ROTJ- Prequel

Last night I was thinking the flashback scene in ROTJ. Do you think that scene could be expanded into an animated DTV prequel.

It starts off Batman and Batgirl are tackling a case, then in the middle of it they get word that Robin is missing. You go through the Joker's torture squence in greater length. And after the Joker's death you go into greater length of how everyone tried to get on with their lives. And even talk show Tim leaving Bruce, and what happened to make Barbara leave as well.

Just a thought. What do y'all think?

I think there's an opportunity for so many awesome animated movies that taking something we've already seen and expanding on it would be an incredible waste of animation. If you want to explore more of the Batman Beyond universe, do something with the JLU and Terry's adventures with them, and let's have a flashback scene that deals with the reason Bruce left the League (was it because he was old or was there an inciting incident between him and Superman?) Just what happened? Or let's do a movie with Riddler. He never got quite enough screen time.

Just seems to me that it would be a waste of everyone's time to just expand on a flashback scene that was meant solely as a flashback scene. I'm not sure how we'd make a movie out of having Batman looking to find Tim, Tim being tortured, and then them finding Tim as a Joker and rehabilitating him. It would be insanely drawn out.

As much as I love the flashback sequence of ROTJ (and believe me, I do), I don't think a prequel would be a good idea. I think it's perfect how it is - all the big torture sequences are only hinted at, and that's even scarier for the viewer. Who KNOWS what exactly went on then?

Now, a story showcasing what happened immediately AFTER Robin was rescued (involving his treatment by Leslie Thompkins and his eventual splitting up from Bruce) would be an interesting tale.

You do know that that flashback was the final huzzah to the style. None of the characters (except the joker, even then not really) will be seen like that again. So is the will and the word of the Timm. So it is the way. Amen.

I know Bruce Timm says it's the last hurrah for BTAS when they do the flashback, but we all know that they're going back one more time with the MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN DTV. You can't put a good property down forever. :)

ah but you see, this could be in the JL style, or even but much less likely BB. It's most likely going to be JL instead of TNBA.

I think it will be mostly the JL Batman but hey Batman is Batman he's still the same character in the animated continunity just with a different costume in B:TAS, TNBA, and JL. I have to say no on the ROTJ prequel idea, that would just ruining the whole DC Animated Continunity for me. I see Batman Beyond just as an Elseworld and bring out ROTJ will ruin continunity for TNBA, JL, and Teen Titans (If the events of ROTJ happen after JL and Teen Titans) and there's the Oracle thing I mean I wnat to see Oracle so bad in the animated continuntiy and I really think if Batman Beyond is the real future of Batman than it just ruins all of the possible DTV storylines. Anyway there are tons of ideas I would love to see before a ROTJ prequel.

There's:

- Mystery of Batwoman

- That possible Nighwting story

- The Green Arrow and Batman crossover

- And some freakin new DTV movies of Superman, Static, or the Justice League. Superman really needs a good DTV movie.

Sorry, I also think expansion on a flashback is a bad idea. (Haven't seen ROTJ yet though :rolleyes: ) I've READ about it though. (And people who anxiously await my ever-so informative posts know I read *a lot* on the web). I think Barry made a good point when he said it'd be too drawn out.

About the animation, I don't see a problem with either BTAS Batman, TNBA Batman, or JL Batman. I have a MAJOR problem with TNBA Joker (and the revamping of all the Batman villains in that season too). I really hope they'll be using BTAS or JL style in future movies.

That is, if I ever scrounge the money to buy them.

Oh God, I certainly hope not. If it's a Batman story, I figured they'd go with the Batman designs...that, of course, being either BTAS or TNBA. I hate his JL design with a passion - the muscle outlines and the ears and the chin...ugh. I have total faith that the animators will go with his better designs (BTAS, TNBA) or come up with something 100% brand new for the MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN DTV, just as they did a brand new (and excellent) Joker design created specifically for ROTJ.

I'd love it if they just made a movie about what Tim went through giving up the Robin identity and possibly becomming some other kind of costumed hero completely separate from Bruce.

Or possibly being Robin with the support of Nightwing rather than Batman...they could do this in Teen Titans as well.

As far as ROTJ is concerned, I think we should just let the characters of the animated Batman mythos rest in peace...it was really fun while it lasted, but its over.
