Why do Tom and jerry Cartoons have at the ending " A Tom and Jerry Cartoon" ???

Is that for someone (possibly with some kind of disability) who wants to know what he has been watching for the past 6 minutes ?

The September 18 showing of "The Slap-Happy Lion" had " A Tom and Jerry Cartoon" at the end. Is that because the lion was named Tom (or Jerry) and the mouse was named Jerry (or Tom) ?

Actually, the print that they used, for some odd reason, had the Tom and Jerry closing card in place of the normal MGM closing card...I think this mistake was actually made during a theatrical reissue in the 50s...

I think the reason why all "Tom & Jerry" cartoons have "A Tom and Jerry Cartoon" in the end titles (actually, it's "An MGM Tom and Jerry Cartoon" but oh well...) is because, obviously, Tom and Jerry were the major stars at MGM. Therefore, it would seem too generic (to them, at least) just to stick the usual "A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Cartoon" title card at the end of the shorts. So, to pay homage to their popularity, the MGM studio gave the series its' own ending title card.

That's the best way I can explain it. Sounds reasonable to me... :)
