I believe YTV plans on airing the Reboot movies in November, Cartoon Network will also be airing them but CN keeps pushing the airdates back.

Was this supposed to be the original 4th season? Did they cram it into a movie?

From what I've heard it will be a continuation of season 3. They had planned on making new ones all along. After ABC canceled Reboot, there seemed to be more money in Beasties (Beast Wars) and Action Man. But the support for the Imax Reboot showed Mainframe that is a market. And YTV has been on board all along.

What happened was Mainframe was trying to get a deal for a 13 episode 4th season but YTV and CN could only agree to fund 8. Problem is or was that YTV wanted movies and CN wanted regular episodes. So right now there are two 2 hour movies that are almost finished and when aired can either be done in the movie format or broken down into episodes.
The good thing is that if ratings are good the deal could get extended into 13 or even up to 26 episodes.

Does either of the movies have to do with the Daemon plot that was only touched upon in one episode and never expanded on?

Well since the first movie is titled "Daemon Rising" I would guess so. :p
I'm not sure about everything but one of the plots for season 4 will be rescuing the Guardian collective from Deamon, another will have to do with Dot and Enzo's father and the history of the destruction of the other half of Mainframe, yet another has to do with Megabyte, and a minor running plot thread will have to do with young Enzo and the adult Matrix.

CN announced they have the rights to the US broadcast (as they should, they helped fund season 4) they just haven't announced when it will air.

Actually, I posted it in the News a few days back. According to people at Mainframe, the show will air Fridays in November on Cartoon Network. Check out the NEWS for more.
