Once upon a time, there was an undercover policeman named Tanner. He was the star of the hit video game series "Driver". In this game, we controlled Tanner as he drove various vehicles down the dangerous streets of famous cities....all in glorious third person pan view! We crashed and burned and completed missions, all while escaping the cops. To hell with the storyline, because half the time, we didn't even understand it....it was all about the driving! And to add to the excitement, we could even video tape and replay our driving and watch some great manuvering. Driver was truly a great game and Tanner was its star.

Tanner had rivals though, and they are the nameless stars of the Grand Theft Auto 1 & 2 (not counting that extra GTA: London thing). In GTA, we were free to do whatever the hell we wanted. We could destroy cars, shoot innocent citizens, and we could complete missions. GTA was a good game, but it had one fatal drawback....it was only in overhead mode. If as though we were in a helicopter VERY high in the sky, we had to watch overhead at the mischief our bastard character did. But otherwise, this was a great game....but not as great as Driver though.

That was a few years ago, let's fast forward to last year. Enter Grand Theft Auto 3! We have a new nameless hero and we essentially did everything we did in the past few GTAs.....BUT MORE. We have more weapons, more vehicles, more missions, more pedestrians, more senseless violence, more crashes, more sex, more fun! "God bless this game"...said the gamers. THE only drawback with this game was you can't video tape your progress like Driver did...but people were having to much fun to care. And the best thing about this game was, no more overhead view. We were right there amongst the violence. This game surpassed Driver totally.

But let's go back in time to the end of Driver 2. Did we not see a message at the end of the game that said "See you in 2002"? I seem to remember something like that playing. Well, it's the year 2002 right now....and its even about to end. Where is Driver 3 at? Is Infogames actually intimidated by the GTA series, or does it take really long for a masterpiece to be created.

What ever the case may be....do you think the next installment of Driver can top the greatness that is GTA?

I don't think it's fair to compare GTA to Driver, unless Driver tries to become like GTA.

That said, where is Driver 3, anyway? A PS2 version of it would be incredible to be sure.
