with great recommendation from my friends, i checked out all three evil dead movies to watch over the week end. here is my review:

evil dead:
i went into this movie with very little knowledge of the three movies. i had only seen a 5 minute clip from army of darkness, so i expected this movie to be kind of and adventure horror. more adventure than horror. boy was i way off. my expectations were nothing like the actual movie. this movie proved to be truly creepy. it kind of had an exorcist feel to it. chalk full of odd camera angles to make it even more abstract. very good. i was expecting ash to be the hero he was in the third but he was kinda a wuss. which was kind of a disappointment. but overall great movie, good horror flick. 4/5 stars

evil dead 2: going into this movie i had a better feel of what it would be about. i felt this movie had more of a goofier tone than the first one and not quite as creepy. while it did have its creepy parts that made me anxious and on the edge of my seat, some scenes had me laughing hysterically. still filled with the odd camera angles that made the first one great only added to this movie. slowly in the movie we see ash build up a back bone and develop hero aspects to him self, my favorite out of the three, it gets a 5/5.

army of darkness: well this movie was kind of a disappointment after the first two and all of the praise it had been given by my friends. it was decent as best. it didnt have the same feel as the first two. ash didnt seem like the same person he was in the first two. in the second one he seemed cool and collected towards the end, but in this movie seemed very cocky and arrogant, and he wasnt as much fun to watch. this movie was an odd one to watch. it seemed like two people directed it. so thats how im going to rate it.
------
the beginning up until ash gets the book of the dead: this half of the movie wasnt really that bad, i quite enjoyed it actually. I was disappointed thought when ash lost his chain saw hand and got a normal one, I thought the chain saw was much cooler. This half of the movie gets a 4/5.
-----------------------
now on to the second half from where ash finds the book of death to the end: while the first half of the movie seemed to be connected to the first two, with ash breaking the mirror and running away from the phantom in the woods because of experiences in the previous movies in the first half, none of this seemed to be connected in the second half. the mood of the movie seemed much different also, the first half and with an adventure tone to it, with the second half having a crappy children’s movie with swear words full of dopey catch lines. The second half was not at all fun to watch. i gave this half of it a 2/5.
---------
average the totals of both halves and you get a 3/5. not that bad. This movie also had its share of memorable lines aside from all the cheesy ones also.

I love when ReBoot did a parody of Evil Dead :)

I heard that they made the first movie, but it was so bad, that they mocked it in the second one. The third movie isn't really a horror movie...more like an adventure-comedy. It was fun, but my favorite is the second one. I guess you know that the people who made Xena and Hercules made Evil Dead. Yay to Bruce Campbell.

My friends and I made an Evil Dead movie when we went to one of my friends' cottage :D
