OK, I've just had this e-mail from a friend at work - and it works scarily well for me...

Out for Dinner MATHEMATICS

This is pretty neat how it works out.
DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST
It takes less than a minute.......
Work this out as you read.
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have dinner out. (try for more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)

3. Add 5. (for Sunday)

4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the calculator................

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1752.... If you haven't, add 1751..........

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number .

The first digit of this was your original number (I.e., how many times you want to have eat out each week.)

The next two numbers are...

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it IS!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2002) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS. IMPRESSIVE, ISN'T IT?

Work for anybody else?

Yes, yes it did. I recall something like this in highschool, and my teacher explained to us how it works, but I can't remember. Oh well, it's still pretty neat. :D

That scared the heck out of me! It turned out correct with both numbers in the end! Trippy and cool.

Didn't work for me. Maybe because, I counted in my head I got the problem wrong.

Eeeeeee!!!!!! That totally freaked me out(it worked for me). It's like when the have the magic show on TV and the magician can somehow predict what it is you're thinking.

Doesn't work if go out to eat 0 times a week :p . You just get your age.

Later.

yea I saw that one last week and ask a friend (math freak - as he calles himself) and he told me how it works. I still don't get it.

It worked and was kinda creepy but it wasn't all that impressing.

awesome...got it right. Creepy? not really. I recall a thread a ways back that explained how that works out..

Still cool! :)

If you think that trick was amazing, you should check out this thread (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?postid=198140#post198140)!

Variant #24,466,267,020 of the ultimate dumb math trick. Can't anyone come up with something more creative, instead of recycling this thing to death? It's always "THE ONLY YEAR (. . .) IT WILL EVER WORK," too. Hrm, I wonder if incrementing 1751 & 1752 would make it work for 2003? :D Nah, couldn't be...

Sorry for the sarcasm, but if I see this "trick" one more time, I'm gonna completely go off the deep-end. =x

You can prove that tricks like these work algebraically...using divisibilty rules, replacing the numbers with variables and stuff, you can see how they never fail. These types of things are just mathematical gimmicks, that's all.

Math is Power!!!

I love these Math problems :D . But I am taking Pre-Calculus right now in 11th grade. A lot more trickyer than this, GRRRRRRR, darn functions.

Hmmm, each time I tried it, I got the result:

Spazy Beatle Headed Doofus.

Guess if works for everyone else, that must be correct for me, poit.

Wow, it was DEAD on. How do they do it? I just can't figure it out.

Nor can I, and I think it would give me a headache if I tried to answer it.

Alaskanbullworm

It's all in where they say subtract from the year you were born. It doesn't matter what number you choose for the first one(it'll turn up in the answer from the math parts).

This problem only works for me when I use a calculator.

I saw this at another website. Can't remember where though.
