Does being a video gamer, artist, cartoon geek, comic book fan AND a Christian make me a 'freak'?

I mean... people have always avoided me, and I think it's because of those reasons. Video gamers and comic books fans have the stigma of being 'living in the basement geeks' (I still live with my parents, but I don't live in the basement, hell, the house doesn't HAVE a basement!), cartoons are generaly percived as 'kiddie', artists are either thought of as 'snots', 'preppies' or 'furries' (The OTHER kind of 'furry', if you get my drift)

And don't get me started on what people think of Christians. Just don't. I've had enough 'mud slapped in my face' and friendships ruined because I've said i'm a Christian. :(

I dunno what to do. Anyone else feel like a 'freak', because of the things you like? Your lifestyle? :(

I'll hug ya too. *Hugs.* You shouldn't listen to people like that. I know it can be hard, it was like that for me too. Though, I didn't get beat up or anything. Just be yourself, and be cool with YOURSELF

I'm a Christian and an animation fan. Tastes differ, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Well, if what you've listed makes you a freak, then shake hands, sis... I'm a freak too. :D

And if we're both Christians, does that make us Jesus freaks? (People familiar with DC Talk should get that... if not, shame on you. ;) Well, maybe shame on me for making the joke. :o )

Seriously, yeah, sometimes I do feel like I stick out like a sore thumb among my peers because I love comic strips and animation... and stick out even MORE because I'm Christian in addition to that. AND I'm a hopeless nutcase. :p But y'know...I kinda like it. What I like and what I believe may be different from most other people's interests. But at least I know what I like and why I like it, as opposed to just tolerating something because everyone else supposedly "likes it". As for why I believe what I do... well, I don't want to turn this into a debate. :) Not to mention it would take me a lifetime to answer that.

In any case, my point is... Chin up, sis... you're not alone here. :)

LOL.Yeah I think we all like you love. ;)

No don't ever let people do that to you. One of the truest things I've ever read came from the Queen of the current fad, JK Rowling. Muggles - people who stick together and live ordinary lives. Then there are people live how THEY want to live. None of those things - especially religion - should make you feel bad - you should embrace the richness you get out of them and be proud of who you are.

That's the first step to enjoying life. Forget what others think, just consider and make sure you do what YOU enjoy!!!

Naaaaah, all the freaks are outside. You know: the sane people. {looks around nervously} The ones who have this weird thing called a "real life". :p

A "freak" is a word people made up to insult others. Hence, the only people freaky enough to make up such a word are freaks. Those people are probably dead by now, and so, there is no such thing anymore. See how logic helps? :D

Who said being a freak is bad? I'm a freak, geek, crazy person and don't care if people call me it cause its a good thing in my eyes. I like comics, cartoons/anime, video games (Don't play them a lot anymore cause of $) and lots of people I know think of me as a artist but I don't think I am. As for religion...well lets just say me and religion don't mix. My friends joke around callin me a freak and so on and I take it more as a compliment then anything. If you are getting called a freak by strangers or bullies beat the crap out of them :p If you just think people think your a freak then your just being crazy who cares what people you see for 10 seconds of your life think as far as you know they could be the "freaks" that go home and do strange things...

Hey I'm Christian and I love anime/manga I also love animation as a whole. I play games every now and again. But hey I'm no freak just because I don't wanna follow the other lemmings dosen't make me or any one else a freak. If people call you a freak then act like one by doing some totaly stuipd just to freak them out.

I'm a 36 year old Roman Catholic father of two kids. I dig anime, action figures, video games and all sorts of other geeky things. Am I a freak? Maybe so....

Do I care? Nope, my kids love me, my wife loves me... do I really need the approval of others that I don't really know? :)

If you are I am. I'm a Christian, Batman fan, comic fan, Batman fan, superhero cartoon fan, and, did I mention Batman fan? Don't let people bother you Mekairinek, I don't have any friends either. But that's proabaly do to the fact that I'm home-schooled. But that's another thread.

Yer all freaks.

I'm a geek, though. I'm an artist, comic collector, movie buff, toy god, manager of a Toys R Us(uhg), thespian, director, writer, technically christian but I've kinda blown it off since it's been BSing me for sooo long. I wear mostly black, and if not black, usually dark DARK colors(usually green...for some reason. I hate green.), but I'm not gothic, just realistically depressed and angry with the world, which I am trying to destroy, but really I dont make any effort it destroy it....anyway...

I'm a geek, not a freak. Get it straight or I'll smack ya'...

but we're talking about you now. And yes....you is a freak. ;)

Not only do they have matching avatars, they have matching sub titles, and the're locations and signatures go together. And it's freaky. Took me a minute to figure it out.

I like geek stuff and I'm Christian. Just don't let it get to you, if someone is a true friend and they aren't Christian...they aren't going to care or give you any hassle. Those are the kinds of people you want to befriend :).

Hell no you're not as much of a freak as I am! I'm an artist, anime fan, manga fan, just all around animation fan, Scooby fan, I don't like Western comic superheros (get's pelted with tomatos), I can listen to Japanese music with out cringeing, still lives with her parents (though not by choice :p), plays Final Fantasy alot, in the school's anime club, on the school's lit and art mag, and I plan on going to Anime Central, my first anime con, and myabe with my parents!

If that isn't freaky, than I don't know what is! :p

<------Animie, Cartoon, and Comic fan. Spends around 10 hours a week (Minimum) at church.

As far as the "Am I a Freak?" question, yes. As far as the Christian way of things......
John 15:18 - "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. John 15:19 - If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

I mean, it's not like you should care. You are a freak in the world's eyes. Embrace it.

you can't be a freak when there are lots of other people like you. everybody's different anyway. I'm a video gamer, bad artist, cartoon geek, movie geek, and currently unsure of my religious beliefs. oh and I still live with the rents too. so I guess my answer would be no.

Ah, "FREAK" . Well, what exactly IS a freak, hmmm? Can anybody say they know just what exactly a freak is, what makes them freakish, or just why exactly every human being believes that they have the right ti judge a person as a freak? I think not. But lets just say that [i]I[i/] was a freak. Would I be a freak just because I'm:

1)A musician (mastered trumpet and learning the banjo (lol, now that sounds kinda weird), trombone, and keyboard)

2)an anime fan (The Big O, Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, and many others are on the fav list)

3)a comic collector (heh, old skool and newer stuff as well)

4)movie buff (BIG TIME Ghostbusters fan plus I'm the man for all the greatest movies)

5)a writer (I'm currently working on a film noir style mini-series),

6)part time voice actor (heh, not getting paid like as in a job tho. I've done an online audio show with a freind of mine and have done many narrations and voiced for my own personal projects),

7)toy collector (G.I.Joe, Spawn, Transformers, gundam, and various items like Space Ghost, Austin powers, and Marvel stuff are in my collection)

8)not very religious

? I dont think so.

(Heh, sorry about all that. I kinda forgot what I was writing about for a little while. Lol)

You're not a freak. :)

I've been called a "sick freak" because I am so much in LOVE with a video game character: Resident Evil's own Carlos Oliveira. He's 100% computer generated but he soooo HOT!! HE'S GORGEOUS!! :D :D

I LOVE anime!! I LOVE manga!! I LOVE cartoons!! I LOVE video games!! :D I'll keep low on the religious subject. I respect your belief system (I'm Christian myself, but you wouldn't know it).

I happen to find some fictional characters gorgeous. It's pure fantasy and no one is getting hurt. :)

What bothers me is that those people who call this or that person a "freak" because of what they like bypass important information. I have a HUGE crush on Vincent Corazza!! :D :D Many people know that but a LOT bypass that part and think I'm a complete freak.

If they call you a freak, that's their problem. They have insecurities to work on. Don't let 'em bother you. :)

Fan of all types of animation, comics, manga, music, internet, video games, movies, books, D&D and other various RPGs. I'm a 23 year old divorced Lapse Roman Catholic that lives in his grandma's basement and spend way too much time at the bar.(when I'm not at school or doing the afore-mentioned hobbies.)

Am I a Freak? Probably
Am I a Geek? definately
Do I care? No, because most people are stupid and I don't listen to stupid people.

I don't know what makes a freak and what doesn't, but if people don't like you just because of your interests or religion, thank them for showing it, so you know not to be bothered with them. As far as friends go, they weren't/wouldn't be real friends. I'd rather be a freak than ignorant.

Think about it, those that judge you as being snotty because you're an artist and treat you accordingly are being snotty themselves. It's actually funny.

You are who you are and that's all anyone should expect you to be.

I'm a geek and a dork. My friends and I sport the title with pride, because we're not like everyone else. We don't feel the constant pressure to keep up with the latest fads or use layers of makeup just to please the material people. And we don't fret over fashion, either, we wear what we like - the Renaissance peasant look is now in and we resent that they took our style because then it looks like we're trying to fit in :p

Am I a freak as well? Hm, probably. But don't worry, we're all weirdos here.

None of those things inherently make you a "freak". What makes one freakish are the extremes to which one takes their interests.

When your expression of any one of these interests becomes a nuisance to others, it may define you as a freak, but it also makes you an ASS!

People are particularly sensitive about religion, and resent those who bring it up in casual discussion even when they agree with the position. Same goes for personal matters involving finances, politics, and sexuality.

no. evey one plays video games. every one draws here and there. every one watches cartoons, especially older people (the simpsons, south park, ect.) to me, the people who know jack about comics and go see the movie anyway might as well be a comic geek and fan.

Well, my former coworkers back in Indiana thought me freakish for *not* being Christian/religious/for being atheistic (along with finding my having read books about Buddhism as also "bizarre")...along with the interest in comic books and animation and whatnot. So take that what you will. :-)

What's wrong with being a freak. I think being a freak is great fun. I think it's very amusing to tell people about the freakish things I've done in the past. If there's one thing that I've learned is that life is not worth living unless you have fun living it. That means that you accept who you are and make the best of it, not caring what the rest of the world thinks, because believe me if I had a nickle for every time a person told me that they thought I was wierd, or that I should change my ways to be more like them, I would be bloody rich.
