A few days ago I read on the BB board that there was a love-making scene in MOPT. I believe that's bull, there's no way they made a scene in which Bruce and Andrea got it on with each other. First because MOTP was not an animated porno and second because the animators knew WB would never release the movie that way.

It is bull. The post you're referring to is one by "Reliable Source", who posts news parodies.

plus..if you think about it..MOTP was a theatrical release..it had no reason to be edited at all. WB couldn't say "this is a kids movie in the kids place in the video department, we have to tone it down" when it was going to theaters. I believe the version of MOTP we saw, is it's true version. I'm sure somthing was edited out of it just to let the movie run smoother, but it wasn't forcefully edited as another movie we know was...

I remember an interview with Bruce Timm in Cinefantastique, and he said that the studio ordered exactly two cuts:

When the gravestone squashes Chuckie Sal, the sound effect is "less crunchy."

When Joker's mini-biplanes slice into Batman's shoulder, the spurt of blood "goes away quicker."

So there ya go. Damn you, "Reliable Source"....

Yeah the supposid edited love scene was indeed a joke. But that's not the first time I've heard of it. I read somewhere a lot of fans want Batman to be darker and more graphic, a la Spawn on HBO. But if you ask me, BTAS did the utmost excellent job in representing the Batman world, and I don't think an animated representation of characters needs any kind of adult content (of any kind) to be taken as a show not just for kids.

Excatly. BTAS was perfect the way it was.

In Batman: Animated, they have a section on BS&P, who were the censors for B:TAS. Some of the stuff that they showed as examples that had to be edited out make me a bit sad that they had to be done. Don't get me wrong, I know that TAS is already such an incredible achievement, but I guess I'm saying that I wish we lived in a perfect world where shows didn't have to be edited. I mean, imagine some of the cooler stuff that could have been left in there without the censors... Perhaps even beyond the more adult level of MOTP.

Yeah, apparently WB had a problem with Batman saying "I'll see you in Hell!" Darn the luck.

When did Batman say "I'll see you in Hell?"
Sorry but it's been a while since I saw any Batman eps or movies

About BTAS being perfect or not;
I think it's a matter of how you see it. If you see the show targeted towards adults and older kids, the BTAS would lack some of that "woof" you are talking about.
But since kids should have the pleasure of loving Batman and grow up to be devoted fans like us, I say that the show as it is is just PERFECT!

I think it balances beautifully on the edge...just like Batman. Not Falling into the pit:p

Batman never said I'll see you in Hell. In the original script for Perchance to Dream, Batman is supposed to tell the imaginary Mad Hatter I'll see you in Hell right before he jumps off the bell tower to his imaginary death. Instead he says then I'll see you in my? /your nightmares. It stills a great scene though.

Well when you think about it, the creators' original vision for each episode was with all the censored parts in, so it's not like they were trying to warp peoples' minds or anything by making it as risque or adult as possible. It's just that that's just how they wanted to write the show. (Does that make sense? I was having trouble trying to put that into words.)

But as you say, because it was (is) targeted to kids (even though many adults love it), they did a great job considering the age group. Paul Dini also writes that up to that point, cartoon characters couldn't so much as make a fist on TV, and that Batman was a show that changed the rules in terms of what went on the air and what simply couldn't.

BTW, Tim Drake is right about the "I'll see you in Hell!" line. The writers had originally written that line in as what Bruce was meant to say, but the censors told them they had to change it as not to offend any religious families. Same for "Oh my God..." in any episode.

Although Batman did say "Oh my God" in "Growing Pains."

"Then I'll see you in Hell!" would've made that moment in "Perchance to Dream" so much better, when you think about the scene and the interaction between Bruce and the Hatter. But that episode remains one of my all-time faves.

KWB was far more lax than Fox; you want horror, imagine the Fox censors having a go at ROTJ. The entire concept would have been killed.

I like "I'll see you in your nightmares" better; it makes a lot more sense in the context, and has a thematic resonance to it--Bruce threatening to invade the Hatter's dreams the way the Hatter has invaded his. "I'll see you in hell" is generic.

Hmmm. Another case of censorship rebounding to greater good of an episode.

Yes, at various points the creators have said that KWB was way, way more lenient than Fox was... I remember another "Oh my god" in Cold Comfort, and I'm sure the saucier Harley bits in Beware the Creeper and Mad Love.

But all that's changed now, as evidenced by Zeta.

In my opinion, "in-your-face violence" compared to "artistic violence" are two different things. Someone mentioned how HBO's Spawn was violently graphic, and it would be cool to be able to see Batman as "not-so-censored." I agree, I'd like to see that too. But on the artistic point of view, if you can show violence and still make it tasteful for people of all ages to watch, to me, that shows awesome artistic, writing, and directing ability. I think BTAS displayed that perfectly.

I could see them putting a glimpse of love-making with their silhouettes, but not a full, no-frills love scene...

I could see them in bed together talking AFTER they did the deed...(Or maybe they did do that...it's been a while since I saw it)

Unless the love scene has some important dialogue, then no, I don't believe the rumour. (Hey, people reveal important things in bed...trust me...)
