Well, here's some rather upsetting news, at least to me anyways. This comes from www.musicfromthemovies.com which later www.comingsoon.net reported from their news...

Marco Beltrami, the composer of the 'Scream' trilogy, has confirmed to Music from the Movies that he has been given one of next year's most prestigious scoring assignments: he will compose the music for Jonathan Mostow's much anticipated Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Beltrami also tells us that instead of using
material from Brad Fiedel's original Terminator scores, including the near-classic theme, his ambition is to "try all my own material". According to our sources, Hans Zimmer was originally asked to score the film but turned the project down.
Beltrami has two other high profile assignments coming up besides T3: he will score 'Mimic' and 'Blade 2' director Guillermo del Toro's 'Hellboy' (based on the popular comic book character), and a modern big screen adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure 'Treasure Island' for Steve Miner.

While I can see that it would be great to go with new material music wise, I find it an incredilby HUGE mistake not to include the Terminator theme. It's upsetting enough that Cameron, Hamilton, and Furlong didn't return, but now such an important thing has music is gonna change big time now. I wonder if Mostow or WB had even considered Fiedel in the first place. It sucks since he did it for the first 2 films. I don't know. Thought?

I'm very upset about that. I think the themes from the previous movies are a necessity for T3 to stand up to the others. I was really, really hoping to here the music from the teaser that played in T2 when Robert Patrick's T-1000 was on screen. It will not be the same without that. That theme really added to the menace of the character.

While it is regrettable that they couldn't get the original composer back, well, that's life. But for the new composer to state that he's not even going to TRY to remain true to the style of the old composer... well, in my always-humble opinion, that's inexcusable.

*sigh*

My hopes and dreams of a worthy follow-up to T2 are quickly being washed away....

I won't judge it until I see it, but I'm not optimistic.

While the original Terminator theme was great, I don't think it's necessarily a mistake to come up with an all new score. I remember in "Jurassic Park III," Don Davis used the old JP theme and gave it kind of a twist, and it just felt like a weird mutant thing. But "The Lost World" had been all new, and it was a good score. So I definitely think everyone should reserve judgement on the T3 score until we've heard it. But that goes without saying.

Also, the "Scream" score was pretty good, so I don't think we have to worry too much about this Beltrami guy.
