Most of us likely remember when that EARLY Daffy cel came up for sale a couple months back (the seller knew a similar one went for about $4000 on Ebay last year, and wanted as much). Everybody went berserk, and... it didn't sell. Then again. (Top bids went to around $2900).
Wellllllll that wonderful early Clampett Daffy cel is for sale again. BUT this time the seller didn't put a reserve price on it , AND started the bidding at (get this) FIVE (*I said) 5 dollars ($5.00)!!!!!!.
It's been up for only a day and a half, and the price is already up to $1500 !!!! (Amongst the bidders are several noted dealers). When in the wide, wild of (cartoon) shorts are people going to learn NOT to bid on something they really desperately want until the very, very last minute (or final second)???

Has anyone figured out which cartoon this cell came from?

It looks like "Porky's Last Stand" to me.

Either that, or the "Daffy Doc"! Daffy is screwy!

I know it's not from Daffy Doc - he never wears a 'diaper' and holds a plate in that one. But it's definately a Clampett Daffy.

There are two types of eBay bidders: The strategic type [such as me] who bid as late as possible, and the egocentric type who feel the need to HAVE to be the high bidder for the duration of the auction, even if that means getting into a bidding war with someone else, thus driving the price sky-high. There is absolutely NO advantage to bidding early!! The only times I've ever NOT bid in the final minutes have been when I was not going to be home at auction's end.

Of course there's something to be said for people who just put their proxy bids in and don't worry about it. If everyone did that, then some of us wouldn't get outbid on everything by 50 cents less than a minute before the auction is over.

The best way to get something on eBay is "Buy It Now" where you buy the auction right then and there.

The various methods of bidding all have their merits... and their weaknesses... The "Proxy" bids really are no different from simply the old way of placing a high, high bid and hoping people aren't crazy enough to keep bidding. Trust me, THEY ARE!
The "Buy It Now" is great as long as you're dealing with a person who does not have unrealistic beliefs as to what something is REALLY worth on auction (as opposed to in a gallery etc.). I bought a DVD the other day with a mega-rare Iwerks cartoon on it for only a dollar more than the "opening bid" was. BUUUUUUT then there is this sort of person who has an original "Rhapsody Rabbit" drawing signed by Virgil Ross. This person tried auctioning it the other day (the bids started at $100 then jumped before petering out at $1425). Now they're back with it again with an opening bid of $1000, but a "Buy It Now" of $2000!!!!
