Some years ago, I rented a Public Domain Daffy Duck tape, which had many classic cartoons plus the rare "Daffy - The Commando". I remembered that in this tape, the text featured in the translation cards (during the "Telefon" scene) was in perfect condition and perfectly readable.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw this cartoon on Local Chilean TV, and noticed the text was there, but it was barely visible and hard to read.

Recently, I downloaded the realvideo copy from "Public Domain Cartoons in Realvideo" and noticed the text was completely missing.

Does anyone knows (or at least has a theory) why the quality of this particular scene changes so much between prints? I'm sure most of you folks have noticed.

Because diffrent prints vary in how bright and dark they are, a brighter print would surely white out the thin lettering on the translation cards. The print on the laser disc of Bugs and Daffy: The Wartime Cartoons from MGM didn't really suffer from this problem, but the cards were still kind of bright.
