Did you know that Grant Morrison stated Batman could beat Galactus? Now, I can believe HE believes that, purely because his run on JLA mainly seemed to revolve around the rest of the JLA getting beaten, and then Bats saving the day, but I wonder if any of the luminaries here also believe Batman could also win...

I've gotta stop saying that...

He could probably take Galactus if he was pack'n the rest of the JLA in his utility belt.

Did Grant Morrison mention how he thought this could be done?

Sure, I can believe Batman could beat Galactus. No, really.:) Bruce surely has a huge stock-pile of weapons, vehicles and gadgets we haven't seen, which he's reserved for special occasions. He's probably planned for just about everything. Including how to take down a hero or villian he has yet to encounter, but has surely researched extensively.
Certainly, the defeat of Galactus would be no easy task. He'd need a multiple part plan, a large arsenal and a lot of luck. But, If Batman found a weakness he could exploit, he could do it.
Examples:
Batman defeats Galactus' current herald and offers himself as a replacement. Galactus has chosen many lesser people to become his herald in the past. Then Batman would have the "power cosmic" to battle Galactus with. Imagine Batman with "Siver Surfer-like powers, designed to inhance his strengths. That's a big step up from mortality anyway.
What's galactus made of? He's a machine right? Computer virus? Get into Galactus' body and blow him up Star Wars style, with a direct hit of some kind?
Use the remnants of the kryptonian technology he aquired in his encounter with Braniac to construct a phantom zone device to trap Braniac with.
I'll think of more later. :D

I think Morrison was referring to Batmans ability to come up with a way to beat him (and pretty much anyone else )with adequate planning (prep) time.
If Galactus touched down in Gotham out of nowhere Batman could not only not put up a decent fight but would be killed.

Yes---
But he needs a way to contact the Watcher, like when the FF first faced Galactus. The Watcher could send Bats to some dimension (or Watcher's house) to get some weapon to defeat Big G.

If you give him two weeks to prepare, I think Batman could beat Galactus. I really do think so.

I'm sorry but you know Galactus can (I think has) slapped around
the Surfer a few times in the comics. So even with the power cosmic I don't think he could do it.
However if he where aided by like
1. magic,
2 Advanced alien technology (though you have to wonder how effective this would be, because Big G has eaten how many worlds)
3. Or extra-dimensional stuff.

--you don't need muscle to defeat Galactus. Didn't the Fantastic Four once make the big mug puking sick by feeding him a planet made of some substance that disagreed with him? I figure Batman, with his knowledge of chemistry would be cagey enough to do something like that.

Maybe so, but as I understand it, the power cosmic enhances the abilities of the person upon which they are bestowed. So the surfer was a sufer on his planet, right? Batman is something else entirely.

Batman can beat anyone or anything. No matter how powerful or how inhuman, Batman will win. Why, because he's only a human mortal. Someone once said a person can do anything they set their mind to. Enough said.

Batman will lose. Badly.
Well, some one had to say it. The Batman-is-God fetish at DC gets real old and comments like him beating Galactus only encourage them. In truth, though, he could do it, since the FF is no more almighty than he is. He just needs the Ultimate Nullifier from the original Galactus story to do it. In and of himself, he's done for.

I have to agree that Batman is far too weak of a character to defeat Galactus. All his knolege in hand to hand combat, martial arts, detective work...well, it just won't fly if he was up to face with that force of nature. And Galactus is a force of nature, and it takes something quite supernatural to stop him. Saying Batman can stop or defeat Galactus is like claiming Batman could stop or defeat hurricanes and tornadoes. And that ain't happening anytime soon.

I think the "Batman-Is-God" mentality is very prominent indeed. I think our love and support of Batman arises from the fact that he is just a guy. Although an extrodanary person, he's just a mortal man, without the aid of anything mystical or supermatural. His motivation, the loss of loved one's is also relatable, for we have all felt the pain of loosing someone.
So, when we root for Batman, the human in a world of superhumans, the underdog; we are really rooting for ourselves, and for humanity (the "home team" as it were.) If he could do something, then theortically, so could we, if so inclined. I believe many of us consider ourselves to be Bat-men/women at heart. That, who we are is really just our alter ego, and a hero is just below the surface. Which I believe is true.
