View Full Version : Richard Harris R.I.P.
I've just seen it reported on BBC News 24 that Richard Harris has died in University London Hospital. Details are sketchy just now I'm sure we'll hear more in due course. His most recent role was Dumbledore in the 'Harry Potter' movies.

Truly sad. :(
Chris Columbus had said (before his death) that if Richard Harris wasn't well enough to film Prisoner of Azkaban, that his stand in that they used for the first 2 films would take over the role of Dumbledore for the third film. I guess they have a very strong resemblence.
I was listening to the radio when they annoucned it, and I just got goosebumps all up and down my body.
Wow.

According to MSNBC.com, Richard Harris had Hodgkin's disease, which is a type of cancer that infects the lymph nodes. It is such a shame that he died because I am just getting into his work. I like his acting so much... The Harry Potter movies won't be the same without him.

My mom just came in and told me, so I guessed right when I figured a thread for this would be up already. I'm quite devastated. I was first introduced to Mr.Harris when I saw Camelot as a kid, and lastly with him as my beloved Harry Potter character, Dumbledore. There is no one that could replace him in that role, no one, and I feel sorry for whoever has to do that. Wow, my mood level has just majorly dropped in the last moment or two now. I knew he was never in that great of health as of late, but I didn't expect something like this. Rest in peace Mr.Harris, you'll be very deeply missed.

Wow, not to make this too personal, but it seems that everyone is losing someone these days. I bet they're all having a big party in the afterlife right now. :)

Augh, all I can think now is the second HP film. I was so excited to see it, and I know I'll love it...but I so think I'll start balling the moment Richard Harris appears on screen. *sniffle* And he was doing that role for his grandkids too....

Damn... it may be too late already, but it'd be a nice gesture from WB to put a small memorial before Chamber of Secrets when it premiers. Richard Harris, rest in peace.

That's an awesome idea Reef, I wish they could do it. Wouldn't be too hard to just add a little bit to the ending credits, except if the film's already been copied and shipped out to all the theaters already. Has England had their big premiere yet? If it could be done I would think they'd at least have something like that. He really desrves it.

This is so sad...I don't think I've ever cried before when someone who was in the news died, but I did this time. He was such a great actor in everything he did. He will be truly missed. :(

I think our premiere will conicide with the US release, or at the most be a few days before. As horrible as it sounds, at least they finished the film, so he has one final complete swansong. Poor Oliver Reed died halfway through filming of Gladiator as I'm sure you all recall, and while the CGI sew the film together.
It's also a shame Mr Harris will never get to see the fruits of his work in it's full entireity. I don't believe it's had any test screening yet has it?

Ah!
I was so sad when I heard the Richard Harris died! How can they replace Dumbledoor?! He was awesome at that role. I did hear though that his body double is going to get the role (95%).
Just thought I'd share

Yeah, that sucked. He was a great actor, but...what in the name of Jesus H. Christ is "Dumbledoor"?

:( This made me so upset and sad when I heard the news. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the first movie and beyond without feeling weird... I'll miss you, Richard Harris.
