Final Fantasy 11 query...

I'm terribly out of the know on this, so I figured this is the best place I could go for some answers. I heard that FFXI will only be available over the internet (or something). Now, I certainly hope that isn't true, so could anyone set me straight on this?

"Final Fantasy 11" is an online-only game. According to Game Informer magazine, it might not even come out in North America due to the differences between the US and Japanese networks. Still, if you want a "traditional" game, there are the two sequels to "Final Fantasy X" and a game for the Gamecube coming soon.

TWO sequels to FFX? Cool. I'll most likely get those - but why FFXI is an online-ONLY game is beyond me. I can understand wanting to adapt the game for multi-player mode (or something), but restricting it to playing in just that style is a poor decision, in my opinion. That means the casual gamer like myself can't really play it. :(
