What other band has 3 animated video's, an entire toy line in the works, and are nominated for the first ever Mtv2 award?
As far as I know, the only one I can think of is the Gorillaz.
How many of you all like the Gorillaz? I finally got their album, and I LOVE it. I loved their video's, & now I'm in "wet-myself anticipation" for the toys. haha.
Anyway, who likes them!?!
BTW, Gorillaz Flamers, or other bashers will only be looked down uon as idiots, and shant be given any respect of a response.

I have their album, voted for them on the MTV2 award, recorded all 3 of their videos when they were on Toonami.....I LOVE GORILLAZ!

I really liked Clint Eastwood but was less than thrilled with their other videos, I probably won't but the CD. After Toonami SE though, I went out and bought Daft Punk's CD...and I looked for the Toonami soundtrack but I didn't see it, wasn't looking too hard though either...

.... and I imagine by 'bashers' and 'flamers' you mean those who don't agree they are the best thing ever, as with music opinions, we all tend to get very tribal. Don't see such warnings on film or TV threads... ;)
Anyway...
I don't have that much love for them. They are, simply, a gimmick. The music isn't half bad, that I admit (although 'Clint Eastwood' has been played to death....), however I hate the image.
While the backers of the 'group' will call them as unique and bringing something refreshing to the pop world, I see them as something easily merchandised, easy to gain public attention and bound to make many rich people VERY happy.
Again, the group will encourage the video generation. MTV, essentially, has killed the music world. Videos are something only the most well of record companies can afford to spend on making MTV, an extremely elitist market. Only the bands with the biggest backers will garner the attention of the public via MTV. Gorillaz videos require money, they are band build be moderate-to-very successful music artists. Record companies and private backers are happy to put money behind sure fire money spinners like that.
Thanks to Jamie Hewett, a unique and very talented artist responsible for such comic hits as Tank Girl, Hewligans Haircut and Sooner Or Later - being a best friend to the frontman has helped catapult the band further to fame.
Before you slap Gorillaz on the back, remember how they are affecting the music market, encouraging record companies to further their spending on expensive gimmicks and how solid music is being left behind in favour of the visual friendly band.. and how much money private investors in the band (quite often Managing Directors of building films, accountants etc) will make out of this simple and admittedly unique fianacial windfall.
But in fairness, the music ain't bad..... shame about cash in concept...

Uhmmm....NO?
I was very confident that a lot of people didn't like them, so I simply said that because I didn't want any jerks just coming up & screaming "they suck". But, anyway....
I agree on many points. I'm sure it is going to make a lot of rich people happy. And they are very easy to merchandise off of. But, hey, I like 'em.
And the MTV this is soooo true. They don't even play full videos anymore! Like, TRL only plays half of a song. Music Television my booty! More like a bunch of Sell-out posers on cable. I hate Carson with a passion. He is simply a "mirror of the times". I thought this generation was against conformity? instead, we all end up following a croud. Sheesh. MTV sucks...

My apologies, sir. Just a knee jerk reaction to the trials and tribulations of the 'Punk Music' thread. Plus I'm tired and possibly a little too grumpy to be posting. I retract what I said! :D
Down with MTV - and radio too. They plug a song until it wears out. And they wonder why no one buys singles anymore. Easy to blame Napster when the fact is that everyone is bored of the songs by the time they release. MTV can play a song over a month in advance of it's release date!! It's so stupid and kills any interest in the industry.
Unfortunately, we all have to listen to something....!

Well, if you only look for music videos on TRL then of course you're not going to see the whole thing. There are plenty of times they show whole videos, sometimes up to 4 hours of them, though its usually later at night.
MTV is in it for $, if you wanna be angry at someone go after the people who actually watch TRL.

I like how music that was new on MTV2 three months or more ago is now popular. I like the Gorillaz, but I don't see why everybody is talking about this like it's something new. It was new a half a year ago! I like Clint Eastwood to death, but now I suddenly fear a great song and video will be played to oblivion by "fans" and we will get so sick of it. Nelly Furtado's "Like a Bird" was one of the best videos on MTV2 when it first came out but now everybody is acting like that's a new song too and they are playing it to death. I hate it when good music gets over played.
Even still, I still hope Gorillaz and Daft Punk put their animated videos on DVD.
