View Full Version : Batman: The Animated Newsletter...dead?

Hey, sorry to everyone that's been expecting this to be delivered over the past month, but you wouldn't believe how busy I've been. The newsletter is NOT dead, but I just don't have the energy to deliver it. Yes, writing it is a breeze, but delivering it is another story.

With nearly 2600 subscribers, I have to deliver the newsletter in 95-address batches and it takes forever. Does anyone here know of anywhere I can get a better program so I can deliver the entire thing all at once? If anyone can hook me up with any info I'll be very, very greatful. :)

Thanks!

Heya Tim. Sorry man, but I'm rather illiterate when it comes to these things, though I'd really like to help. Speaking of which, I've been trying to PM you about those JLA reviews for some time now. PM me or email me, if you can. Thanks ;)

It better not die, or you will! :p Anyhoo, you've done so much with that newsletter, but real life is obviously going to take precendence. If there's anyway I can help, either in putting articles together, sending off a certain amount of the newsletters, whatever, just poke/PM me!

Awww guys, thanks for the offering to help - I'll definately come to you when I can think of something. (BTW, hey M'ral, you owe me some new trivia questions!)

So does anyone here know of a good e-mail delivery program I could use? Heck, I'm willing to pay for it, even. Yes. Pay for it. With real money. Now, we all know that money talks, so there must be something out there that someone here knows of.

I know that sentence is grammatically terrible, but hey, it gets the point across.

Try, hotmail it's free.

TimTwoFace
10-23-2002, 07:51 PM
I know Hotmail is free, but doesn't that also mean you have limits on the amount of ingoing and outgoing mail? I haven't used a free-e-mail provider in years so I honestly don't know if Hotmail, Yahoo, and all the others have changed their policies.

Yes, there is a limit, let me check.......

about 200 e-mails I think. Don't tell me you have that many friends.

Barb Gordon

You bet he does! Do you have any idea how many people the newsletter goes out? Certainly a heck of a lot more then 200.

I never seem to get it?? :( Besides I don't want to start a fight, but people on the boards whom you never met, don't count as friends, they count as pals.

Barb Gordon
10-23-2002, 09:38 PM
nah, more like associates. At least when it comes to a newsletter I would think, can't imagine knowing all those people even semi-well. And if you want to get it, you have to suscribe! Just PM Tim about it. And check out the Batman: The Animated Newsletter archives for the all the old issues, it's right here at Toonzone.

Do you, Barb and Tim want me of the boards or something? I have a slight impression that you guys don't like me. Speak up now or forever hold your peace.

Barb Gordon
10-23-2002, 10:53 PM
Not at all! I'm sorry if you got that impression at all from me or anyone else because I don't think any of us want you to go. You're quite an unfamiliar poster to me, in fact I think today is about the first time around. Sometimes posts come off harsh or sarcastic when they were meant to be the other way around, that's the drawback of communicating by written word as opposed to spoken.

Hey Adoptedbatpuppy, what's up with these ideas Barb and I hate ya? Of course we don't. In fact, I haven't seen you around the boards much until lately, so we just don't know you. Don't go out there thinking we're hating you (and I can't figure out why) - cuz we don't. *HIGH FIVE* See?

And as for YOU, Barb...thanks for the shameless plug for the newsletter. :) You should be a telemarketer or something with those skills.

Either one of you keep on deleteng my posts. That's why.

Barb Gordon

We can pull this discussion into more private areas by way of PM. But I for one haven't deleted a single one of your posts, and I don't think Tim has either. There are a handful of mods on this particular board and one of the others could have done it, not just Tim or I. And hey Tim, I just tell it like it is, the newsletter rocks!

Hey Tim, have you considered Yahoo! Groups (http://groups.yahoo.com/)? It's just a suggestion that may or may not work. Figured I'd toss the idea your way.

I haven't deleted any posts in this thread and don't intend to.

Now, back on topic, Batman: The Animated Newsletter is on indefinite hiatus until my personal life shapes up. End of story.

Okay, back on topic. Do you need any help? or is Barb going to pull you out of indefinite hiatus, regarding Batman Animated Newsletter.

Barb Gordon
10-25-2002, 09:42 PM
I think Tim has really put it on indefinite hiatus for now. Even with me and others helping him wouldn't make keeping it up and running at this particular point in time. Real life issues always take precendent over anything, or so I would hope. Hope everything brightens up for you Tim.

Squidward has a good idea, Tim. You could use a mailing list instead of individual mail. Yahoo Groups will let you set it up so that you're the only one who sends mail, so you won't have to worry about anyone using the list to spam people.

Other than a mailing list, I can't think of anything else that would work. Most email providers have a cap on how many names can be on one specific email -- so getting a new email won't really cut down on how many emails you'll send. I think the mailing list would work. And if you opt to pay Yahoo Groups for instance, your subscribers won't even have to see the ugly ads in the posts! :D

Wow, I didn't know Yahoo did that! Would have helped me in a few instances a while back, lol. Looks like that's going to be your best option so far Tim, hopefully it doesn't cost too much.

Squidward (and Bleu)...OK, I sorta got out of my little funk and maybe I'll go take a look. Does anyone know how many e-mails I can send at a time? If it's more than 95 (which is what my ISP lets me do) then it's all good. :)

-Tim
(So very hopeful. Knock on wood.)

After you subscribe all of the email addresses that you have on the list (you'd invite them, they reply to the email and then they are on the "list") you would only need to send one email, and the list would do the rest. Yahoo Groups, while technically a message board system, is also a listserv (yes I spelled the right) and functions as either a mail group (where people send email to an address and everyone in the group gets it and they hold "conversations" via email), or a mail list, as I already described, whereby you, Timmy, would be the only one capable of sending mail and it would go to everyone.

<pants> If you've got any more questions, check out YahooGroups (http://groups.yahoo.com) or talk to me on AIM.

Hmmm...my only issue with that is that it would take 2600 e-mails to get that all set up. If I could just cut and paste my entire list, that would be awesome.

Thanks for the help, Bleu. I'm gonna go look into this now. *HUGGLES*

No it won't. And you don't write the email. It's a function of the list -- click on Invite, then paste in the email addresses (up to 200 I think per invite), then send it off and repeat as necessary. Pretty simple really.

Good luck sorting what you have to sort.. a nasty feeling to have and I hope it gets, erm, sorted. :)

I'll miss not seeing that letter pop into my inbox - actually, i must sort some redirection as that account is barely ever used.... *muses..*
