Speculation: Nothing EVER lives up to hype, so I'm thinking this big announcement will be something that we all knew was going to come anyway and nothing will actually change. Kinda like how Sony promised to revolutionize the gaming industry n' stuff.

So.... my specultaion as to what the MEGATON annoucnement will be is..... Pokemon RPG for the GameCube. Complete with GBA hook up and collectable cards to use in the E-Reader.

It's a pretty cool and abitious idea and could even go online should they want to.

That's what I'm thinking it's going to be.

Imagination: Were I to use my imagination on what I would hope it would be would be......... a BIG RPG video game crossover even!

Final Quest: The Legend of Zelda Where we follow ling in some real deep Action RPG. The detail of an RPG, the action of an Action game, and the overall life simulation of Shenmue. Giganto Enix/Square/Nintendo-rama of a sprawling video game.

THAT's something that would be big.

Anyway, I hope the annoucnement's a big surprise instead of just a big let down........ "New GameCubes!!! Now in leopard print, like Old Navy pull-overs!"

I dunno... what do you think?

And when's the announcement suppose to happen? Anyone got the news bite?

Probably another overhyped thing. The best they could do is an online Pokemon game complete with a bunch of gimmicky extras (not including online play, which would be fantastic for Pokemon). The problem is, GameCube and "going online" don't mix.

I think it could be one of three things:

Another franchise game (like Zelda or Mario). No big whoop. If this was the case, it'd be Nintendo out for attention, nothing more.

A workable online system. Again, nothing to write home about.

A new system. Now that would be significant.

Street Fighter 4
A Zelda semliar to the N64 games with Online Play

Which of that was Speculation and which was an imaginative wish, Zapages?

Speculation: more Einix Square titles, like a full FF series of games, not just Crystal Chronicle; Several new online games, like Mario Kart online and/or Pokemon Online; more SEGA stuff

Imagination: Online Zelda simulation game in MMOPG format; Shenmue on GameCube; Zelda/FF crossover game of some kind

Speculation: Dragon Quest (Warrior) VIII

Imagination: Online product unveiling, big-name games (Miyamoto type games)

My Imagination was the Zelda game...

My Speculation is the Street Fighter 4 game...I heard from interview with Capcom that the will come back to 2D fighting games in 2003 to 2005... I saw this interview a couple of years ago when Street Fighter 3 Third Strike was released...

Speculation: A new Nintendo title ranging from Super Mario Blizzard (maybe not actual title and perhaps not too similar of gameplay to Sunshine), a Zelda from Capcom on Gamecube, Mario Kart, or a new "mature" title from Nintendo.

Wishful Thinking: Sega-Nintendo cross over game whether it be a fighting game or RPG.

Super Smash Brothers Online.

Animal Crossing Online.

I hope it's either one. ;) They'd be so cool with online capabilities! :)

Speculation: Nothing EVER lives up to hype
Lord of The Rings lived up to It's hype. :p

Speculation: An exclusive deal with someone like Capcom or possibly a plan to release all the Final Fantasy games that Nintendo loyalists missed out on on GameCube with updated graphics. And lastly a new Zelda game with the spaceworld graphics that everyone clamored over.

Imagination: Pokemon and Animal Crossing Online ! Use with GBA Hookup and E-Card reader. Shenmue 1 and 2 on Gamecube early next year.

A new system. Now that would be significant.

Gamecube ONLY came out last year! And Nintendo already
announced this anyway, but it's not better than a new franchise game because as history has shown they are always the top rated and most loved games in the industry.

Speculation: They bought a bunch of small no name companies that have new and unique ideas to bring to the video game industry.

Imagination:They made a new deal with a really well known company(square, capcom, sega, etc.) that will provide full exclusive rights to all of their characters for a long time.(I doubt that this one will actually happen.)

I think my imagination is a bit too wild. :D

Speculation: Dragon Warrior is exclusive to the GC.

Imagination: Fire Emblem 7 is worked by Enix Square/Nintendo, but held back from being released in America, AGAIN, due to the Emblem Saga lawsuit.

My guess would be that they're going to make a sequel to a classic game from the NES. There's been a huge wave of nostalgia recently (Shinobi, Defender, Spy Hunter, Toe Jam and Earl, and Rygar all got updates) and who better to ride that wave than Nintendo? I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a classic game "reinvented." As to what that game is...well, I'm not really sure.

I think, if this is the case, it could turn out to be really cool, but I wouldn't call it a "megaton" announcement.

Kid Icarus seems to be the big speculation if this is the case.

Speculation: Some sort of on-line thingamagiger.

Imagination: "Super RPG Wars!" :D Something along the lines of the Super Robot Wars series (stupid Japanese only gaming goodness :p) but using characters from Nintendo's library of games, their new good buddies (Sega and Capcom), and the new 800 lb. gorilla in the 3rd party developer market: Enix-Square!

The bad news, it's another Japanese exclusive series. :p

Speculation: They have inked a big deal with a big name party. Giving us "Only on Cube" games.

Imagination: A third Golden Sun on the Cube that connects to the two on GBA. This probaly won't happen seeing as how the secound one won't be over here till 2003. Or how about they remake a classic game like Chrono Trigger or something along those lines. :D

If it is an add-on to Gamecube, they better have it well planned this time. Hmmmm, maybe something for an online playing game. Or maybe it could be them saying all of the special add-ons for the new Zelda game.

Knowing Nintendo, it could be from something superb to something "Ehhh"

I'm hoping that it will be either Super Smash Bros, Animal Crossing or Mario Kart Online.

Haven't they already said Mario Kart will be online?

Maybe this'll be that rumored Sonic/Mario crossover. I dunno, I'd like SOME sort of crossover with a plot...Maybe a Kingdom Hearts-style Smash Bros. game.

Maybe the annoucement will be that the new Game Boy Player will be able to go online. Advance Wars would be a perfect game for this type of thing. Not to mention the new Mortal Combat game coming out.

Actually, now that I think about it, it might have something to do with Mario Kart. They said a few months back that they wanted to do something difficult and special for Mario Kart and said stuff like Sonic might be a playable character. This could mean something like a Super Smash Brothers in Kart form or it could mean it is going online.

Know what I wish? I wish they had a surprise for us all the time, one that we already own. Imagine if launch GCN titles had online capabilities that were hidden! Here are some good examples:

4 Play Luigi's Mansion: same mansion, but 4 luigis wearing different colored cloths would be at it at once. but there would be 4 times as many ghosts.

2 player Pikmin: 2 teams are in a fort, and u build up your pikmin aromy and try to attack the other team's fort.

4 player online SSBM : enough said

OTHER GAMES ID LIKE ONLINE
The Simpsons: Road RAge
A Metroid Prime 4 player shooter

What I think will be there is Dragon Warrior 8, Gamecube Wars, Pokemon GC, Marvel VS. DC VS. Capcom VS. SNK, Darkstalkers 4, Earthbound GC, and Sonic Adventure 3. What i hope will be there is Sonic Mega Collection 2, Nights 2, Phantasy Star episode 3, Skies of Arcadia 2, and Tekken VS. Soul Calibur.

That's probably the best guess, if that is the case. That's actually what I was thinking, too, but it could be some other stuff, like Earthbound, or something.

Anyway, I think a new Kid Icarus could be amazing. I wouldn't think 2D games could have translated well into the new 3D market, but after looking at games like Metroid Prime and Shinobi, I think they could definitely pull it off.

Also, on another note, I think if they continue to build this up as a "megaton" announcement, and then let people down, they're gonna lose some credibility among even the most diehard Nintendo fans.

Yeah, But Nintendo has pretty loyal fans. I doubt if something that small would drive them away but it sure wouldn't help in debates against PS2 and X-Box loyalists. :D

Seriously I hope this lives up to atleast a quater of it's hype.

I wasn't saying that the fans would turn away from Nintendo. Heck, Nintendo would have to do something really bad for some of their fanboys to turn away.

Anyway, I was just suggesting that, if the announcement turns out to be a let down, some of them might role their eyes the next time there's a so-called "big announcemnet" or a promise of an early release date.

You can only get let down by company hype so many times before you start to drown it out completely. Of course, it's also very possible that the announcement could live up to the hype. Let's all hope it does.

Speculation: A new Donkey Kong game to flaunt they can do it without Rare. That or a deal with Sega to make a legit Gamecube Sonic game, unlike the almost port of Adventure 2 from Dreamcast.

Imagination: Making retro games. Earthbound and Icarus seem a given.

Well, I doubt we ever hear anymore of the "Megaton announcement". I mean, have we heard anything about it since it was first mentioned in what, Famitsu? I personally don't think it's gonna happen. Hell, maybe it already did, with the Gamecube-GBA adapter, or the Capcom 5. I don't think any real significant announcements are on the way.

That being said, Shnay could be on to something with the retro update thing, though that's hardly "Megaton". Kid Icarus and Earthbound would make the most sense.

A developer partnership seems like something that could become a reality, maybe with Sega or Square-Enix. Or Konami... you know, they've been strangely quiet on the GCN front...

A real online plan would be nice, and there's been some rumblings on that matter, so that could happen...

I can't really back this up, but I have the feeling that Factor 5 is up to something BIG. We'll see...

what did Sony do that would let Nintendo sue them?

Funny thing about that is Technically there would have been onlya Nintendo Playstation, if it wasn't for Nintendo ending the partnership with Sony.

That is funny. Maybe that would be the big announcement. And they are releasing an add-on that allows you to play PS games on GC. (Saving me money on not having to buy a PS2 soon). Ok, I'm done dreaming :D .
