View Full Version : Who is the Most Underused Character on The Simpsons?

They've been on for close to 15 years, have 300 episodes, and a legion of supporting characters. Unfortunately, a legion means that some may fall through the cracks as new ones are introduced. So, who do you think is the most underused character on The Simpsons?

Personally, my money's on Snowball II.

I was going to say Maude, because I always got the feeling that she wasn't as religious and goody-goody as Ned or everybody else thought. Remember that Bible sticker game Bart and Lisa played with the Flanders family? The more stickers you got, the more answers you got right? Maude had almost as few as Bart and Lisa in that game!

But she's dead, so her real story may never be realized.

These days I think that Mr. Burns is hideously underused; in fact, everything involving the Nuclear Power Plant (and Homer's REAL job) is underused. Now, any time that Burns is used, it's to make a crack about age or something generically evil. Smithers, gay. Lenny and Carl? They're just Homer's "life-long buddies" now - heck, they now hang out more at Moe's than Barney ever did when he was a drunkard!

I always thought they never used Millhouse enough. I also agree that Mr. Burns isn't used as much as he should be.

Very true. That cats been there since the begining but they've only used it when they need a quick gag.

There are several characters who I feel are underused, but my vote's for Barney Gumble since he's the one original cast member I felt never lived up to his potential. He was used fairly well during the first couple seasons, but pretty much forgotten afterwards and replaced by Moe as Homers best friend. Had hoped to see him used more after the episode where he went sober, but once again he returned to the background, only speaking when a oneliner needs to be said.

hmmm... i'd have to say Hans Moleman. He's a quick joke in an episode and then hes gone.

They should do an episode based around moleman and then do these stupidly obvious attempts to get the simpsons in the shots lol.

(prepares for a slew of soda cans to be chucked at me for the idea)

....I also like comic book guy...

Id like to see what started him on his comicbook rampage. Maybe some character childhood flashbacks (including maybe a hellraising maude hehe for you folks who dont think she was so goody-goody). because its a flashback... doesn't matter shes dead and they can find a younger-sounding maude-ish voice hehe

Cecil Terwilliger, brother to Robert Terwilliger aka Sideshow Bob.
A one-and-done cameo in "The Brother From Another Series"

Kelsey Grammer and David hyde-Pierce have great chemistry on "Frasier" and on "The Simpsons".

Wait: Brainstorming. Brilliant idea stewing..........
Papa Terwilliger!!!!!! voiced by John Mahoney (Martin Crane)

Oh, the shame of having your boys locked away after being foiled by children. Especially after putting the boys through Princeton (Cecil) & Yale (Bob), a father should expect more from his seeds. Well, Papa's seen enough. He has a reputation to maintain at the old folks home... a score to settle with his tormentor Abraham Simpson. So he springs the boys from the pen, to plot terrible revenge on Bart, Homer, & Abe.

it must obvious I'm a Frasier fan.
Sideshow Bob is my favorite character. Cecil was great too. I could only imagine that having Mr. Terwilliger would be great.

According to the Simpson's comic book, Cecil wanted to one up Bob, and wanted a nemesis of his own and chose Lisa.

Egad!

I was just thinking about *that* earlier today (as to what The Simpsons have been lacking). Interesting co-incidence with this thread.

I'll vote for Maggie. Who isn't even in some of the latter 90's episodes at all (even when the family's leaving town for somewhere---see the ep where Marge joins a country club!).

I'd like to see Judge Constance Harm return, perhaps as the love interest to Sideshow Bob. Both have the motive to do the family Simpson ill. And I can see Judge Harm abusing her power to set Bob free. Perhaps at a parole board meeting, they make eye contact.

don't shoot this idea down. They're have been stranger pairings: Agnes & Comic Book Guy.

besides, anything to bring back The Greatest Character in Springfield

I'm curious to learn why Bob has been banned from the Android's Dungeon.

Hans Moleman, Maggie, Snowball II, Millhouse, Martin, and Cecil all come to mind... but I'd have to say...

Gill. You remember him? The down on his luck salesman who just couldn't get a break? I thought he was hilarious...

I thought he was a relatively new creation - I think he debuted in either the REALTY BITES episode, or the NATURAL BORN KISSERS ep. I love Gill because he is so down on his luck and absolutely pathetic. He's like a Hans Moleman that, instead of getting killed each episode, gets fired instead. :)

It STINKS! :D
I think he had 2 appearances, the Springfield Film Festival and a cameo in the ep where Ned cracked.

How about an ep where Jay Sherman reviews the Springfield Most Wanted. He calls Sideshow Bob a second-rate second banana deserving the title of "#2" (bathroom humor). Bob, watching from a cheap motel room in Shelbyville, smashes the tv, vows terrible revenge on The Critic, and dashes to Springfield in his hot-wired AMC Gremlin (lime green or burnt orange).

cut the person some slack
enlighten us: name the ep where they refer to the uni-brow baby as Baby Gerald.

And enlighten me on who Lindsay/Lindsey Negal is. Is she the woman who keeps switching professions because she's a sexual predator? I think they revealed that little factoid in the "Simpsons Go To Brazil" episode, when they go to dispute a phone call to Rio.

Episode 4F16 The Canine Mutiny
Bart, using a credit card in the name Santos L. Halper, Buys a $1200 dog: Laddie. The dog saves baby Gerald, Finally giving a name to Maggie's enemy.

And Yes, that is Lindsay Neagle.

The Mole Man. Sorry, if that's irritating, but I have a problem with peoples names in general, let alone memorizing the minor characters names on a vaguely amusing TV show. :)
