Gang~
A friend of mine is asking me what this background is from... I can't place it (such is life), though I might have some guesses. It's being sold by the same guy that sold me a number or Clampett's model sheets from "It's A Grand Old Nag" and "Beany and Cecil".

It would help to know what studio it's from...but it almost looks like one of Tex Avery's travelogue cartoons. Could it possibly be "Wacky Wildlife"?

Looks more like 'Cross Country Detours' to me.

Actually, I was thinking it looks like it's from a cartoon a lot later than those two. I must be from the mid to late 40s because the backgrounds from pretty well every studio (save for Disney, maybe) started stylizing their settings a lot by that point.
Judging by the lack of REALLY intricate detail in the artwork, I would make a pretty safe guess that it's probably not WB or MGM, or even Disney. It MIGHT be from a Lantz cartoon (for some reason, "Salmon Yeggs" seemed to jump out at me). I would definitely stop at about the year 1955 for whatever cartoon it's in, tho- But the early UPA cartoons had half-decent background art a lot like that-
Does that coincide with any of your previous guesses, Tim? ;)

I'm thinking Detours too, actually. Boy, that would be a really cool piece, if that's what it's from.

It's not all that easy to tell from the smallish scan, but it seems to have more of a stylized feel to it than the more pictorial backgrounds in the Avery travelogues. Look particularly at the light green trees in the mid-distance, one in the upper right and another framed by the closer dark trees on the left. They seem to be made of horizontal strokes of solid color, lacking in detail. There's also the air-brushed look of the V-shaped ridge. I get 40's vibes from it, rather than 30's.

Welllll fellerth~
When I looked at this smallish scan I tended to think of either Johnny Johnsen working very loosely or the Lantz background artists. So I'm somewhere in between!
