I saw one of these at Walgreens of all places last night. I was only picking up light items, and wasn't planning on seeing one of these mysterious magazines. It was wrapped in plastic, so I couldn't browse it, but I have heard about this publication before. For someone who doesn't really read comics or manga, is this a good choice to buy? It was only $4.95, but I still don't want to get something that will just sit on my shelf gathering dust for years.

The Atlanta Jounal-Constitution had an article about it...
> (http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/epaper/editions/today/features_d33eb0ddf016f06000ba.html) Comic relief: The U.S. edition of Shonen Jump, Japan's leading magazine devoted to manga --- or comics --- makes its debut today. Patterned after Weekly Shonen Jump, which has a circulation in Japan of some 3.4 million, the U.S. edition will be the official magazine for popular manga titles such as "Dragon Ball Z," "Yuyu Hakusho" and "Yu-Gi-Oh." One word of advice to novices: The magazine is to be read from back to front.

Yeah, it's good. Read all of it, except DBZ if you didn't watch the series on CN or get the manga before this, because you'll be left in the dust.

I would buy it since everything but DBZ starts from the begining and it's almost 300 pages for 5 bucks and everything in it is really good.

I subscribed. Its more than worth it! A good selection of comics, even if it is limited to "boy's adventure" stuff. I know what you mean about gathering dust, too. I still have two issues of Animerica Extra I've not managed to get all the way through.
But Jump is fun to read and a good value for the money. If they'd add more gag manga from the Japanese version, and I'm talking about Dr. Slump here, it'd be more my speed. But for what it is I love it so far.
Don't worry about Dragon Ball. I've only seen a few episodes of the cartoon and I was able to keep up.

I thought it was worth the money. I liked the Yu-Gi-oh, or however it's spelled. :p I didn't think I would really like it, but It was interesting. The DBZ manga was far better than that horrible dub that CN has bestowed upon us....
