We all love Bruce Timm's character designs for BTAS, STAS, and BB, but what different comic-book or animation artist would YOU like to see do the designs for a new Batman series? My preferences would probably be either:
-Matt Wagner. His style complements T.V. very well. Has a definite dark and sleek look for Batman's world, yet also with a heavy dose of urban grit.
Or
-Tim Sale. Would definitely love to see sale's character designs for Batman's rouges gallery. his Poison Ivy and Scarecrow would be a hoot to see in animation.
Any ideas?

For Batman I would have to say Scott McDaniel - his run on Nightwing and Batman really made me pay attention to both books and I'm really looking forward to seeing his Superman. His style could adapt to animation very easily, IMO.

The big time Bat-artists of my youth were Neal Adams and Jim Aparo, so I'd give one of them the job of placing their version of Batman on the small screen.

I like to see an anime version of Batman. I'd like to see how Japanese artists draw the Dark Knight.

For some reason, the thought of an anime Batman doesn't sit well with me... I'm afraid of what the artists would do... if they showed a lot of restraint and taste, maybe...

I have to agree about this. If they got a Japanese artist with a good, naturalistic flair in their artwork, like Yoshiaki Kawajiri, (Ninja Scroll, Wicked City,) or Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira,) it could work. I just don't want Batman characters to end up looking like they came right out of Project A-ko or Sailormoon. It might be funny for an episode or two, any more would be bad. :bosko:

im indifferent on an anime batman, but if you were to do it, dont half do it....get a GOOD artist that happens to be an anime artist....in my opinion, getting an anime artist with a western style would pretty much defeat the purpose

Isn't the upcoming Teen Titans' show going to have an anime look to it? Maybe we will get a glimpse at an anime Batman.

Whoever drew for "Return of the Dark Knight" and "DK:2" can pass. Those were awful. I remember thinking that everyone was way overdrawn, looked doubled of their body weight, and their bodies looked like upright panthers. Sometimes, their legs and feet looked like paws. Awful!
As for anime, if they stopped with the giant eyes, super pumped-up everyone, and actually lip-sync people's mouths to what they were saying, I woudn't mind it.

Speak for yourself, I've hated them from day one. I'm beyond sick of this simplistic/boxey style it gives me migraine headaches(no joke it really does).

"Bruce Timm's work sucks. It craps on all that is Batman. who wouldn't screw the Dark knight up?"
Yeah, that would go over really well with the majority of posters on this site.

Actually, the first B:TAS style was not boxy at all. Grant it, many of the guys did come out being a bit hulking, but overall it was done well. What lost it for me was B:TNA. Now that was boxy. The men and women both were drawn way out of proportion. Catwoman and Ivy looked like the walking dead; and the Commissioner and Alfred looked like they ate some venison and were hit with wasting away disease!
I've read where Timm & company liked the TNA style because it was easier to animate. Yeah... in other words, they got lazy, the style got lazy, and it showed.

Many batman episodes are animated over in Korea on an assembly line, so they are going to spend much less time to details in the animation, unlike Japan(TMS) and Canada(Spectra Studios).

Watch anything by TMS, particularly during the TNBA episodes and RETURN OF THE JOKER. They're bordering on the anime style, and I really like it.
Either that, or I'd love to go the exact opposite direction and see Frank Miller's style.
