I have to back up powerzord on this one. While I may not necessarily agree with his opinion, I do believe he has the right to say so. These are open forums for a reason. Anyway, I think Spongebob is OK, but it has gone downhill.

Seriously I can't understand why so many people like this stuff. Even some of the kids that are 1-3 years older than me and that are in college like the stuff. I watched one episode the other day and found it to be remedial and aimed at preschoolers. Can someone fill me in on how a sponge, a starfish, and a 6 legged squid are remotely funny?

It's a good show, though the episodes are hit or miss.

The first episode I saw I didn't like yet I liked the second and third but disliked the fourth. Chances are that if you only saw one episode, you won't get a good idea on what the show (or the characters) is like.

I'm 24 and I love Spongebob. However, I have to agree that not all episodes are great and like others have said, they're hit or miss.

...my stepdad (42) also loves Spongebob, and so does my little sister (13).

That's pretty much my attitude too. Don't get me wrong I USED to love Nick. Back when it had Rocko, Real Monsters, the GOOD Doug, and the original All That (and I was 8 :p). The All That thats on right now just sucks, period. Nick is just past it's prime, thats all.

I can't stand the show. To me, it represents the entire downfall of Nickelodeon.

I've found Squidward to be a descent character. Maybe I just feel bad for him for dealing with the sponge and the starfish.

It's OK, but the newer episodes are almost un-watchable.

What I can't stand is the populaity of this show. How in the world did this show become the new big thing? I mean really: i see kids at school (this is a high school remember) wearing Spongebob cloths. These are usarally the same kids who would never lower themselves to watching any cartoons otherwise. I mean, the show is okay, but I have no clue why these people love it so much.

I hate Spongebob. It has made so many people at my school brutally retarted. You really should see what they're like. I hate all the Spongebob fans but as long as they like the old Nickelodeon shows, The Angry Beavers, The Fairly Oddparents and/or Invader ZIM then I don't hate them.

No, I didn't mean that cartoons are only for kids (I hang out here, don't I?), I mean the people of my high school are the kind of people who usarally hate all cartoons in all forms. To be honest, I don't see why this show has become more popular than other cartoons. It's alright, but it certainly doesn't deserve all of this hype.

I love Spongebob. Maybe it's because he seems genuinely happy, the way everyone, or at least I, would like to be. He's naive, silly, kind, and not afraid to show his emotions. He can take something as simple as a box or a piece of paper and have fun with it, and while some may find it stupid, he doesn't care, he'll just continue having a good time. There are times when they'll make the occasional "poop" joke but if you're just looking for some simple humor, chances are you may like Spongebob.

Personally I love sci-fi/fantasy epics like LOTR and Star Wars. Anime in my opinion is realistic cartooning, (look wise :p) and plus some animes are very complex (NGE, KTMI, GITS) and not only bring humor (R1/2) but have more mature themes so you don't have to deal with raving popularity in the masses and 7 year olds going around with NGE shirts on (like you get with SB).

It isn't the most intelligent entertainment out there, but it is still find it to be funny. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of episodes that just try to hard to be funny or just plain miss the mark, like the one where Spongebob rips his pants and a joke that wasn't funny to begin with just keeps going. It may not be the most high-brow entertainment, but it is still funny and has likeable characters, which will keep me watching it.
