It’s the absolute last place in the DCU that you want to go – or be sent, if you’re a rational, sane human being, and this spring Dan Slott and Ryan Sook are taking a look behind the walls of Arkham Asylulm with the six issue Arkham Asylum: Living Hell miniseries from DC.
“Imagine HBO's OZ set in Batman's world,” Slott said. “You're about to see the reason all of Batman's bad guys put up a fight. Arkham's one of the scariest corners of the DCU, a place you do not want to go. So what does that say about the people who choose to be there, the administrators, guards, and staff? There's always work at the post office - so why in the world would you take a job at Arkham? What kind of sick individual would do that?”
As Slott alluded, the miniseries will focus on all those inside Arkham’s walls, from the fan-favorite Bat-villians to Arkham’s little seen lifers, such as the guy on the cover of issue #1, Warren White, a.k.a., The Great White Shark.
“Warren’s a new character and one of the main ‘protagonists’ of the story,” Slott said. “He's the greatest white collar criminal in history, Gotham's answer to Enron's Ken Lay. What's he about? What's the overall story arc? I'm not telling. This mini-series is going to throw you a lot of twists, turns, and sucker punches.”
In addition to a handful of new characters such as White, Slott explained that the miniseries will also take steps to establish just who’s inside the Asylum, despite Batman only catching and depositing a villain say, every few months.

Howdy,
Pretty neat, and just a wee a bit afield from the stuff Dan Slott has been up to in Justice League Adventures (go get #11 & #13 now, if you haven't. Really). This mini will probably even wash out the horrid taste in my mouth left behind by Grant Morrison's (IMO) totally incoherent mess of a graphic novel with the same name painted by a Dave McKean utterly uninterested in doing Batman.

I am glad to see D. Slott doing more then the adventures comics. I am really going to enjoy this mini-series because it is mainly the core of what happens after Batman gets the badguy. I hope this turns out into a regular Original universe series.
Now THAT would be a good addition to Bat-Family, :p

I can name most of them...
(top to bottom, left to right)
Clayface 3, Killer Croc, no idea, Joker, Magpie, don't know, Two-Face, no clue, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Scarface and the Ventriloquist.
Anyway, this looks good. Very good.

CadaverousEyes,
Got almost everybody. (Good catch on Magpie, by the way-- considering she's only been featured in two comics. Kudos!).
Quick correction though-- that's not Clayface 3. Who IS it? And who are those "unknowns"? Heh heh. You'll just have to wait and see....
So drop by the asylum this spring/summer. There's always room for one more... (cue evil laugh) Mwa-ha-ha!

Whoo! Hey Dan, this looks like a very interesting read - I'll definitely be buying it. The reason why I got into Batman in the first place was because I loved his rogue's gallery and how well-developed each member is.
For the life of me, I can't recall who Magpie is, though - I've only heard the name, never read an issue with her in it. *THINKS* Wait, I think she was on the cover of an issue in the 80's, wasn't she?

I will definately be getting this series! Looks very very promising. As for the guy in the top left corner, my guess would be Amygdala.

I can't wait for the series.
Because Dan has write great Justice League storys and Ryan Sook is a cool drawer.
I have a Spectre comic from him with a one-panel Poison Ivy and she looks great also on the cover above.
And Killer Croc's design looks more like the new Jim Lee Croc from Batman #608

Does anybody know of other Arkham miniseries ect.? I kind of remember one where there were a bunch of inmates (not from the rogues gallery) telling their stories about how they got there or something.I was flipping through one where there was a woman who "believed" she was a rencarnation of a woman burned from a witch hunt, a black woman who killed her baby sister by smashing a bottle one her head, and others...The last page showed a man in a box all chained up, and not looking too sane. I'm guessing he was a guy working in Arkham. Help anyone? I think this came out in the mid-to late 90's.

Oh! I think I know the one you mean! That might be "Arkham Asylum: Tales of Madness" (or something to that effect) that came out during the CATACLYSM crossover. It has a strangely drawn Joker on the cover with Riddler, Ivy, and Croc (I think) in the background. Does that ring a bell?
The only other Arkham-centric series I know of is the original from the 80's...I never understood it, though I loved the artwork.

Hmmm...I think it's just a "normal" sized issue...it might be 48 pages...can't remember. I know it's not a hardcover or prestige format book, though.
