Wow! Like the new box. Sure that was a pretty awful movie, but it has some old sentimental feelings for me. So i'll defenantly be buying it.

What is it with you Region 1'ers and these dreadful snapper cases? You must all have done some really awful things in your past lives to be stuck with these dreadful cases!! :D
He-Man - The Movie: Faliure - they missed out on great comic potential with Skeletor - the crew should have all been shot for such an error!

hey, the movie defiantely could have been better and actually reflect the series, but i liked it anyway. it was fun, and cheesy, and it was just a fun movie to watch. i loved Lubic, the police chief. he was funny. and it was also funny when skelator's posse kicked kevin's butt and putt the truth collar on him. and it was funny when the microwave blew up. and it was funny how cortney cox aka julie worked in the chicken shack. i dont know, it was just an oddly enjoyable movie. it was very 80s. peace.

In my opinion, it was a very lazy picture lead by a dull lead and cheap effects. Title alone went to sell this flick and an insult to all those who followed a rather inspired cartoon series.
Funny, while both were made to promote a toy line, the cheap cartoon gave something more to my childhood than most films! But that's just me....
Funny how it's only John Erwin can manage to pull off the line 'By The Power Of Greyskull!' and the even harder 'I have the power!'
Amazing man.

That'd be WB inflicting all this awful dread on our country! So they don't inflict this same dread on other regions, huh? I learn something new all the time!

Seriously what'\s their problem? First the give us crapper cases and on top of that they don't listen to our demands if season sets as opposed to "best of".

Yeah, which is why I'll always call it a good movie. I don't think it's fair to say otherwise when it is so enjoyable to watch. Langella and Lundgren were perfect for the roles of Skeletor and He-Man, I like the music quite a bit, and I thought a lot of the scenes were memorable. I don't think every movie should be expected to be 4-star epics of perfection. I've always enjoyed it and I'm sure I always will.
I think in general I just like good vs evil movies and Masters of the Universe did that well. Seeing Skeletor take Castle Grayskull at the beginning was great, and the end, beginning with Skeletor's forces arriving on Earth, was great. I especially loved when He-Man was able to get to his sword, raising it over his head and shouting the familiar "I have the power." It was a moment worth waiting for, as well as the He-Man/Skeletor fight and the words that passed between them. It was well done in my opinion.

Each to their own! :)

I'm sorry, I thought both the actors were uncharismatic and lacking the appropriate characteristics. I think far more could have been done with Skeletor and I think the sheer power of He-Man was overlooked. A great pity. The cheap move to Earth was another bad move.

I don't believe every film should be 4 star quality. My two of my favourite movies are The Black Hole and Flash Gordon. Both are flawed movies but in my eyes are pure gems. However at least Flash Gordon managed to keep reasonably faithful to it's source material. MOTU suffered greatly in this area and looking back I feel ever so slightly cheated at what might have been...

Again, what happened to Greyskull? Looked more like Snake Mountain! Tiny grip I know... Skeletor's forces arriving on Earth... if only they could have kept Earth out of it! Eternia is a facinating mix of technology and magic - I know what Earth is about, I wanted to explore the concept of Eternia dudes!!

Ah, that was the bit where I cringed a great deal. Or should that be 'Cringer'ed...? ;)

Far more could have been done with the movie in general. I'm not looking at what could have been, but what was done. Skeletor's look was fine, reminiscent of the Emperor, and certainly possessing evil. He-Man's power might have been downplayed, but I think that was for the best. Giving him the kind of strength he had in the cartoon might not have translated well.
Going to Earth, and the story as a whole, could have used a whole lot more, but as it stands, I felt the movie had a lot of good versus evil elements that worked. It wasn't a good movie in the strict sense. Sure. You'll get no argument from me there. But I liked much of what it did have.

Lundgren's best work was the bionic Russian in Rocky IV.
"If he dies...he dies."
Witty.

You really do have great taste, SJJ! The Black Hole is a lovely lovely film to look at, with some wonderful design work (and a simply superb soundtrack!), and Flash Gordon is just such a great adventure flick, with inspired in Von Sydow, Blessed, and Dolton. Boy, if only I could find them on DVD...

Great movies, yes! I am really hoping Disney will do to the Black Hole what they are doing to Tron with the new special edition DVD.

I haven't seen either, so I should probably look for them. When it comes to Masters of the Universe, I'm not trying to pass it off as great or better than other films. I just like it. That's really the only defense I can give since, as others have noted, the movie elements aren't all that good. That seems contradictory, but I can't explain it. I just liked the movie. For whatever reason, I've been able to overlook its faults.

Shucks! Blush! Thanks Frozen! I too am waiting for both to be released on DVD! I was so tempted to get the NTSC widescreen version of The Black Hole a year or so ago since it's not on video in the UK in any format! I resisted the temptation!
John Barry's score for the Black Hole is excellent! I had it Napstered a while ago but have now lost it - thankfully my ex teacher has the LP from 1979! Good connections! :)
Dark Angel, if you like Masters.... you would probably like Flash and The Black Hole! While I didn't have too many fond memories of 'Masters...' I can empathise with your love of this film - I have MANY films which people can pick gigantic holes into (The Black Hole being one) which I think are amazing! Don't take my issues with MOTU as being disrespectful or snobbish - yourself, like I, have a fond love for films which really shouldn't get the respect that we offer them! :D
