Everybody knows that American Pie (2)'s main audience is 14-20 year olds... though technically only 18+ audiences *should* be seeing it. What happens is either ticket rules aren't enforced - or young teens just sneek right in. So my theory is: Teens buy tickets for films deemed "cool" (ie PG13) and sneek right into "Pie", and the other films benefit from "Pie" at the box office.

Now, if Osmosis Jones had been rated PG13 and targeted towards teens, it too would have benefited from the American Pie effect. :p

Well, the film performed dreadfully at the box office. I think the main reason was simply that WB didn't even attempt to build up any excitement around it. It's at least the fourth or fifth major-studio animated feature released in the last twelve months, and the advertising didn't make any real statement. The result is that the general public saw OJ as just another unexceptional animated movie.

Which it was anyhow, of course.
