Well, I've updated this news section. Apparently Max Steel will air weekday mornings on Cartoon Network but at 6:00 AM and NOT in a Sony-produced block, like I had previously speculated. By Sony-produced, I ment only Sony shows airing in the block, i.e, Men In Black, Heavy Gear, etc. That doesn't mean CN won't get one, just not right away. Max Steel is crap but I wanted to see the new episodes that Mainframe Entertainment (Reboot, Beast Wars/Machines, Action Man) animated.

Anyways, back to Sony, the new head of Warner Bros. Animation (appointed in May or so) was formerly head of Sony TV animation. When he was at Sony, he and Kids' WB! had a good relationship, airing shows like MIB, Jackie Chan Adventures, Max Steel, Generation O! and Channel Umptee 3 (cancelled within weeks a few years back) on the network. Maybe this relationship will continue with Cartoon Network and maybe that is why CN picked up Max Steel, albeit, airing it in a death timeslot.

Think about it; why would CN spend money to pick up Max Steel and air it at 6:00 AM? Looks like they didn't want the show in the first place. I think they picked Steel up to strengthen their relationship with Sony so they could get shows like Heavy Gear and the new CGI Spiderman based on the upcoming movie. Of course, this is only my theory and it's not proven to be fact.

G'day :)

In relation to Heavy Gear appearing on CN, it seems that won't be the case. I just received word from a reliable source that it will be airing on KidsWB instead. I wasn't given an exact starting date but it will be airing on Saturdays @ 7:00am and again at 12, times subject to change.

I assume by times you mean central, correct? Thanks for the info!

So SONY'S the reason we had shows like Max Steel and Gen. O! In that case, I'll have to alter my rants on KWB a bit and direct them to Sony a bit more....
.....but please don't tell me that Sony is gonna force CN to start airing junk like Max Steel...oh geez, I only HOPE CN is playing along as Vince said to get better shows...

Well, I'm not sure if there's a quid pro quo going on quite like you described. Consider that Max Steel is a ratings vacuum, and the only reason it's still on the air is that Hasbro gives WB a TON of money to keep it on the air. It looks like CN got a bit savvy... take the money, but air the show in a timeslot nobody cares about. Sony may not play into this relationship at all.

I've just received another update - still no starting date but I've been given a month now... September! Yep, just around the corner! It may be that the series will air at the end of the month, but as I don't live in the US, I can't tell you! It is good to see that its finally being aired there :)

One of the animators posted up some interesting information in regards to animating the show. It's a kind of 'behind-the-scenes' look at how they put the show together, and just how difficult it was in trying to get it right for Sony.

Animation Chronicles (http://www.animationchronicles.com) has now posted up more information in regards to the show airing in the US:

"Heavy Gear, Sony's latest CGI show, will be airing in the U.S. mid September. It will be syndicated so the airing times will differ depending on the market. In Los Angeles it will be on UPN and in Seattle it will be on KidsWB. And in some cases it will be on ABC, with a total of 91% of the country."

I think you may have misunderstood me. I never actually said that my source was at KidsWB. I was informed by two people who worked on the show about it coming to the US. One stated that it was going to air on KidsWB at the times I mentioned, the other stated UPN in September. And it wasn't long after that that AnimationChronicles received the information about the cross-network distribution.

Please also understand that I do not live in the US - the information was emailed to me and I felt it was only fair to release it to the fans as I received it.

No, it's ok. It's my fault for posting it. I should've waited until we got the Kids' WB! schedules sent to us. Sorry about that.
