Ive been looking online for a way to play PS2 imports on my US PS2, but every mod chip (i dont care for them) i find doesnt mention if it plays import PS2 games. i dont want to play copys of games, i have no need for it. i just want to get the Hunter X Hunter PS2 game. im affraid of ordering it, and it not working on my PS2. does anyone know if the PS2 will play japanese games automatically?

Because of regional encoding a North American PS2 won't play imported Japanese games. The only console that I know of that doesn't have regional encoding is the X-Box, but considering that there aren't that many Japanese X-Box games to import...

You're basically stuck with either moding your PS2 or importing a Japanese one.

I've been trying to solve this very same problem for quite a while now. Here is what I've found out is that most PS2 mod chips currently available ONLY let you play copies. No original imports.

However, there are some new chips (called Messiah) that came out fairly recently that will let you play original imports. They have a website here: http://www.messiah2.com

That is probably your safest bet. However, I'm sure where they sell them (if you find out, let me know :p).

EDIT: Also, a great place to go if you have questions is [link removed]. You can find just about anything you want to know about mod chips there.

EDIT 2: I put back the link for the manufacturer.

Don't want to be a party pooper, but I'm gonna have to close this thread, this just isn't legal. And do the to the rules *points above* it's against the rules..blah blah blah, etc. etc. etc., yatta yatta yatta.

Now then, for the links that ohmrbill linked, please feel free to PM him--just keep the discussion off the boards..
