would you plan it out from the begining like in anime (by one script writer)

or have a bunch of writers working on diffrent independent story's at once (like most American stuff)

Maybe I'm just selfish but if I created a show nobody would touch it but me, I would write it all myself and then give it to the studio.

I would do it primarily by myself not out of greed, but because it is my 'visin' and I would rather not have to have it get hacked up. Also, sometimes writing styles get plainly obvious when you have many writers, and more often thn not that's not the best thing. Besides, I would plan on this adventure being one shot, so I won't need different writers as help for future work; once this is finished, it's finished.

I'm with Joey on this one. I think a single vision for this kind of thing would be far better.

I would write an overview for one season, before writing any episodes. I would definitely want the series to have an anime style continuity, where the characters changed and grow over the course of the series. This would include changing the character roster quite a bit.

I always found it clunky the way the same characters would always turn up and newbies were sure to be short lived/ one-shots. There are always certain characters in a show, whom you know can't possibly die. That's to restrictive and unrealistic for my tastes. Life can be very random. I'd introduce new characters and build on them and kill off other characters unexpectedly, as long as it advanced the story.

Uh, most anime productions have a BUNCH of scriptwriters. But I agree that the director that has stronger control over continuity than in Western productions...

That's one of the things that i think really helped Beast Wars. At the beginning, you would never have thought that the original 10 transformers would not have made it to the end. Making the characters' longevity not completely certain makes a show much more suspensful, as well as adding to the deepness of the show. Code of Hero was just perfect in those senses.

Oh, and in case you don't know which ep that was, it was the one when Dinobot died.

To go slightly off topic - this actually touches on something I working on at the moment. Myself and three of my friends are putting together a series of illustrated sci-fi stories, which we're going to be posting on the net.

Now, because the series was originally generated as a role-playing game which we played for about five years, each of us has contributed heavily to the creation of the series, characters etc - SOOO should all four of us have a crack at writting stories, or is it better that just one guy does all the writing, and another does all the drawings? I mean, if all four of us created it, so won't all we all know the characters equally well?

I could see how I might be "jerky" in terms of differing writing styles - but does that matter too much as long as the writing is still good?
We also have a small team of illustrators, so there won't be the same style of art all the time - but we see that as a good thing, 'cos we don't want the illustrations getting stale or 'samey' - can the same be said for a revolving team of writers..?

First of all, this sounds like a cool project and I wish you luck with it. Kudos.

As for the writing situation, I'd keep one guy as the editor. Whomever is the best writer should edit. By "best" I don't mean fastest typist or the "idea-man," I mean the guy with a head for story and a knowledge of dramatic structure. He probably reads a lot.

Of corse all of you will contribute to the story and write. But, you need to have a designated person to make sense of everyone's ideas and keep the plot moving. Just my pair of smells.

Sage words - thanks NMaxFranklin! The whole project is quite an undertaking - we're in the character/ship design stage at the moment, as well as establishing the setting's "bible", so a long way to go. Still, it's fun though!!!

I would write it myself, reason, I wouldn't want no two bit hack messing up my story! Everyone has thier own idea, and if it is my idea I want it done my way.
