Good question. My guess, it's an oversight on the listing.

Take a look at the picture of the figs. Here's the pic (http://hillbilly.hayseed.net/~juliusm/JLofJM/JLAMattel1.jpg) If you notice, the bases spell out "Justice League" All the letters are present, which might not bode well for Hawkgirl. Then again, there is no space between "Justice" and "League," maybe it is on Hawkgirl's base. I would assume that since the prototype was made, Hawkgirl would be included. Guess we'll find out in a couple of months.

Um... I know that Batman is popular and all... but don't even Batfans get tired of keeping up with all the darned action figures of said character? If there were over 500 figs of Wonder Woman (and most of them being simple re-paints), you could be certain that I would not have collected them all! Heck, as a big WWfan, I don't even have crappy Toy Biz Wondie that came out at the same time as the first Batman movie.
So why do they continue to push so many Batman figures? I mean, it looks like Mattel will put out 8 more standard sized Batman figs within the next year (in addition to the others). Last time I checked, Toys'r'us still had a ton of the old ones still hanging out on the pegs.

Seven is a little much for a wave of figures -- maybe they're saving her in order to sweeten the second wave (or the JL two packs that are out in July).
Gee, how many Batman figures can a man collect? Well, it's still better than Hasbro's mistreatment.

I still don't like these sculpts or colors. As prototypes, they're nearly perfect, but Superman needs to be taller. He's stumpy. Wonder Woman looks insane. Who has legs like that!?! It's unreal. And even Batman looks stiff. MM needs a new paint job and to be slimmed down as well. I'm not pleased with most of these and probably won't pick them up unless the few remaining wrinkles are smoothed out. I don't have enough money to just go out and buy something unless it really catches my eye. These, sadly, don't. Close...but no cigar.

Are the batman fig in the animated style as well?
Also do Mattle have the rights to superman as well?

I think the figures look almost exactly like the characters but who wants statues of them? I would get the DC Direct statues if thats what I wanted.. I do want a poseable figure whose arms and legs at least are poseable and I want them in a slightly bigger scale than 4 3/4 scale. 6 in'' would be great but 5'in is good because of the old kenner/hasbro figures.. I would like a better detailed figure and Different poses than what is shown. The Flash needs to be able to run.. Green Lantern needs a snap on " power ring" force shield or capture grips or something.. Superman needs to fly and use his fists.. Batman needs a grip a batrope or hide in the shadows or fly (and sit) in the batplane.. and so on....and where are the villains? the injustice gang and even foes from the older series too, Darkseid , livewire, joker, lex, ect.. well, we shall see what mattel will do next year.. maybe they will do different scale series each year to please all the different fans of each style..

Realistically, they aren't going to make multiple sizes of the same figures. If these are 4.5 inches, then that's the way they're going to stay. Expect the villains to come along later.

Yeah, baby!
I can kind of forgive the towering J'onn J'onzz figure (he is kind of on the tall side), but Superman is still a little stubby. Still, these figures were well worth the wait -- I can't wait to see the villains assortments!
So, from the information released, we are getting the entire Justice League, plus Joker, Robin, Catwoman, Two Face, Batgirl, and Nightwing (I hope that they're animated style as well)!
ClockStomper

They're not too incompatable with the Hasbro figures, Jo'nn looks about the same scale has Hasbro Batman and the others are in scale with the shorter Hasbro figures (Alfred, Gordon, Batgirl, ect.)
I can see Flash, WW and Hawkgirl being shorter, and I guess I could tolerate Lantern being short as well, but I'll stick with my STAS Superman, the Mattel one looks like it's been squished.

Those are the Kingdom Come figures that DC Direct will be releasing in 2003. As far as JL animated figures, we should be getting something official in the next month or so, plus we may be hearing about playsets and vehicles in that time!

Yes, those are indeed DC Direct Kingdom Come figures. A buddy of mine runs a comic book store chain and was in LA over the weekend for the DC retailers convention. These were pictured in the materials given to the retailers for upcoming DC products.
They were also given a tour of the WB studios and actually got to see a scene for Bop filmed.
The cool thing was that they got a special private presentation of the upcoming Mattell JL and Batman figures and accessories. My friend said that what's coming is nothing short of amazing. He saw vehicles like the Batmobile and some of the 12" figures. He said it was all beautiful stuff.
However, the kicker is that despite Hawkgirl being produced as a prototype figure, Mattell has no plans to release her as part of the line. They see their market as 10 year old boys and don't want to try and sell two female figures in the line. The retailers suggested that they had better plan on releasing her as part of the line for collectors. Mattell did say that they would consider releasing her as a Diamond exclusive or something along those lines. I think it would be a big mistake to not release her somehow.

I don't see what the deal is with the female stuff. If she can kick butt oh yeah alot of kids no matter what gender will get her for the complete set or just because she's cool.
So will these figures come with accessories? I was hoping they'd come with more articulation. True more articulation could hurt the sculpt unless they hid it using swivel joints which would be just like the shoulder, leg, neck and waist joints just smaller. They could put them on the wrists or the ends of the gloves so the hands could move. Hasbro's even used the swivel articulation treatment to articulate a Star Wars figure's legs. They put the joints like / in the knees and then a swivel joint at the end of the boot so you could twist the shin around so the figure could sit, kneel or stand and you could turn his feet around so they'd face forward. Mattel could easily do that for the more buff figures like GL, Super-Man, Batman, etc..
The figures I think don't look too bad, they have flaws but are definitely alot better than Hasbro's, especially since it's the first shot on'em. The paint detail is great with the non-glossy fabric looking stuff and I doubt we'll be seeing neon versions anytime soon. ;)

Hey Matches!
Did your friend say - or could you ask him - whether or not the Mattel Batman line was based on the Animated style or the comic-style?
Thanks!

He said it was definitely based on the animated style. He commented on the large figures looking especially nice...Joker, in particular. He said they looked as nice as the maquettes. Considering he saw a large Joker and Mattel hasn't announced a large Joker, I'm thinking he might have seen the "two-ups" for the smaller figures. The actual large sculpts that are reduced somehow for the molds on the small figures.
He did say it was the animated Joker. He said they were gorgeous...and he's not even interested in figures. It's too bad that photos weren't allowed.

No problem. I only wish I had been present so I could give a firsthand account of the stuff rather than second.
One other thing that comes to mind is...that the Batmobile actually comes apart somewhat to allow Batman and Robin to be on individual Batcycles that are somehow part of the car. Odd. He said it was cool, though. I can't picture either of the animated Batmobiles' designs allowing for this. I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

Heya Matches, thanks for all the info, be it first or second hand! My only concern lies with the Justice League figures, namely Superman and Wonder Woman, who are both in need of tweaking....some serious tweaking. Is Mattel planning on, or have they already altered the figures from the photos we've seen? Will Supes stay stumpy? Is Wonder Woman going to remain an emaciated skeleton? Let us know ;)

Sorry, I can't help you on these questions. If I had seen things firsthand, I might be able to. I do know that what was seen were prototypes. Probably the same prototypes that we've been seeing in the photos that are showing up across the net. Packaging was shown for the toys but had photos of the figures in place of actual samples.

So is it still possible that the figures we've seen on the interconnecting J-u-s-t-i-c-e-L-e-a-g-u-e stands (see pics) are subject to change or modification...?

I suppose anything is possible but I'm in no position to know or say either way. Here's hoping. I'd love to see some tweaking as well.
...and I hope Mattel comes to their senses and decides to release Hawkgirl as a regular part of the line.

He didn't see any JL playsets but did say that there were three for the Batman line...I'll explain what he saw in a second but need to clear something up...
I quizzed him more about the Batmobile and he said that it's a totally new design that is from the comics based on several artists' interpretations. ???? So, I asked him more about the figures and whether they are based on the animated designs or the comics. Once he looked at the animated Joker design again he decided that the Joker figure looked more like a Brian Bolland type Joker. SO, this leads me to believe that the Batman line is based on the comics and NOT the animated series. Sorry to be so sure it was based on the animated designs before. It appears he may have been wrong about it being an animated toy line. Sorry, this is disappointing to me. We might be getting a toy line based on the comics. He described the Batman figures as looking sort of like how Jim Lee is currently drawing him. Again, I'm really sorry that I may have messed up in saying it was an animated series line. He thought so until we started talking more about specifics. He's not really into Batman too much and is less familiar with comics vs. animated designs for the characters.
On to the playsets...he did say that he saw a batcave of some sort. He also saw some sort of Two Face/bank playset that featured a falling giant penny. He couldn't remember what the third one was, however.

Oh, don't be sorry! Personally, I was hoping for a comics-based line. If this turns out to be a 4-3/4" comics-based line, I am one happy camper!

Well, we're talking about the same thing...but it's not from Diamond. The only Diamond info on Julius' site was the JL solicitation.
The Batman assortment information, along with the longer JL information, that Julius posted was - most likely - a retail buyers solicitation sheet. That's not from Diamond.
Jiminy, I can't wait for Toy Fair to roll around and Mattel to officially announce all this stuff! The suspence is killing me!

*wonders if they will ever make a 'the flash' figure night light.....
*would buy it too...... LOL*
Then again, plugging it into the wall would probably cause severe electric surge...and there goes all appliances in the house and probably the surrounding neighboorhood...dog gone it flash....:P

I think the figures look great but does anyone know if they'll get more articulation? Elbows and knees would be plenty. I also hope the capes are very bendable so you can get good playability. My two sons are going to love these. The articulation really does need to be addresed though - I hope mattel is listening to fan feedback.

Neck, shoulders, and hips are probably all we'll see on these. Hasbro sold millions of animated figures with this limited articulation. Mattel probably won't "up the ante" if they don't have to. However, there will be 12" figures coming out later in 2003 that are sure to have more articulation.
As for the capes, who knows?
