My local newspaper, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram,Star-Telegram, ran the Bugs Bunny article from last week's Wall Street Journal yesterday in their arts section. It seems this article has really gotten some well-deserved attention...I just wish the channel would find some way to change their mind about a few of those. It's up to them if they don't want "Nips the Nips" or "Rabbit Stew" on TV, but what about classics like "Frigid Hare", "Horse Hare", "Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt" or "What's cookin' Doc? There is nothing un-PC about these cartoons, and if anything they are popular-who doesn't remember 'Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt"?!. CN has even run them before!
Dumb Indians? so? what about dumb animals? many LT characters are dumb animals. Or dumb white people, Elmer or Sam would fit the bill there. And I have *NEVER* heard of "Frigid Hare" classified as even controversial...the thought never crossed my mind.

You raise a lot of good points.

It seems that any portrayal of a non-white person is considered offensive, even if the person behaves the exact same way as Elmer Fudd. If Elmer Fudd had been black, and behaved the exact same way, then he would have been banned.

But we do have Goopy Gear's great site, so I don't mind as much now as I did a week ago.

Hmm. Dog Gone South doesn't get played on CN. I have that taped from Nickeldoeon. I don't know why CN won't play it. The guy is white.

I like your new pic. As I've said before, I'm not a big fan of the post '64s. But I do like the two Bunny and Claude cartoons.

Have you ever seen the 1967 movie Bonnie and Clyde? It's one of my 10 favortie movies of all time. Fantastic film.

The sad thing about it is that they let Scooby and the gang of modern stuff get away with things banned in Looney Tunes:

Scooby dresses up like a stereotypical Chinaman in one cartoon, and goes against an Indian ghost in another (why are ghost Indians okay, but the Canyon Kiddies and Hiawatha are not?)

In a newer "What a Cartoon" (now called the "Cartoon Cartoon Show") there is a cartoon about a pizza boy who has to deliver to some Eskimos. They are about as stereotypical as you can get too, fat, dressed in parkas, ugly, live in igloos, live with polar bears, eat blubber....

I'll bet if I actually watched more Cartoon Cartoons I'd find all sorts of "banned in LT, but not here" stuff.

Who cares if the Indains are stupid, most everyone Bugs goes up against is either dumb, has an anger management problem, underestimates Bugs, or too full of himself. Bugs couldn't win otherwise (watch the Turtle and Gremlin cartoon/s).

I'm sort of surprised "TV Guide" hasn't mentioned the whole Bugs fiasco, not even in their "Cheers and Jeers" section (I'd put it in Jeers...)

P.S. My paper ran an article too, but it was only a paragraph long.

I have a feeling Warners was really just objecting to the inclusion of "Rabbit Stew" (and possibly "Nips the Nips") and CN decided to pull all 12 to be on the safe side. All the others are pretty tame in comparison.

....and Bosko and Buddy. CN thinks Bosko is racist from what they heard about him - but kids or anyone else watching might think that Bosko is an ape - I did. Buddy, on the other hand is just as great as Bosko - there is nothing bad about him. And I don't know why WB considers Buddy as "boring," He's actually pretty funny, the cartoons have exellent musical scores - what more could you ask for. I don't know about anyone on the board - but, I think Buddy is cool! And then there's this June Bugs problem. Since when are "Frigid Hare" and "What's Cookin' Doc?" controversial cartoons? Come on CN, first Bosko and Buddy, then Speedy Gonzales, and now June Bugs?????
