According to this article (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php{que}id=82792) Xbox 2 maybe release before PS3. PS3 is expected to be released in 2005.

Personally if Microsoft release the Xbox 2 so early they will be making the same mistakes Sega did with the Saturn.

Sega's mistake wasn't releasing it early, it was releasing it without telling anyone.

The next console wars are going to be more competive than the current one...

Geez, people, let me get at least one next generation system first! The current systems seem so new and they haven't even had their full potentials revealed yet.

Seems kinda pointless on why they're jumping ahead so fast. I've only had my PS2 for less than a year, and they're already making a new one? I know lots of people that are just getting X-Boxs and PS2s.

I'm personally not very rich. I went through alot of hassle to even get a PS2. Don't expect me to buy a new system so early. The consoles we have now are just being reached to their full potential. Lets try to use them before jumping ahead.

I think the console wars are cooling down, and will stay cool until there's some new technological advance. Consoles, as well as PCs have finally gotten to the point where they are starting to exceed the needs of the game designers...

The PS2 was release in 2000 so releasing the PS3 in 2005 seems right. The PSX also had a five year life span.

On the other hand the Xbox was release in 2001. If Microsoft wants to beat the PS3, they have to release Xbox 2 in 2004. This would mean the life span of the Xbox is three years.

Personally as a gamer I would very upset if I spent so much money on the Xbox and I found out that I have to spend more money on the Xbox 2 in such a short time.

Fries also attributed relative failure of Xbox in Japan so far down to cultural differences,

Before the release of the Xbox every American gamer knew that an American video console would be a tough sell to the Japanese.

You don't have to look further than the 3DO to see what happened.

It has be very poor planning on Microsoft's part not to pay special attention to Japan.

Wow, it seems like Gamecube, PS2 and X-Box just came out yesterday.

I for one probabvly will be willing to buy an X2 and or a PS3, seing as I probably will have spent a maximum of $450.00 on everything for it. While that is a lot all at once, you just gotta keep in mind that only an idiot runs out and buys a new console without waiting so see how it does i the first six months or so. Alot of people wait a few years after the initial releases to buy their systems so I mean even is you got a ps2 or an xbox now... you got if you do it smartly, at least another 3 years of use ahead of you.

the 3DO was a failure everywhere. it had some real fun quality games, but it was so horribly marketed in every corner of the earth it was doomed to fail from the start.

MS basicly used the asian launches of the xbox as a learning tool/curve. They knew they didn't have experience of how to market consoles in places like japan. now if they do it right with the X2, they will be major... major competition for the ps3.

With all this talk of the new systems, im so glad I stuck with gamecube. Nintendo said that they will be supporting it for at least 7 years before they move on to the next system, which is a really good idea. Sony is kinda rushing it, and XBOX is definaltely rushing it. Who's gunna want a new system when they just got a PS2 or XBOX? Thank you Nintendo, we'll be getting our money's worth because of you!

That will either be a great move for Nintendo or it will drive that stake through their heart, the same one that hit atari and sega, the stake of software developer. I for one would rather not loose nintendo, I haven't liked them in many years, but I still respect them for the nes and the snes (even though I was and still am a segaboy)

...I still think it's wrong that Nintendo got the Sonic series... just doesn't feel right, they aren't even using him well/at all.

I don't see how Nintendo supporting GC for 7 years will hurt it. I mean Sony is still supporting PS0. But reports came out that nintendo has begun work on a the next system, but hopefully it won't be out by 2005. GC only came the frell out last friggin year.

I hope Microsoft knows what it's doing. I mean coming out first is an obvious risk. Look at PS2, last in almost every aspect except games. And X-Box is last in that aspect now. So imagine what will happen if they come out first with the weakest technology and the third best games.

I remember when Microsoft was boasting on how inferior the PS2 was to the Xbox's superfast processor and powerful graphics card.

How things has changed.

Microsoft may end up with the short end of hardware superiority in the video console war.

I wonder if the Xbox 2 is just a Pentinum 4 and Geforce 4 graphics card slapped onto a Xbox motherboard.

that's pretty much what all the consoles are... slight name changes here and there, but they are all just computers dedicated to gaming.

Don't buy into all this speculation.

Sony says they'll release PS3 in 2005, but they're not going to. We won't see PS3 in actuality until somewhere around 2006.

And Xbox 2 may not even happen. Microsoft wants to stay ahead of the game, but first they have to catch up in the round they're currently in. I like Xbox, and I like its games, but Microsoft has never been very reliable.

And Nintendo can say that they'll support Gamecube. But when sales start to dip, they'll change their tune.

I doubt that Nintendo will go against their plans already. And if they are starting too develop a new one. We would hear news about it around the time PS3 is being released.

There's already some talk in Nintendo about their next console. I think they'll wait until gamecube has done its day, then release their new console. If I were Nintendo, I would wanna stick with the Cube for a while too. It's a good, new system, and it will last a while. The new system is going to need a good release date, and I think Nintendo is waiting for the perfect time to strike. As for PS3, it sounds great. XBOX 2 sounds pretty good, but I'm not a big "box" fan. But I'd like XBOX to stick around.
