We all know that Steel Battalion, the so-called "mech simulator" for the Xbox, comes with the huge price tag of $200. I was wondering, is anyone here going to buy it?
I'm really interested in it, but I just don't know...200 bucks? I don't think the price is all that ridiculous for the awesome controller they provide you with, but it's just hard for me to picture myself paying $200 for a single game.
I'm still sort of on the fence about this one. What about you guys? Anyone thinking of shelling out the cash for it?

I'll consider it if the price drops to $150. That would only be $100 for the controller, $50 for the game. According to PA, there is a guaranteed online-enabled sequal that would also use the controller, so it technically won't be for only one game. I would still be hesitant even if the price drops, though.

I wouldn't buy something the price of another system unless it's the most spectacular game on earth. My friend was seriously considering it but decided that 200 dollars is too much for a game and a controller that he can only use for that game and amybe it's sequal. It was a good idea but I doubt if it'll take off.
I'd rent it first, but will it even be available for rental ?

The Steel Battalion reminds me of Nintendo's R.O.B. or the Powerglove.
How many games are going to use this $200 hardware? That's right, only one.

For $200 I could buy an entire game cube system and game. Not to mention that Gamecube totally blows Xbox out of the water, but I'd much rather have that than a clunky piece of Microsoft hardware only usable for one game. Also this game doesn't even look great, just good.
Personally, I think this is just a desperate attempt for Microsoft (Bill Gates) to rake in a few more million dollars to compensate for poor Xbox sales. :p

By Microsoft, you mean Capcom, right?

I would also rather use the $200 to buy a GC system. xbox has let me down so much already... but maybe if the price drops I'd consider it. for now mechassault will do just fine

Im getting it Wednesday. I really dont care if it costs 200 dollars, cuz I spent 200 dollars on Samba de Amigo and it was worth every freaking penny.

Cool. Let us know what you think of it once you've spent some time with it.

Er, my brother got the game--at a 20% discount off the game since he works at Funcoland.
Let me tell you the box the set comes in is pretty heavy which is to be expected. The controller has four parts you have to put together--left port, middle port, right port, and the peddle part which is somewhat seperate from the three.
I only whached my brother play this game, but he said the controls takes some time getting used to. Also, they didn't dumb down the game's difficulty meaning if you are down for the count in this game you have to press that ememergincy escape button to restart your mission or else you game's data is erased and gone for good.

"Robot Operating Buddy"

It was released pretty early on in the life of the NES (maybe even simultaneous with launch; I remember the ads, but not when they appeared in relation to the console's debut stateside), and only two games -- Gyromite and Stack-Up -- made use of it.

R.O.B. was the little robot dude.
Oh, BTW, Samba de Amigo didnt cost 200 dollars alone, it only cost 40. I spent 160 dollars getting 2 Official Maracas though. So in total it cost 200 dollars. Also, I spent 60 bucks to import Samba v. 2000 so thats another 60 bucks. I wouldnt buy Steel Battalion if I wasnt sure that there would be more versions of the game to play, but from what I hear, there is going to be an online version, which would be total cool.
Edit: Of course, I look like a moron if two people post pics one minute before i finish my post :p

Use the controller for just one game? I doubt that very much! You could have hours of fun after Steel Batallion is over by trying to play other games, like Halo, with the monster controller. Just imagine the look on your friends' faces when you become proficient with it and try to use it in multiplayer.

I do plan on getting it but not until the price drops. Which shouldn't be too long because I doubt too many people will buy it.

I'd get it if I could split the cost with some friends.
Otherwise, no.
Here's another picture of R.O.B in the upcoming Nintendo/Sega game, F-Zero:

well, according to Adam Sessler from TechTV's Extended Play, someone's obviously buy this game as:
"Adam talks about how the "Steel Battalion" game (the mech game with the $200 controller) has just sold out, despite its staggering price tag. One store has taken to answering the phone with, "Hello. We're sold out of Steel Battalion." "
The above is taken from the Screen Savers show notes for 11/22/02 (http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/shownotes/story/0,24330,3408145,00.html)

How about you drop by ebgames.com? The thing is a "Hot Item". Someones buying it, and it should show SOME people where all the hardcore gamers go to play.

Ok, I stand corrected. I stil think that after the initial rush for it from all the hardcore gamers dies down, it will be easier to find and the price will drop.

Not a chance, even if I had an X-Box. :D
According to the guys at Penny Arcade, it's absolutely incredible, and I don't doubt that, but the price is just too steep for me. If it's selling well, then congrats to the creators, because the price is a lot to overcome and they've apparently done so.

Actually, now that I think about it, Im probably gonna get it at EB and then return it because 200 dollars is a lot of money...and since I dont have any friends, I cant get three others to spend 50 bucks with.

I mean, when you really think about it, exploiting Electronics Boutique's 10 Day Rule is really the only way to handle this, because from what Im reading about SB, its a great game that needs to be experienced, but its probably not 200 dollars needs to be experienced. So what I do is buy it at EB, return it after experiencing it, then I have the money back and I can get more games, or other stuff. Its perfect! If I were still in high school with my job, I would most certainly just outright buy this game, but Im living off of a summer salary from now until next summer, so this is the only way I can do this.

This is what I'm doing with most of the games I buy lately. They get boring so fast. I just bought MechAssault a few days ago and I'm bored with it already, so after I beat it I'm taking it back.
