I need game suggestions. RPG's and action games(like Devil May Cry) take priority, but I'm also a huge 2D fighting fan. Due to financial constraints I can only get one game(I'd have more money if I wasn't so addicted to buying old games for my PS1 and Dreamcast :( ).

well, since you're getting a PS2, sell your PSX. Not like you need it, since PS2 plays all Playstation games. There, now you got a few extra bones in your wallet..

As for top games? I'd go with Kingdom Hearts. I've sooo many great things about that game..

And if you're a sports fan, get Tony Hawk 4..that game rocks.

Suikoden III should be your first buy.

Yeah, I'm definitely considering that in the action department. Funny thing is, I was one of those who laughed at the idea when I first heard about it; but after seeing it in action and hearing all the good reviews on it, it's definitely on my must buy list.

Tony Hawk 4 does look great and all, but sports games aren't really my cup o' joe if you know what I mean.

Suikoden III should be your first buy.

There's a problem here. I never got all 108 stars in Suikoden II. My cousin, who lives 2 states away, has the game( I let him borrow it after I beat it). I was sure I'd be able to get it back before Suikoden III would even be announced, but it's been 2 or 3 years since I've seen him and I'd feel I was being rude if I wrote him just to ask him for the game back. And on top of that it looks like it'll be a year and a half till I'm able to see him again (my college classes don't allow me a week off). I feel I can only play the game when I can load the saved data from S2 in it for nostalgia purposes. But I will get it eventually.

The only things you're missing by not loading S2 data would be stat boosts for about 3 characters, 2 extra plays (granted, they're the best ones) and the names you chose in S1 and S2 carrying over.

If you're in dire need of a copy of S2 in decent shape try: http://gametz.com/

As for my recommendations I'll stick with the RPG's, since I'm not much of an action game fan.

Besides Suikoden III, I'd go with:

- Kingdom Hearts -- 'nuff said.

- Wild Arms 3 -- All the fun of the first game, all the battle improvements of the second game (minus the horrific translation) and a translation by none other then Square. You just can't loose. :)

- Legaia 2: Duel Saga -- I'm playing this one intermittently between Suikoden 3 (damn Landis) and Wild Arms 3 and I'm having a blast. A much better story (though not origional) then the first one, and an expanded Arts (battle) system. It's just plain fun.

If you like 2D fighting games, then Guilty Gear X is a must have.

Dude..you're getting a freakin' XBOX, just get a PS2. Do it, cave in. You'll be so happy you have all 3 next-gen systems, if just so you don't have to go through the "Why isn't it coming to Cube/XBOX?" delemma over and over. I know, I went through it.

Cept now I got all 3 systems and I only play Cube. :p

I loved the first game in the series, but was incredibly disapointed in the 2nd mostly due to its insanely bad translation(it had the worst translation of any game I've ever played). It's good to hear the third installment fixes that. I saw it on Extended Play and it looked great. I always liked the animated feel of the games (even though the second sucked, it had some of the greatest animated cutscenes I've ever seen in a game) and it's great to see that they're using cell shading as well as some of those superb cutscenes.

The first Legaia game is tied with Tales of Eternia for my favorite battle system. I thought the story of the first one was pretty good, so if you think the new story is better then I'm pretty excited about it (especialy since its been getting only average reviews).

I've seen Guilty Gear X2 in motion and I am highly impressed. Being the kind of guy who likes to get games in order, I'll get GGX1 before GGX2. If it's anywhere near as good as GGX2 looks to be I know I'll be happy with my purchase.

Damn the PS2 and my irrational bias!!!

Geez, man, get a PS2. It beats out every system out there in areas such as RPGs, 2D fighters, and action games. Stop depriving yourself and give in to the Sony love :) .

RPGs:
-Kingdom Hearts
-Wild ARMS 3
-Suikoden III (it's still fun even without the S2 stuff)

Action Games:
-Devil May Cry
-Shinobi (you might want to look into it when it comes out)

2D Fighting:
-Guilty Gear X

That's all the must-haves I can think of at the moment.

I agree with BB. If you have an XBOX, why not a PS2? You seem to like Action and RPGs, but you don't get the system that SPECIALIZES in those genres. It just don't add up!

I doubt you'll see the games on another system unless Sony sells the series or the company. If you want your WA fix you're going to have to get a PS2.

I've decided on Wild Arms 3, and if I have enough money left over from selling my PS1 and a couple of games I'll also get Kingdom Hearts. Thanks for your suggestions :D .

You guys just ignore JC's bias towards the PS2. You'll never be able to persuade him to come over to the "dark side" no matter how many AAA games are released for the system. :p Believe me, I know...

Raven, one game you should defiantly get is ICO. Please. The world just needs more ICO fans, this game didn't get nearly as much attention as it should have gotten. It's a brilliant game and it makes people's claims of Sony being a crap-1st party developer look like a load of BS.

If you’re a fan of innovative and unique games, you should definitely make this one of the first games you purchase. With a second game on the way (thank god) hopefully this game will capture gamer’s attentions and sell a lot better than it did before.

I personally couldn't really get into Wild ARMs 3. I played the demo, own the first game, but still couldn't get into it.

I would agree with Mr. Obsession, that Legaia 2: Duel Saga is a great game to play. I too, am waiting for Suikoden III, so this is a nice game to play in between. I would choose Kingdom Hearts first for your action/RPG, unless you want to play a traditional RPG. I would also recommend Grandia II if you don't want to play an action/RPG first. It arguably has the best combat system, but you probably already own it on Dreamcast. :)

Aaaarrrgghh! I completely forgot about that game! And it was one I was really looking forward to getting as well. Too late now, I already got a used copy of WA3 and Z.O.E.(I'm loving both of them) and I just rented Guilty Gear X( this isn't right, only Capcom and the late SNK can may 2D fighters as good as this). Hmmm, I still have 26 dollars left, maybe if I can find a used copy........

I was dying to get at least two games and Kingdom Hearts and Legaia weren't wallet friendly( I will get them eventually though). I had Grandia II for the dream cast, but I sold it without even finishing it. Being a diehard fan of the original, the dark, moody atmosphere of Grandia II really ticked me off. The battle system was great n' all, but, I just couldn't play it with a good conscience.

Indeed, ignore my bias, cuz it goes all the way to the point of being obsessive.

Caving in and getting a PS2.... I dunno. I'm getting an Xbox cuz my friend is basically giving it to me.

If he gave the same deal for his PS2, three games, two controllers, DVD remote and kit for 150 bucks, I would've bought his PS2.

There's always the rationale that I just don't have the money or time for more than two systems.

I don't wanna end up like my King of Gaming friend who's got just about every system ever made(except the PS2) and because he's got such an awesome entertainment system with countless games he almost never finishes a game.

My buddy sold me his CakBox cuz he had too many systems, too many games and not enough time.

There's also the reason that for some reason there's something about PS games that really just don't finish me off. I start 'em up and get tired of 'em real quick. Wild ARMs is one of my favorite RPG's of all time, but I could hardly start the second one. Third one looks better, but... eh.... then there's my bias-ness which is there.

Again, I apologize for being irrational.

Thank God the GameCube is suddenly rockin' all over the place with a herd of awesome games coming down the pipe. Those alone are enough to bankrupt me financially and/or socially.

I should be fine and I'll attempt to keep the whining down to a minimum.....

*looks over wantingly to Wild ARMs 3...... :(*
