipe's "The Interception" or in 1986 against the Broncos, where they had the game in there hands and then John Elway instigates "The Drive". Or that year later were Earnest Byner fumbled the game winning touchdown. Then they move the team to Baltimore were they win the super Bowl 5 years later. Poor guys......

The 49ers upset the Giants because the Giants shot themselves in the foot.
The officials weren't "helping" them, they were simply pointing out what was blantantly obvious. A Giant flagrantly slammed into a 49er that clearly signaled a fair catch, to start things off.
To be fair, the Giants would have won had they not been sore little crybabies. By the end of the game, they were starting to dive on the other players after plays and beat them up and throw their helmets off. They deserved every personal foul they got, the cocky bastards. I cheered when #36 was thrown out of the game.
To be honest, I hate both teams. But I hate the Giants so much more. Oh, how much I hate them.

Yes, he called fair catch then proceeded to run five yards to get the ball, which is illegal. But we don't need to call that. Or an incredibly obvious pass interference on the last play to get a replay of downs. Let's not call that either. Not that it would've mattered, Junkin either would've botched the snap, Allen would've screwed up the hold, or the most likely, Bryant would've kicked it wide right by about 20 yards.

Thankyou. The Giants lost the game themselves. The Giants let the game come down to a final field goal. They had a 28 point lead. They blew it, and the 49ers walked away with the win. Plain and simple.
I love how everyone says the Giants blew the game. Yes they blew a 24 point lead. Yes their defense could've played blindfolded and done better in the 4th quarter. Yes their special teams are just plain laughable. And yes they blew two 15 yard penalties by retaliating a personal foul with one of their own. But when all was said and done the officals blew the call that still could've won the game. There wasn't a great chance with Bryant kicking but it's better than none at all.

i am confused about the last play of the game for 49ers vs. Giants. listening to Sportcenter, it kind of sounded like the officials should have called the pass interference penalty even though the Giants player was illegally down field. did mishear that or were they talking about another play where the officials made a bad call?

I got a little confused about that too, but here is what really went down. #65 you know the player the place hold kicker threw it too, yeah well he was not an illegiable receiver, so in other words he could of caught the ball but he was held when he tried to catch the ball so it should of been a pass interfrence penalty. The director of officals said "our bad" and apologized to the Giants cause it should of been a penality and they should of gotten one more chance. Then again it should of never come to that, not only did they screw up in every way possible but the place holder could of done a million things other then just throw up a prayer. When the field goal was botched they still had 3 second left. He could of fell on the ball and call a timeout or he could of thrown it out of bounds.
Anyways I wasn't to clear on the explaination about the penalty but the Giants should of gotten another chance and the league already said sorry.
Foward momentum? If you call running foward five yards foward momentum then yes that's what it was. And enough with this "it shouldn't have happened at all". We all know the Giants choked big time but they still had a chance. Not a great chance with their sad special teams but it didn't matter since it was blown by the refs. Not a fun day to be a Giants fan.

I wonder if a game would ever go so far as to be played all over again. Well, obviously this game won't be but.....I wonder.
I must agree as well. If I were Jim Fassel, if I were the Giants GM, if I were a Giants player, I would go with the it shouldn't have happened in the first place thing. But when you are holding that up as a rebuttle to the bad call to the refs is pathetic. I don't care if it shouldn't have. They still should have gotten another shot. Not a great shot, grant you, but a shot.
Gah, I still can't believe that Giants 38, 49ers 14 in the third quarter, a relative blowout, transformed into this controversy. Actually, I can't believe that the Browns let the Steelers come back from two touchdowns down to win that game either. Ugh, what a day of football. And thanks to those said Steelers, my beloved Jets have to travel to the Black Hole. Ugh. Well, its go time.

I think I have seen more horrible calls this year than any other. To make a call that bad is inexcusable. The Giants had a much better chance at the Super Bowl, I don't care what anyone says. Whether or not it should have come down to that play or not is not important, what is important is that these idiot referees messed up what should have been an easy call and DEFINITELY cost the Giants the game. I know their field goal kicker is bad, but that would have been closer than a damn extra point. The defensive back TACKLED!! the receiver before the ball was even close. I can't believe this. The Giants get everything going and then the referees take the game from them. Some of these calls are making me wonder if the officials are possibly being paid to throw games. Examples: the Giants game, stealing the college championship from Miami with a flag 10 seconds late and a horrible call.... I don't know if football is turning into a nightmare, but the officiating definitely is!  this is one pissed off Giants fan. Now it's all on Atlanta for me.

I don't get what the confusion is. The refs did not make a bad call.
They were gonna call pass interference, but the Giants guy was ineligible, therefore there couldn't have been a pass interference. It doesn't matter if he was tackled or hit by a truck, it's like he didn't exist.

There was two offense linemen down the field and yes the official did call ineligible reciever downfield but the other linemen #68 was his number I believe was not ineligible therefore he could of caught the ball. It should of been pass interference, the penalties should of been offset and the Giant would of had another chance. But like everyone has said, it should of never of come to that.

I don't know if the title was exactly stolen from them (since they should never have trailed Ohio State), but they certainly got a bunch of questionable penalties late in the game. Sigh. Not a good year for Miami fans.
So.... Go Steelers!!

Yes. The play should of been called! When its that late in the game refs, just let the guys play football. If the call is not that easy, THEN DON"T CALL IT!!!!!!! Now everyone is talking about maybe there going to redo the play. Its too late now refs, you already took the superbowl chances away from the Giants!!!!

That's funny. Ernie Accorsi, Giants GM, said on a telephone interview with SportsCenter on Monday that the refs didn't blow a 24 point lead.

Yeah, that's what I was going off of. I mean, the Giants shouldn't have blown the lead in the first place is what I would think if I were a Giants player, Giants GM, or Jim Fassel.

Hey, hey, hey. Watch it. That's what separates Philly sports fans from everyone else. We're passionate, we're vicious and we're proud of it in a weird way. Yeah, we've had our black spots, the Irvin thing (which I'll admit, even I was kinda ashamed about, but i dont think it was as bad as Cleveland fans cheering when their own starting QB got injured), the battery throwings at JD Drew, the snowball peggings at Santa (which Santa deserved btw, no one ever mentions Santa's part in it), etc. But nobody in the nation has more passionate fans than Philly.

I haven't ever liked the Eagles and I will continue that. I think they play and their fans are dirty!! But it is hard to go into philly and win!!! :)
There not just bad in football but also in Basketball. Last year in the All Star game in Philly, (as much as I don't like Kobe) Kobe got booed in his own hometown when he recieved the MVP award. Thats messed up, Imgain going back to your hometown and being booed. And the whole bussiness with the holes in the cheerleaders locker room..
Failure we all know Celevland is almost just as bad, remember that incendent with the fans throwing beer bottles at the refs?

And if Michael Vick starts busting loose on the Eagles' defense early, we might see some more of that booing from the Eagles' fans this Saturday.
As for my picks this weekend:
Jets over Raiders - This is the first time in a long while that two teams coming off shutouts. (Jets defeat Colts in AFC Wild Card, 41-0, and the Raiders defeat the Chiefs in Week 17, 24-0) I doubt that Pennington will be able to pass with as much accuracy as against the Colts' secondary, but this is crucial to the success. The Raiders need to start their running game. If the Jets force them to pass, Gannon might make mistakes causing three and outs. The only way for the Raiders to win this game is to establish the running game. If the Jets defense holds, the Jets will win.
Eagles over Falcons - This maybe more of a toss up than people are suspecting. The key in the game for the Eagles, take Michael Vick out of the game. If they can do that, they will win the game. I think that they will.
49ers over Buccaneers - This game hinges on the ability of Brad Johnson, coming off his injury. If Brad plays like the guy that we have seen in the regular season, they very well may win. If Brad plays more like Rob Johnson, his replacement, the Bucs will lose. The 49ers have to play with the fire that they played with to finish the game against the Giants. Establish the pass, find key targets, and control the tempo of the game. Don't let the Bucs control the game.
Steelers over Titans - This will be the closest game of the weekend. McNair has to get lose and find his targets. Eddie George is the key factor for the Titans and he has to have a good game. Tommy Maddox has to forget his other runins with the Titans and just focus on this football game. If Maddox can calm down and stay in the pocket, instead of rushing out of the pocket and hurrying passes, we won't see more Steelers' three and outs.

My picks are Steelers over the Titans because the Titans are rusty and Pittsburgh are on a roll with Maddox. Also another team that is rusty is the Eagles. Yes they have McNabb back but I think Vick will come in an run all over the Eagles. The Jets are playing good, but they arn't strong enough to stay with Oakland. Lastly the Bucs over the 49ers. The 49ers can't come into Tampa and win!!

passionate? hahaha. don't make me laugh. cheering when a football player is lying down and not moving, is not passionate, doing those sort of things are just immoral. Philly fans rank right up there with Raider Fan. i heard that Raider Fans once beat up a chargers fan and peed on another sports team fan. i think the opposing teams of the raiders are more scared of Raider Fan then the players on the raider team.
Damn, what a game, Titians won in OT and could you believe the FG kicker got a second chance to kick it. Shhss not many kickers, hell not many teams get a second chance. cough:Giants:cough

Eh, I really don't think that that call was correct. Grant it, the Titans lost a call on their next to final drive of the regulation (not the uncatchable play, the one after that.). I kinda think that the Steelers should have came away with this one. They played a heck of a game, forgetting their last game at the same time. I really didn't much care anyway, the Jets will be on the road eitehr way if they beat the Raiders tomorrow. [which they will :)]
By the looks of the late game so far, Eagles lead 10-0 and driving, it looks like this may be a blowout. But then again, you never know, the Titans lead 14-0 in the 2nd quarter and it turned into this.
BTW, did anyone notice that Cowher had some choice words for the officials after the game? :D

Yes. We all talked about the Giants getting killed without the flag!! It was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. And all the officals said after the call was, "Sorry." I was mad that they gave the Titans another chance to kick the field goal. That contact was by mistake. The Steelers should of won the game. I hope the Falcons can come back!!! :)

What happened yesterday??? The Steelers played good staying with the Titans but then the officals let them try it again??? I only watched a little of the Falcons-Eagles game because I was sick and tired of hearing them call holding and face mask on the Eagles over and over again.
Penalties- Atlanta - 9 Eagles - 3
Penalite yards- Atlanta - 95 Eagles - 30
A little home field atvantage with the officals isn't it!!!

I thought it was the defensive player responiblity to avoid the kicker. The Steelers had chances to win the game.

That's what I thought. I thought running into the kicker is always incidental (except for cases where the kicker moves into the defense). It looked like a fair call to me. And Pitt's timeout seemed to come after the snap.

:( :( :( :( Chad Pennington had a pretty bad day and the Raiders changed everything around in the 2nd half with the passing game opening up. Personally, this may just be me, but there were a lot of calls in the secondary that went untouched throughout the game. A lot. In the end, with 4 turnovers, you just can't win a game. I believe the Raiders got 17 points just off those turnovers. It was nice while it lasted.
Man what crappy games (except if your a Raider fan of Bucs fan) today, I'd expect more games like the Pitt. and Tenn. game. So old school Gannon destroyed new school Pennington.

Hey Dawg, don't hate, congratulate. Chad Pennington did pretty good for a first time starter in a playoff game. Regardless of the media, on Sunday, he was just a young QB overwhemled like Vick was on Saturday . He will be back, trust me, he will be back.

*steps off* My bad, my bad. But you can't really blame the media for assuming to much. This kid, (who is pratically a rookie) beat soon to be legendary Bert Frave (bad I might add) beat Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady (really bad), and Pro Bowl bound Payton Manning (destoryed him). Had one of the highest completeion % in recent date, and had like a 142. something QB rating. But yeah, maybe those comparsions might of pressured him in one way or another, who knows?

There is a lot more to factor in, not just the talent of the QB. You gotta think about the strength of the running game, the pass protection, and the defense he was playing against. Pennington raped the Colts cause they have no defense (and no heart). The Raiders have good defense and you saw what happened there. Vick's passing is good because his strength as a runner buys him time. That's why he's a step above all the others, just needs time to develop. And since my chosen Super Bowl champion team was eliminated... I think the team that wins the NFC will win the Super Bowl in a blowout. I think it will be the Bucs.
God forbid we talk about a good player besides Vick, Gannon, McNabb, Bledsoe or the countless others that have been talked about for, oh, 18 weeks. Pennington came in and quietly had the highest rating in the league, no one said a word about him except "the Jets are a little better". It wasn't until about week 17 he started getting any respect and put in the same name of the great QBs in the league now. 3 weeks of talk is D*** riding? Sure in those 3 weeks he threw 12 touchdowns and no interceptions, why should be talk about him? Gannon has been heard about all year but the second some talk about Pennington comes up it's wrong as if it wasn't deserving. And all the Namath-Montana bull was just crap said by biased NY papers, not people with half a brain that realize you can't compare a third year quarterback to some of the greatest to ever play. He had one bad game the whole year and immediatly people are claiming all his hype was nothing. Sorry he couldn't pull a Tom Brady.

You got to know that Chad Pennington isn't the greatest QB that ever lived. I can name many QB's in the league right konw that are better than him. Brett Favre, Rich Gannon, Tom Brady, Drew Bledsoe, Michel Vick, Steve McNair, Brad Johnson and Donavan McNabb. Chad Pennington still has a lot to learn and since their performance against the Jets, I believe the Raiders will go all the way!!!! :D
